I just found out about this game today by mere chance. I stumbled across some of the trailer and after leaving that long rant on someone video yesterday about total war I am very happy I found this game. It's got the bones of the things i want. Now i just wish they open it to modders and give them tools to make great in game features. This is what cities skylines 1 did very well and it increased the dedicated player base in leaps and bounds and left us with a really commited community I only ask for the zoom in and zoom out feature like manor lords. Being able to see the whole world, like a big map with all the continent's and being able to zoom from that all the way down to an individual building or npc in a city. I would love to see something like this... please. Naval warfare combat like TW Napoleon. Exploration and discovery of new lands - essentially experiencing sending scouting ships on sail and then discovering the americas for example or sailing to the cape of good hope... would be sooooo cool. If you have all the mechanics there i will buy this game and spend 1000s of hrs on it.
I found out about it when I saw the disappointing Civ VII gameplay reveal where they talked about how it's made for cross-platform multiplayer in mind for the Switch and how there's a limit on the number of settlements and how there are only 3 eras and every player and AI catches up to you at the beginning of each new era so that no one's left behind, how you'll have to switch to different civilizations midgame and how they oversimplified all of the mechanics doing away with micromanagement to not overwhelm casual mobile gamers who are new to the series instead of catering to their fanbase. It also looks just like Civ VI graphically. I was so sad about all those changes that I looked for alternative 4X games of 2024 and when I saw this my jaw dropped - this is exactly what I wished Civ VII would have been! I instantly preordered it and can't wait
Great video! I'm glad that a developer talks about the challenges of 4x AI. I'm no computer programmer or software engineer but I understand enough about the field that programming something as a grand strategy 4x AI must be one of the toughest things, but too many gamers think it's just a matter of throwing more code at the problem. ARA sounds very promising and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the technical alpha invitation!
As a singleplayer, dynamic AI is VERY important to the game experience. I wonder if the extra AI computing effort to generate the promised long term planning that works alongside short term implementation will result in a requirement for users to have top computer speed and max computer memory?
As I understood it, since they have simultaneous turns, the AI basically already starts doing their thing at the same time with you. That means it typically has more time to work while the player also thinks through his turn, instead of having to wait for the player to end their turn and passing the control over to the AI, like in Civ or most other turn based 4X titles. So hopefully this will mean there's not this massively long wait time in between turns like we're used to from those titles.
Just one thing I need to know and you don't say anything about it: will they send their units one by one to be slaughtered? Thank you in advance for answer. I really need to know that.
Does AI have cheats or not? Civilization VI grants +80% yields to the deity AI, making it somewhat difficult to build early-game wonders. Can I enjoy early-game wonders in ARA?
What I was wondering too. Does it cheat? And if not, how do you make it smart enough? I think most people are ok with bonuses at higher difficulties, but it shouldn’t have informational advantages like seeing through fog of war or resources before they’re discovered.
@@CallmeKach An AI in a 4x will never (at least for a really long time in technology) be able to compete wiith a player at a high level. I expect far less cheating, especially blatant cheating like in civ, but with current technology if an AI doesn't cheat, it won't be difficult for good players.
Yeah that does sound like a cheap excuse for bad AI decisions. Either this, or the AI is good and then ruins their game by breaking immersion "for the lolz". The rest of the video sounds promising though.
Is the AI playing to win above all else or does it "play pretend" at being a nation a bit to? IE: If I'm in the lead, will my allies deciare war to stop me from winning even if we're "best buddies"? It makes sense if the only thing you care about is "to win". Since me winning, means you can't (most of the time), but no IRL allied nation would go to war because your nation is doing great
