Thank you Boudy, an exceptionally insightful reaction to an exceptionally courageous band! Yes, they have had to endure more harassment and abuse (including physical assaults) than anyone should ever have to go through, especially tiny young teenage girls. But they fought through it all, and have emerged with great strength, as they not only play metal/rock music, but all their original songs contain sharp, pointed social critiques. They have toured Europe twice (and played Wacken) and have recently completed their first US tour. They are an inspiration to all people, from all walks of life, and are changing the face of rock/metal!
Hello from Germany! I think it's one of the best covers of this song (maybe even better than the original). And VOB plays it with three people, while Metallica is a four-piece band. Nevertheless, the sound is very full. Simply impressive! And yes, you are right - heavy metal is not the kind of music a hijab wearing Muslim is expected to play. Therefor these three young ladies received very bad reactions, like throwing stones at them and even threatened their lives. So you can imagine how brave they are. All this struggle with religion they made a song for: 'God allow me (please) to play music'. When I heard it for the first time I had tears in my eyes and goosebumps allover! You really should check it out (original video). It is so touching and who else than you would understand and feel what that songs means for VOB!
They got their deal in the States after Tom Morello from RATM saw them somewhere. He took them here and got them signed. I'm not sure how much has been feels added yet but they do have several videos up, and quite a few live songs.

One of my favorite things about this band is the fact that after they were told to not play music, much less, metal music, they cover Rage "Killing in the name of" and shout the lyrics, "FUCK YOU. I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME."
I love them and it's sad they have to go through this still in this day and time. They play for non-muslin people also people quite a bit and they get mad respect; I've watched several interviews. They just played where I live in Detroit, Mi. They are brave, they are bold, and Indonesia loves Metal and the world of all religions and colors love this band as well. I am a huge fan! I'm so glad you got to hear one of my favourite bands now. They've got both amazing covers and wonderful originals, and have toured both Europe and the US now. They will be opening for The Hu for their US tour very soon. What I love about them is that they seem to have brought back a sense of 'punk', which has been all but dead since about 1986. You definitely need to check out more of them 🙂

My first Metallica concert there was almost no one there. Thirty foot from the stage you could have swung a bat and not hit anyone. Now years latter they are covered by all kinds of musicians all over the world. Its just amazing. These Women are doing a great job.

im Indonesian Muslim and we Indonesian Muslim are okay with this actually, as long as the song are appropriate.Hijabi muslim being a singer is normal in Indonesia but hijabi muslim being a metal singer that was unusual they become the first, since usually it is Muslim women who are not wearing hijab that become metal singers. So again we don't see music as "haram", Music in Indonesia is also considered a way for preaching Muslim teaching in Indonesia.
Female rock singers are common in Indonesia especially the trend in 90s but they're like soloist, mostly just rock band with female singer but full female rock band is not common, especially since VOB is hijabi rock group probably they're first one. A lot of female singers don't wear hijab in Indonesia and some hijabi singers tend to sing pop or rnb music.

we are Muslims in Indonesia and music is legal and some people forbid it.... of course they have to face a lot of blasphemy... but I think it's unfair that in my country there are a lot of female singers who wear the hijab, they sing pop music and it seems like it's okay, but why are there so many? Is the criticism aimed at VOB because of metal music?... I think all music is the same instrument...
I commend these ladies for their sound. I need to explore them more. Religion shouldn't be about what happens when you die, but how you expressed life. The gals here express life.

I've become very big into Asian music for quite time, from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Mongolia, China, Siberia and Thailand and now I have to add Indonesia to the list. My only question is that do they come under fire from the more strict imams or mullahs in Indonesia ? Are they Sunni or Shia ? And your comment about your aunt is probably so true. Indonesia is not Islamic country. Indonesia is not like Iran or Afghanistan for example. Indonesia is a very diverse country. You will easily finds oriental, black, white or mixed people. Also finds Moslem, Christian, Jews, Atheist, and so on.
Their religion and Hijab should not have any bearing on what they have accomplished thus far! They are still devout Muslims and have great love for their customs and religious concepts, at the same time they love what they are doing and that is bringing happiness to their fans all over the world. Thier debut album Retas is a phenomenal one, very powerful and aggressive Frida Guitarist and vocalist is an amazing poet, and her lyrics are very impressive, Widi on bass is among the greats, Siti on drums is also another one who is phenomenal. VOB stands for Voice of Baceprot (Noisy). Unfortunately, every reactor always does what is more popular I am personally sick of this song and never liked it, for me this was beginning of the downfall of Metallica stooping to the level of mainstream media garbage. Agree with you there. While they do good covers, I personally like their originals way better. Honestly I'm a bit bummed that not all their originals included in Retas album, such as Kentut Merdeka, and others.
Voice of Baceprot is just... WOW. The first song I heard was "God Allow Me (Please) to Play Music". Quite a lot of their stuff is protest music against the Mutawa (religious police) and the government.
It was 2021..their performance makes Indonesia musician and people shocked and speechless..how they can doing live in Europe because that was covid era..I think they the only indonesia musician perform at that time..
