It is amazing how much thought has to go into herd management . Now when I look at horses grazing in a field I am wondering things like, I wonder what the sugar content is in that grass? Should they out there grazing at this time of the day? Are they all getting along, is anyone being bullied? Thank you CC for opening our eyes to such issues.
Lol. Me too. A while back, all I worried about, seeing horses in a field, was "do they have enough water, shade, feed and shelter?" Now if I see a horse standing off all by itself...I just added a new worry or five...
And when I see a horse close-up, the first thing I look at is his feet. I had no idea horse pedicures were as expensive and as important as human pedicures
Its not always that complicated; our horses are on grass 24/7 all year around and they're just all in one pasture. They settle their differences and figure it out just fine
I only owned ponies and horses one at a time when i was much younger, i had no idea that herd dynamics were so complicated. Really enjoying learning all this stuff.
My uncle was a farrier in the Sacramento valley california, where I live. He was a true cowboy and he taught me to ride. I'm Too old to ride now. I respect your ways and wisdom and have learned tons about animals and particularly horses from you. Much respect. I found you and subscribed a couple months ago. I've been taking care of my 93 year old mother on hospice for 11 months and you've helped my mental health by letting me join your herd!! Thank you and God Bless.
I really hope he can stay as he is so well cared here.! Older horses are not the best candidates as they might develop symptoms that owners don't want to deal with. Thus, they finish in a killer pen.!
If you install a charged battery and it drains down quickly, then recharge it but disconnect the battery cable and install a multimeter in series to measure the leakage amps. It should be only a few hundredths of an amp. If more, then start pulling individual fuses to isolate which circuit (and which item like radio, window motor, etc.) is draining your battery. When you pull a fuse and the leakage current drops way down, you know you have found the problem. Once you identify the offending circuit, you can ignore all the other ones and avoid doing a lot of unnecessary testing, or worst case, trying to randomly replace perfectly good parts looking for the problem. It can also be something wrong in the wiring, which you can also check. Good luck, CC!
Love Prim's nod as a yes to you! Great job on switching up your herds. Warms my heart every time you talk about them having friends, mental wellbeing is so important. ❤
You have the life I dreamed of as a little girl. Our old house had one acre and I thought it was big enough for a horse. I was 7 years old and would keep it in my room.
One day, while trying to convince my mom to let me get a horse for the umpteenth time, she asked me where we would keep it. Being a logical 7 year old I told her it could stay in the bathtub, since we lived in an apartment. As serious as was I could tell she was having difficulty containing her mirth. 😂 You’ve got to love the 7 year old mind.
Hello from country Australia. Am a big fan of your channel even though I only ever rode friends’ horses as a girl (not well) I always appreciated their beings and beauty. Its a vicarious joy watching all of your lovely horses but have to admit a soft spot for the very dapper and gentle Ziggy 🩵
I watched the post of Goose's his previous name on the registry/ancestry paper. S.O.B said enough of how fractured he became in 6yrs and to lie about his age, such a disgrace. His journey with you was remarkable and what a change through your empathy, patience and knowledge. I wondered just how many people out there who are NOT trained and equipped (not to mention love and passion) to handle horses. Many, not all, seem to be on the bandwagon to exploit, abuse horses for monetary and self enrichment. Goose is definately a prime example being the tip of the ice berg of what's going on out there in this wicked world. Good job. Love the work you do its so inspiring for many.❤🐎
Thistle has some medicinal properties, one of them is that it helps the liver detox, it's even used fro humans in some poisoning cases in hospitals and anti poison centers (of course at a very different dose than just eating a few flowers for a horse) so it might be that Goose is eating them for their properties and not just as a snack .
My old Standardbred, handsome horse who hated being raced, was left alone in a huge pasture with other livestock. It took me two weeks to catch him. I rode him back to his barn and then I was allowed to buy him. He was a nice horse, and he loved thistle. I had a lot thistle in the field and I would watch him devour the spiky plants with great pleasure. Eventually he rid the field of thistle. My horses were very careful of a new plant and I never worried that they would eat something they should not eat. But then they were never so hungry that they might do that.
It's wonderful to see Goose fitting in with the other boys. Former bully or not, the poor boy looked real sad when he was pushed out from the first herd. I hope he can remain a non-bully because if he starts picking on Ziggy I'll have some words for him 😂 I have faith in him, though!
Great call CC. That has to have been the most laid back introduction I’ve seen. I really hope they continue to get along and are very content together.
It's great to see the horses all getting along in their new arrangements! I hope it stayed as calm and non-confrontational when the camera was off. They're such beautiful creatures, who all seem so healthy and happy. It's a pleasure to see how much you care about them.
Oh, you must save that cute SAAB as Tiny clearly has decided that it is GOOD. Parasitic battery drain is a known problem on older SAABs, and it is not too hard to diagnose (for a while, my problem was that the glovebox lamp was permanently on, but I have also heard about the stereo-amp not shutting down etc as they are full of 'tronics). If someone has a simple amp-meter you can pull one and one fuse out, wait for a moment and see if the parasitic draw falls to get an idea of where the problem may lie. AND - these "group therapy sessions" are super fascinating. Best from Norway
Great to see Prim and Frisco Bill briefly today…I think primrose is such a beautiful girl! I’m so glad that Goose was accepted into the dry lot herd without any drama so far. Stewie and Whiplash are such lover boys towards you, you’re a good mama… They’re both very handsome!
I love learning about Goose, he is such a particular personality and he has such obstacles from his past life. I hope he gets along with the new herd. I would love to see him become best buddies with Ziggy 🥰
Can't you imagine the conversation from the "veterans" in the herd to the newbe, "Boy! are you lucky to get in here...this lady is the best, we get new shoes regularly, it's always great food, lots of fun in the chores and a lot of fun trips, no worries, Mate! You're gonna love it all!! " 🐴👀👌 ❤❤❤
I don't know why but Nigel just cracks me up😂😂 Did SCARLET figure out the step going in to her stall/barn or did she stay outside during the rain shower?
I enjoyed the work with you today. I’m headed back in now to take care of my Irish Wolfhound. Just let me know what time I need to be there tomorrow. I can help with the breakfasts and give a few scratches, turn the shaky plate on for Tiny and toss a stick for Huckleberry. Have a good day CC!
Lol! That shot of little Old Man Nigel! And he got himself in the mud after the storm!! He's really a kid in an old body!! He's such a little devil 😈😈. So happy the boys are getting along. Love Goose! 😊 They are all so sweet! God Bless you Sweetheart for loving all your animals! Too bad there isn't more loving, kind people like you in the world these days ❤❤ 😘🤗🤠
Good decision. No wonder why CC's horses are so chilled....they must love the calming music!! Just love Ziggy....he's so cute and sensitive. He's not interested in any of the politics...he just wants to be liked 🥰
So much consideration for the hierarchy and feelings of each horse - They ALL look so beautiful - even mud covered Nigel. . . Must say that your music choices are phenomenally enjoyable - Also that tik tok of "your friend Steve" gave me a needed belly laugh last night - thank you!
I'm glad you give yourself time to soak in the beauties and happy abundance you DO have while you await a breakthrough with the property hunt, which is NEVER easy. BUT the right thing WILL come along at the right time, and all shall be well. Hugs, from England.
I have learned so much about horse care and management. I’ve always wanted a horse but I’ve never had one. There is certainly a lot mower to having a horse. I really like how you take time to get to know each horse so well. You’re 6:19 such a great example of how to really rehab a horse bring them along allow them to learn to trust and love life again😊😊😊
I have wild range horses around where I live in NV. Mostly feral horses whose former owners didn't understand the up keep of owning a horse. Thankyou for all these lessons that one can learn. Give the little turd Nigel some scratches for me. How you accomplish all your chores plus train the horses is beyond me. Have a wonderful day.
I can tell how sure you were that the new herd would work out well because you stayed in the dry lot with them all for the introduction. It’s lovely how well you know your horses and how attentive you are to their needs. Take care of yourself too though.
Zigs is such a sweetheart. Think you're right, bullied at the dude ranch and maybe didn't get enough to eat. He loves his scritches from you. You are so his person now ❤
I think that flower is “milk thistle” …it’s very good for detoxifying/cleansing the liver. Protects liver cells from damage, so it’s nice the horses have access to it.
It is brutal in the wild. Baby horses often get pushed out by stallions. If they miss out getting vital nutrients after birth they won’t last long. There are people who watch and adopt the colts if they find them in time. It is nature.
It can be hard (and dangerous) for the very young and old. The advantage is having hundreds of acres of space. Room to get away and start new herds when needed.
I thought Ziggy was head horse because he seems so happy and carries himself so royally. Anything I know about horses is from watching your channel. Thanks.
Car battery: Suggest you talk to a mechanic about installing a battery cutoff. I have a Hummer that always would drain the battery. Installing the cutoff solved the problem 100%. Cheap, perfect solution.
Goose is such a handsome horse. They all look happy, well fed, and healthy. Your ability to understand what each horse needs by observing their individual personalities is amazing. I could do that pretty well with my one or two horses at a time, but with the number you're handling it is simply amazing. I do love watching your videos.
CC, you have a superior understanding of listening, watching, and cooperating with your horses to a great extent for their well-being! Thank you so much for sharing your life and that which you give to marginal horses and bringing each one to full potential while becoming happy horses!❤🐴🐎
It takes skill to integrate these personalities. I do hope this new grouping settles down well and that Ziggy is not run off. I love your music selection with this video, CC. 96.9 K subscribers.... I'm sure it will hit 100K soon! Keep up the great work. Nice to see those deer prancing through. ♥
Social dynamics are so fascinating. Fluid and complicated. I really appreciate your thought processes and showing how to make introductions safely. So, so, so much happens in each of those little meetings. Used to introduce shelter dogs to potential adoptive family dogs. A nice neutral first is good. A doggie party is better. I spent a ton of time setting expectations for the people so their dogs and the rest of the family would be successful. The intention you use, CC, is very much appreciated. I just realized I’ve been a member a little over four months - how time is flying!
There is usually a way forward even with obstacles. It would seem horses can self regulate well enough, if given their time to adjust. I know my success with autism was partly learned by being with and observing horses. Horses seem to do better than many humans. Watching you move the round bales even hurt my back, pulling would be better than pushing; there should be a better way. 😉
The horses all look so good .. And when re-introducing Goose .. Ehhmm ...who is he ...oooow look ,food ! Smart move CC... Food gets the attention any time
You drive a SAAB! One of the best cars ever engineered! My husband drove his first SAAB for 18 years. He is now still driving his 2006 SAAB sedan-but the repairs are getting more expensive. I marvel that you have access to a dealer who can order parts and fix her out in the country. May your SAAB live long and prosper!❤️
Goose looked like aww Mom, do I have to get my feet done? LOL! Ziggy is still my favorite, but then he looks like the wind when he runs! So beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing! I have to check in to get a glimpse of beautiful Montana once in while! Thistles give good minerals as long as they don't get into the pricklies!
Every time i tune in i wanna ride! I love horse bk riding and Swimming. I can't get enough. I miss the feeling of a horse taking off ful speed.! ❤ Ziggggggy! Goosey goose, stundman.
Re: your car... if there is a security system, that is a very common battery drain. Look to see if there is a fuse you can pull in the wiring to the security system.
Love the music. I do hope Goose behaves himself with Ziggy. Would love to adopt Ziggy. Nigel is such a funny little guy, with all you're doing for him, he's still stand-offish.
Just a idea try pulling out the light under the hood, the one in the trunk and the inside overhead light. For me it was the one under the hood as soon as I pulled it it stopped draining the battery. Poor Goose his past transgressions have come back to haunt him, well maybe he'll stop being a bully now. Ziggy keeps giving Goose the cold shoulder, lol.
It sure makes life easier when everyone gets along and having 4 and 4 together makes it nice and even for you to get things done and check on! What a great day! Stewy is so stinkin' cute!
I'm glad all the boys are getting along. I like how Primrose answered your question with a nod of her head! And yes, real estate/property shopping can be a bit stressful so good for your taking time each day to appreciate all the good in your life (because there's SO MUCH!) and affirm that your perfect place is out there. The two of you are looking for each other and will find each other in perfect timing.
