Must suck for this guy. Just imagine watching your a movie about your life and your group and how your group rised from struggles, and you're completely forgotten. That's a hella hard slap in the face.
+Keyser Soeze I agree that Ren should've had a bigger presence in the movie but you have to remember that it was only Dre, Cube and Eazy who had very successful solo albums and other projects. No disrespect at all to Ren because he was a great lyricist and a great rapper but he just didn't have that " it factor " that Dre, Cube and Eazy had
I know many people said it before but it's really fucked up how they portrayed Eazy all miserable after N.W.A., doing nothing but smoking weed, downgrading houses and shit. Of course they showed Dre doing The Chronic and Cube writing Friday but they didn't show Eazy working with Bone Thugs which were more successful than N.W.A. themselves. Also the scene when Eazy and Cube meet in NY and Cube is sitting like a don with bodyguards mean muggin Eazy and making Eazy seem like a needy, weak ass muthafucka when Layzie Bone depicted the situation vividly in his interviews and it seems it was nothing like that. Obviously I wasn't there so I can't say but as a childhood N.W.A. fan I felt like the movie was a subliminal diss towards Eazy.
+AWOL 1 Bone Had the number one album in the country eazy wuzint broke he was bout to do GTA years before it was done that video game eazy was ahead of his time
your right. I had a feeling that if cube and dre were gonna have a say so that they was gonna make cube look straight gangsta and dre ,and kinda made easy soft which was some bullshit.
Exactly, I’m only 20, but I grew up with 6 boys, I been listening to old school. When that movie came out, kids come out of everywhere blasting “Straight Outta’ Compton”, the damn title of the movie as their theme song. It was so annoying, I couldn’t wait until it died down. Lmao. However, our youth wasn’t aware of such history, so I’m glad they caught on. Well, majority.
So true. Sad thing is that folks aren’t even willing to really do the research & know the facts, just believing what they see on TV, film & facebook...
People always mention Tupac and how he was doing Hail Mary too early in the movie, but that wasn't the major discrepancy -- they forget to mention that Tupac wasn't even on Death Row at the time -- in the movie, he was on Death Row while Eazy-E was in the hospital and before he died. In real life, Tupac was in jail when Eazy-E died, and he didn't sign to Death Row until September 1995 while still in jail -- 6 months after Eazy-E died. And he started recording for Death Row in October 1995.
+DiverseLA But Pac was affiliated though at that time. Remember pac was in the Ice Cube and Dre "natural born killaz" vid and thats in 94'. They was probably in the beginning
Now that I think about it, the movie had it right. They didn't show pac in the studio until AFTER EAZY DIED. They just fastforwarded to that timeline of Dre leaving deathrow. They had the timeline right. They showed eazy died and then showed dre at deathrow and then pac. They just fast-forwarded.
I didn't see Ren as a star but he was important to the group. How can you downplay his role when he was there the entire time and an important lyricist in the group. Not a hanger on like he was portrayed in the movie.
@@ch33zybreadtrellie4 think yungstas wer the ones anticipating easy more so. Cats who kno n been round the history n culture wanted more of how it really went down. They all played they rolls n tha circle. Certain cats who wer bigger were gettn help from ones who wernt as known
Born Me I agree wit u cuz most of the character not on there nd they make eazy e broke thts why I barley like the movie nd Jerry wasn't mean nd trippin nd shit
@@harijsmiezitis2646 yup. The only thing I can say bad about him is that the two songs he actually worked on in the original album sucked. I don’t know why of all the dope cuts on it, they had to be those two lol
@@harijsmiezitis2646 it wasn't no fucking documentary. It was a movie about a period of time in the group. Geez do you even know what a documentary is? Here's a fucking clue. They're usually narrarated. Not scripted.
The flick focused on the three characters that are relevant today: the dead legend, the movie star, and Eminem's producer- the hundred dollar headphone dude. lol. It's Hollywood, that's how it works.
i asked vlad on twitter and he said ren doesnt like doin interviews...he passed. but maybe he should ask again cuz he did an interview w complex i think
that wasn't my point, jackass. now-a-days everybody is openly a bitch and have no impact whatsoever. these guys, gangster or not, are still being talked about. just like pac being "gangster" it was to get into the minds of gangsters and speak with them mentally.
+Roy King. I know. When Notorious came out, it had identical buzz as this movie. People just started hating as time went on. The same thing will happen with this movie!
+BronerBeast naw trust me Im from the east coast Im kinda mad at how cheesy Notorious was compared to Straight Outta Compton. I felt like the only really good Character/actor was the dude that played biggie however he wasnt as ugly as biggie. Its weird but biggie was so ugly that he made it cool to be ugly. What fat lazy eye nigga you know smashing red bones like faith evans currently? Lil cease character was a joke. Puffy was hood but he didnt get played correctly. Kim was actually a good girl playing the bad bitch in 3rd person. Trust me man I got every reason to want to like the film being that my fam is from NY but that shit is like a lifetime movie compared to this. I think what messed up the Biggie movie the most was the fact they had real popular actor playing these roles and I think Ice Cube learned from that and said he was gonna use nobodies and it ended up working out in his favor.
Mid West Fam lets go back in history! When Notorious came out, it had IDENTICAL buzz! Everyone was saying how perfect the actors were. Dude who played Puff; I remember everyone saying how perfect he was, he was giving Biggie speeches, and had Puff's personality! The movie looked sharp and fresh. It def wasnt no damn Lifetime movie! NWA movie was the same imo, and is talked about the same way! I thought Eazy was the only one that didnt do good. He aint look like eazy, talk like eazy. Dre and Cube was on point. Cube was perfect, but even he had some scenes where he kinda fell off. All in all, the Notorious movie was executed a little better. The NWA movie was clean af, but we have to remember these are baby actors who havent been in the game that much. But as time goes on, everyone will lie like this movie was trash! Both movies are just about equally great, but the Biggie movie had more professional veteran actors than the NWA movie!
As much as I loved the film, I think they need to all collaborate and put out a mini documentary series that gives Arabian Prince, The D.O.C. and the rest of the early Ruthless Records people their fair due.
People gotta understand that Dre and Cube mainly fund this movie and of course they gonna sell their brand... I would love to see the other members make their version... Michelle did
I grew up with Eazy He was really the type of guy you wouldn't mess with ..and he got the women even before the career.. Never saw them other dudes tho
I wish they made a miniseries of the history of NWA that focused more on the people who didn't become super stars like Eazy, Dre, and Cube. Even in the Straight Outta Compton film, after Dre started Death Row, I was surprised how little Warren G and Snoop Doggy Dogg were showcased even though they were responsible for a lot of the early success of Death Row Records. Without Warren G, Snoop might have never gotten a chance at a record deal, plus he was instrumental in giving Dre old soul and funk records to sample from. I get that a lot of stuff had to be trimmed down to make a 2 hour film, but it would be great to have a more in depth story of NWA and the history of each member after the group splintered apart.
SenamaTv I realize that it's an NWA film, but it would still be dope if they did a more in depth miniseries, focusing on the birth of West Coast gangsta Rap & G-Funk.
Ice cube was a social commentator about his neighborhood and surroundings cities. He stated that meaning of times in interviews. He's a great story teller and writer about life in South Central LA, Compton, Watts, etc. In my opinion, Ice cube is one of the greatest lyricist from the Golden era. All of his lyrics are brutality honesty and are observations about Hood USA life. Most that grew up in So CAL hood in the 80's related and gravitated to Ice Cube reality raps and people around the world got insight on African-American and Latino-American culture and oppressions. He is a true artist and to me a real gangsta by navigating the hood and music industry and making it out alive and successful. Growing up in the 80's/90's in Compton was rough whether you gang banged or not (sometimes it was worse on a kid to not to be affiliated). I wholeheartedly concur with Arabian Prince and respect his legacy. He should've been in the movie. Big ups to him! Compton Finest!
Facts. I'm from Compton, grew up in Compton, listening to Cube my whole life, I have never heard Cube say he was bangin, or claim any hood. Just told stories about the hood
The movie was bullshit to make Cube and Dre look good. Cube dressed in a raiders hat and khakis in school in the movie. Look up cubes real high school pics lol. Dre knocking guys out with 1 punch and they left out Eazy getting money off Dre dissing him.
It was great movie cinematically but it was OBVIOUS that Ice Cube & Dre slanted reality to make themselves look GREAT while ignoring ALL of the mistakes they made personally in their early careers concerning contracts & the decisions they made! (e.g. Dr. Dre TOTALLY left out the fact that he set-up Eazy-E to get threatened by Suge which ULTIMATELY lead to Dre losing EVERYTHING he did at Death Row!!!)
Ice Cube got ZERO pussy on the road + he was a CHILD (17) while the rest were in their early or mid-twenties = they got TONS of pussy vs. Ice Cube striking out REGULARLY= more insight they left out to make themselves seem NOT so stupid! Dre left out the fact that his FIRST THREE contracts he signed left him BROKE & trying to DESPERATELY get out of those deals. To this day, Dr. Dre has NEVER owned his own company, been the BOSS of his own company or made money from the sale of his company's or the IP associated with these labels or businesses successes'!
Well you know what, I just remembered that during that scene with the meeting with Suge, Dre, and Jimmy Iovine, Suge did mention about Dre having troubles with 'contracts', 'lawsuits' and stuff. I mean I know that ain't probably NOTHING, it's kinda SOMETHING. I think overall it's a lot of scenes that did get cut out cuz it was certain stuff they said in a couple of scenes that made believe like that scene must've been cut out.
Andre Salazar well, like I said, they mentioned the contracts and lawsuits and a lot of scenes was cut out. Don't get me wrong, I understand what you saying.
I agree I understand the point he tryin to make....but he low key shittin on cube...not even low key. He dnt kno how to talk to black people...we see how ross responded
+2pacexpert I never said that Gucci was one of the best lyricist I said he's bout that action when it comes to the street shit... So you saying he's garbage is irrelevant as fuck
+likereallystfu Its funny, when I first watched it, I was like "Man, that movie was DOPE! And they got most everything right!" But then after a few days when that buzz died down and I thought about it some more, I was like "wait, they got a lot of shit wrong, a lot of shit out of order and it was definitely biased in favor of Dre and Cube."
this really shows how black folks and the crabs in a bucket mentality is so real. I have never experienced anything like this where a movie comes out and then people who aren't that important comes out and try to debunk everything about the movie
+willie waka whistle i know its hollywood cant put every last detail of a persons life in a movie every body cant have a part every cuzin every aunty like come on nigga
Ren was always my favorite lyricist from NWA. DOPE. I don't know what your beef is wit Cube, however I hope some of the homies address you one day when you lackin-security. You been shittin on him for nothin in several interviews.
Another discrepancy, Eazy E never came on stage at the Detroit show. Their show got shut down before his entrance. He was supposed to come out later after NWA did some without him. It was to set up the crowd to start yelling out "We Want Eazy!" We never saw Eazy that night. FACTS
I thought the movie was going to suck I thought it was going to suck real real bad but I actually liked it I thought it was really good was it true and based on facts? No of course not! That's how Hollywood is they take some facts some fantasy mix it all together and then make a movie that's just how it is and not just with this movie with all movies!
As a "Compton" native, I loved the movie, because it brought back so many memories! Especially the scene when NWA performed at "Skateland" I remember hanging out there, as a teenager and seeing EPMD perform there before anyone even knew who they were (especially) anyone from Compton! I did here many people say there were discrepancies, when it comes to the group. Although, I am much younger than Dre, and Eazy, I am more Cube's age, but one thing that I know to be for sure, is that "Arabian Prince" was definitely one of the original members. If you look at the cover of the NWA "Straight Outta Compton" album; there's 6 members: Eazy, Dre, Cube, Ren, Yella, and Arabian Prince. I remember girls loved "Arabian Prince" because he sort of looked like the gangsta version of Prince (I believe he is half Arab) it is also true what he said about Eazy, everybody from Compton know his rep' and he was always very talented, smart, and a real one!
The anachronistic White Sox ballcap that Eazy wears right in the beginning always bugged me. Chicago didn't get the black and white hats until 1990....due in part to the popularity of black colored sports apparel that NWA promoted starting in 1986.
Yeah, some of the fashion was off in the movie. Dudes pants were to lose and baggy for the 1980s. Even for the late 80s, they had big jackets and tops but not the pants
WHEN I WALKED OUT THIS MOVIE , THE FIRST THING I SAID WAS " WHERE WAS Arabian Prince ! & EVERYONE ELSE?!?!" This White boy was there!! I had CIA , world class Wrekin Crew & All the other Albums!! When they first came out Before NWA!! Arabian princess tracks raw my favorites!! I was very disappointed they left you out of the movie. . .. :(
+dfiz313 I was thinking the same thing & unless I'm mistaken Eazy was the first to speak on studio gangsters on the clip from CB4, coulda been an interview from elsewhere but I think it was from there tho
+Billy Ocean That's a enough thing they changed in the movie cube didn't squash his beef with eazy at the tunnel club in new york. he squashed it at the set of cb4 in 1993 when eazy waited for cube to come then walked up to him and shook his hand.
The No Vaseline scene was chronologically inaccurate. The New York Seminar incident spawned No Vaseline, not the other way around. But, it was STILL great movie though....
At first, I was bout disagree with that but thinking about it more just now with Message to BA, yea, you right. I cherry picked certain scenes that was chronological inaccurate but that so good catch!
I don't agree with people, who say, that despite all the lies, it was still a great film. I was bored throughout all of it, and I'm a fan of NWA. This movie literally told me nothing I didn't already know, on top of that lied about things I did know. But, I think the biggest sin of it is not being believable. A lot of the scenes in the film, I just couldn't believe these are real people, it was sooo staged. And the characters themselves were so fake. As a fan of NWA I was hoping they would adress more controversial stuff. I was hoping to see the reasoning for the questionable things they did sometimes. I was hoping to learn more about their actual lives. In the film though, it shows them as these perfect people, when they in fact had a lot of problems, like any other human being. And, what makes interesting characters is problems and obstacles. Honestly, towards the end, I was begging for the film to end. I even felt no empathy towards Eazy's death in the film, cause it wasn't Eazy. 2Pac was in the film just for the sake of being there. For the same reason they put Kendrick Lamar in the credits, despite him having nothing to do with the group. It's all about the popular people, and pandering to their egos. Tbh I lost so much respect towards Cube and Dre after this. How can they support a film, that lies to everybody's faces? And, I mean, even the titular song, Straight Outta Compton, they couldn't even show it properly. They played it a couple of times in the film, in a very non-climactic way, and both times Eazy's verse. What's up with that? The director didn't know what he was doing.
I just realized after all these years that Arabian Prince was only involved on the songs that were totally away from the gangsta vibe. Makes me wonder how NWA would've been like had he never left. Even Ice Cube said in a few interviews he hated the two songs this guy was on. Don't get me wrong, Arabian Prince seems like a great guy I was just thinking about that like how much sound wise they needed him.
I hate Vlad at 9:00 minutes talking about Cube's street status. He never claimed to be "street" or "thuggin" ...He rapped about people's experiences in the hood.
+brandonrussell79 But what Vlad says about Cube's persona is true, pretty much everyone....fans, the media and other rappers in the game thought that Cube was just about the scariest dude around. Ice Cube was the most feared rapper in the game throughout the '90s and late '80s.
+brandonrussell79 He coulda been like Slick Rick when he told a story...rick himself wasnt the subject, he talked about someone else doing the stuff. Straight outta compton, a Crazy muthafukka name Ice cube(He is the subject) then he goes on to say all this other gangsta shit he's done and will do if you fuck with him. thus Vlad and alot of other people got this impression when they were youngsters that Cube was a real gangsta and hardcore as fuck. First off he is not and never was from Compton! And he never personally gang banged. NWA told amazing stories about gangsters in compton, but they wrote themselves in as the gangsters doing the shit they rapped about...which was hardly true. Thats why lonzo said it fucked him up when he heard it, lol And AP just further backed it here.
ULTIMATEbudokai3 I never said Cube gang banged and in that line, he said his name, but he still speaking for the streets. Your problem if you don't get that. Never not one interview did he say he was thugging or gang banger. He always made it clear he was speaking for those who get misrepresented in society. Also, I've never been trouble don't mean I'm not a target by white supremacy! Get it together!
+brandonrussell79 Fuck a interview, not everybody is sitting around checking for that shit; they just go by what their music. If you use yourself in first person saying all kinds of gangsta shit then you are stating that you are gangsta. Only niggas who dickride or are eating off these studio gangstas say the opposite. If you like his music despite him being fake, then so be it, but don't pretend like everybody is supposed to know that.
The editing in the movie was stupid because they shown Pac doing Hail Mary and then shown Eazy E dying but Pac was in prison during that time. Poor editing of the movie.
Arabian Price. What a cool man. He could have easily started complaining about not getting his fair share of recognition and screen time in the movie. AP responded straight forward and truthfully. He comes across as a mature adult with out a trace of conceit or jealousy. It shows he isn't carrying any petty resentment or animosity. Seems like he's moved on with his life and isn't stuck reliving the past - desperately trying to capture any fame attached with NWA. Good for him!
I agree....keep hearing ppl say oh they put that in there for entertainment purposes for the movie🤔.....eazy signing mickey mouse on the contract while being approached by suge and goons then them bug azz dudes jumping E which damn near everybody said wasn't true
I feel like Arabian Prince should have been in the movie with a small part just to school the young kids on the group His introduction in the movie could have been when Dre was scratching and mixing at jinx moms he could have been sitting next to Jinx and they could have made his character leave the group after the studio sessions in Torrance It would have played good to say he left the group because of the contracts not being right and Ice Cube was peeping it
I think the movie didnt do justice to mc ren when him and cube were the writers of the group they just side lined mc ren which wasnt right the movie was ok but it didn't cover all area's.... they messed up mc ren
you think dre really knocked out 3 bloods in front of suge knight, that he told pac to sit in the studio and just let him do his thing and pac just listened to him, and that he went on a 5 star joyride and got arrested with helicopters on him? and cube was 17-18, so what do you expect? he had the bye felicia thing (which didn't actually happen) and the smashing office thing (which did happen)
I don't agree that "Notorious" wasn't as good as "Straight Outta Compton"...both were GREAT movies!! Now "All Eyez On Me", straight 🗑 and I am a serious Tupac fan!!!
Right. What did y'all expect this movie was going to be? 100% accurate and perfect? Although there was things that was questionable but overall I loved it. This was going to be no different from other bios when it came to accuracy/inaccuracy.
Movie should have been a mini series like The Temptations or Jackson 5: American Dream. Could have been a nice length, released on netflix or something so the music can be there and uncensored.
And Lonzo says he was the most gangsta out of all of them back in the heyday. Pssh one look at Eazy I'd know that dude was the craziest. Also, that story Arabian Prince said about Eazy carrying around a hammer when he's about to kick ass reminds me of the scene in the movie where HBO and NWA almost got into a scrap and you see Eazy in the back hiding a bottle behind him like he's about to knock someone out with it if things went further.
