If you are a beginner, pay absolutely no attention to the comments, because they bring up things you are not going to care about! Just listen to Maha.

dear, dee... im not maha, nor an arabic teacher either... but if i may, al in the beginning of single word spelled 'al' because its stand alone.. in the written, its no harkat (maybe in the latin words harkat means vocal letters: a-i-u-e-o), so its says 'a' .. but if there is a word that ends with vocal letter before the 'al' word, then the 'al' follows the vocal letter before words.. sorry for interuppting.. and sorry for my bad english, just wanna share and hope it helps.. @teknotoast
@teknotoast 12 лет назад
maha maha... When speaking al-arabiyya and you have a preposition like fi, followed by the particle al-, like, fi al-bayt ghurfa, is it normal to take the "a" out of al, and conjoin the fi and -l, so it's more like Fil-bayt ghurfa Is this a right way of thinking?

What I wonder is how to say it without "it" being "in" something. Like instead of "In the house there are rooms" (Fi al-Bayt Ghuraf) how to just say "There are rooms" or "There is a God" "There isn't a way out of here", etc. :O

@TrueMetal80 If u don't minde i'll answer your question and say that there's no difference between them..with the "-" or without it it's the same thing and u can pronounce the word in the same way al ....

@Jnvlv247 - (Huna) and (Hunaaka) are prepositions that give the meaning : (Here) (Huna) is used to describe short distances (some thing that is near) and (Hunaaka) for long distances (far) Kind of like the difference between (this) and (those) in English - (fee) is also a preposition which means (in) - (yoojad) means (exists) and it is a verb - All exist in Standard Arabic and not confined to a particular dialect.

@Parteque
@Parteque 13 лет назад
@jhon82173 you have to use 'al' if you talk about a definite thing. for example: Fi bayt(in) guraf - In a house there are rooms. (undefinite) Fi al-bayt(i) guraf - In the house there are rooms. (definite) [fi-lbayt]
