Lyrics: Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien Sinome Maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-Metta English Lyrics Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.
Btw this is what real masculinity is. Not toxic masculinity. He has killed over 200 orcs during the war against Sauron. He reclaimed his kingdom. And at the end of it all, he was unafraid to show emotion and he even passionately sang Elendil's Oath to all of them. Essentially in front of the world. On top of it all, he didn't try to steal credit for getting rid of Sauron. A true King, an honorable man and a strong warrior.
The tuning of the Oath of Elendil is another piece of genius. If you notice, it uses only a set of four to five notes, but in that it conveys so much. Starting from the lower octave and resting at the base note, Aragorn voices the sorrow of Elendil at the loss of the land of Numenor, the realm of his ancestors. "Et Earello Endorenna Utulien". When he voices Utulien, he shows the deep sadness he has about having to leave his nation. "To Middle Earth, I have finally arrived, driven by need" is the implied meaning of the line Endorenna Utulien. And then, at the lifting of "Sinome maruvan", the music becomes stronger, more deep, signifying his determination and optimism for Elendil's future in Middle-Earth. And then, the music lifts to its highest note yet as the singer holds the 'a' in Hildinyar, making the spirit of the ancestor of Aragorn so explicit, it makes you want to cry with joy. The music's depth reaches a crescendo when Ambar-Metta is sung. The End of Days, Ambar-Metta, is the limit which Elendil gives for the prosperity of his descendants, such is his confidence; so the music holds the deepest and strongest note there. This, added to the context and grandeur of the situation (the heir of Numenor is finally crowned in the city of kings, people, what do you expect), makes the listener want to cry with a set of indescribable emotions. What a masterpiece!
@@elcihad No, this is Quenya - more Latin&Finnish-like, You can recognize it from the many double consonants before a vowel in the end (Et Eärello - Eär + an ending; Endorenna - Endor + an ending). Sindarin is more Welsh-looking, it has more short words. Like what Arwen speaks with Aragorn
When the movie was ending and Aragorn started to sing this beautiful song, the hair all over my body turned into steel and my chest trumbled in cosmic feelings
So, so powerful. Seriously, Viggo Morensen played Aragorn perfectly. The king who grieves even as he sees new hope for the world, beautiful. Even his singing holds that melancholy, the pain of Aragorn for those lost and the sacrifices made, and the pain of the man who first set foot on the shore after losing his home. Both feel hope, but both also feel the heavy weight of grief.
this... not only feels like an ending for an epic trilogy... it feels like this world is too old, so ancient. we experience a fraction of elf's lives in the Silmarilion as well as in other works.. no wonder they are weary, they can only rest in valinor with the rest of their kin. the emotion im feeling is crushing dread and nostalgic sadness, I've never lived there. if there is indeed n afterlife, I'd wish for nothing more than to live there, to treasure their world, to learn humbleness and kindness. my deepest gratitude, mr tolkien.. thank you for letting us experience this universe
Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien Sinomë maruvan Ar Hildinyar Tenn' Ambar-metta. Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world. Do grande mar à Terra Média eu vim. Aqui irei habitar, e meus herdeiros, até o fim do mundo.
This song makes me emotional. The interpretation of lyrics, his voice, as smooth and deep as a well-worn memory of happiness. So soft. So beautiful. So full of feeling and meaning. Slightly sad. The King has returned, and here in the house of his heirs he shall stay, until the ending of the world.
@Dead Meme In Tolkien's mythos there is the idea of a battle similar to Ragnarok, called the Dagor Dagorath, in which the world will be destroyed and remade. In the process it will be freed from the corruption that was set upon it by Morgoth in the original Music of the Ainur. Though not explicitly stated, it seems that men are meant to be effectively reincarnated or reborn in the process.
perfect photo for the "hidden king." Aragorn was the humblest character in this story - when people bowed to him, he looked away and bowed back. Elrond had to tell him to "put aside the ranger and become what you were born to be." and most of all, when Elrond returned the flame of the west to him, he said "I bring hope to men." Aragorn replied, "...I keep none for myself." as humble as it gets. Tolkien made sure that in the end, no one would deserve it more than Aragorn
The I keep none for myself line was actually spoken by Gilraen, Aragorn's mother. She said she would keep no hope for herself, because she knew she would never see her son again.
As a young lad I had a wonderful teacher in Alaska who had us read the Hobbit as one of our required books that year, I fell in love with Tolkien's world that year and waited most of a lifetime after reading all I could find on it to see it put into the format of a movie ! Now many years and a couple wars later my dream came true in this wonderful and very well thought out and produced set of movies and have turned all most all of my children, grandchildren, and anyone else who would listen to it When it comes my time to go to the green hills with the ocean calling me I will be laid to rest as in the times of middle earth with Billy Boyd's The Last Farewell playing....Peace and Be Well....Byrdy
William Ridgley Wow your comment gave me goosebumps. I'm pretty sure you are someone of good spirit and Valars know it. Be pleased in the eternal fields waiting for us. Bye
Aragorn keeping the vow of his ancestor to protect and respect the world they came to is always such a somber and inspiring moment. It is a sacrifice few, I think, could fulfill. He and his kin will do so most admirably, I know it.
Aragorn is Elendil's true son. Isildur and his sons messed it up. Aragorn rebuilt everything Elendil had made, and more even. He is a true Númenórean of the Faithful.
@@bigboss9817 I agree but unfortunately he only lived 210 years and ruled for 122 years. I am disappointed that the Valar or even Eru Ilúvatar didn't allow him to live the full 500 years of what a true faithful Numenorean king should live.
@@mael2839 yeah, but he lived a lot in those 200 years. Protecting the hobbits and the One Ring from Sauron. Leading the kingdoms through the war. Falling in love with Eowyn, who was willing to give her immorality up for him. And I like to think Elessar will return at the end of the world, the final battle between good and evil. Morgoroth vs Turin Turambar. The Fellowship , all of them together , to ward off Sauron so Turin can finish what he started.
Its just so beautiful seeing the rise of elessar ,he went from a ranger named strider to an hier named aragorn to a king named elessar Damn movies nowdays will never stand a chance against lotr
Time has not diminished the effect of this piece in the slightest. It remains one of the most beautiful performances I've heard. Viggo's voice is amazing.
I honestly can't even try to figure out the pain Elendil must have been feeling when pronouncing this words... after losing his own land.. Makes me sad, but what an awesome song :3
@@user-if7hu3zq9c it was during the "Fall of Numenor" where The last king, Ar-Pharazôn, wanted control of Middle-earth, and so he attacked Sauron. Sauron's armies became afraid of the might of Númenor, and so he was captured and brought imprisoned to the Númenórian king. However, Sauron exploited his power to corrupt the Númenorian king to his will. Soon he became his adviser, and much of Númenor obeyed his will and worshipped Morgoth. Sauron convinced Ar-Pharazôn to try to assail Aman(the place where elves sail after a period of time and were the ones who shaped the planet live) for immortality, desiring to destroy Númenor with the wrath of the Valar(the gods who shaped and ruled the planet of earth/arda). However as this was done, the Valar appealed to Eru Ilúvatar. Eru destroyed the Númenórian host, by crushing it under stones; however, he also caused the whole of Númenor to sink under the Great Ocean. Just a few men of Númenórian royal blood, descendants of a long line called "The Faithful" because they were uncorrupted by Sauron, had fled Númenor by ships earlier with some gifts that Men received from the Valar and the Elves in times of peace.
@@zeppelinled3967 and Elendil's father Amandil sailing west to ask the Valar for mercy also likely played a role. He was never heard from again, however a great wave carried Elendil's ships safely to Middle Earth, implying Amandil's pleas were heard
I can just close my eyes and picture myself standing on a cliff overlooking Middle Earth with Aragorn at my side, raining flower pedals like at his coronation. This is just amazing, and everytime I hear it, it takes me somewhere else.
Same. It is still strange to me, how real Middle-Earth feels when I contemplate about it. Its like our imagination has an otherworldly connection to this place.
Knowing Viggo Mortensen sings many other songs (wonderfully, might I add) and speaks over 7 different languages just makes this that much more hair-raising and beautiful. I remember physically bowing my head when I first saw this scene in theater. He is a wonderful actor and singer! 🥰
The Oath of Elendil: Et Eärello...Endorenna utúlien...Sinome Maruvan....ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-Metta. means in common tongue : Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.
I LOVE this song. Because it is the key that unlock a great blanket of peace and serenity. Making me think of green pastures, waterfalls, beaches and other many natural beauties of New Zealand and others. Thank you!!
But first, when you die you go to the Hall of Mandos and if you're lucky human, you can be reborn in middle earth or the undying lands; only Eru knows though~
Always. We're too advanced in my opinion. What happened to good ol' swordsmanship? And there was a lot more freedom back then. We were tough. Now were pussies who rely on TV to survive.
i have to say this, this is the first song i have heard that gives me some hope that this world and our lives can get better, aragorn sings it after a long and costly war wich simbolizes peace , i never found such a good song until now..
Bruno Madeira it’s about The Kingdom of Heaven and Our King Returning for us in 2020 HOPE IS THE WEAPON AND LOVE IS OUR PASSION WHICH OUTLASTS THE STORMS
I wish I could like this more than once. And listen forever. And I wish it was longer. And I wish I could listen to it any louder without ruining my hearing for the rest of my life
For a long time, I had this faint tune stuck in my head. For the life of me, I could not remember what the song was, until I found this video. So thank you. :)
Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta! English Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place will I abide, and my heirs, Unto the ending of the world.
Im crying like a baby while listening Elendil’s Oath. His voice is absolutely stunning, and yet it’s really pure and simple. It’s my personal opinion, but Aragorn was a man, yes, but a very humble man. Despite the story of his ancestors, he tried to save everyone, tried to protect everyone, and done everything for them. He never tried to take the ring, while Boromir was the first to be tempted to use it. Even during his coronation, he stayed humble and didn’t try to take the credits for defeating Sauron. He thanked the Hobbits and bowed before them in front of the city. A king bowed before his friends. And I find his voice simple as Aragorn is, it add a little something to the song. I’m sad that it’s not longer .. Thanks to Viggo for singing this ❤️
***** Its not that far fetched. I mean I didnt think evolution but what I did think is that we are born to the world. The Great Sea is life itself and on to the earth we come. What we do here stays here, only for our heirs to see. Until the final end that is to where our heirs return to the sea.
To say Tolkien is dead is highly insulting. He still lives so long as his work is appreciated and viewed. A person lives or dies based around the memory of them selves they leave behind. In that sense Tolkien still lives.
Tolkein Shaped the very fabric of modern fantasy, If you've read the stories before The Lord of the Rings you know that. In a sense, he does live on, his body may be dead. But his dreams live on in all fantasy stories that we read today, and for that I thank you..... John Ronald Reuel Tolkein. Êl síla erin lû e-govaned vîn.
Eeli Tanskanen Nice post, Tolkien based some of his languages on Finnish. Like Tolkien, I am also a fan of Finland. Eläköön Suomi!!! (I hope I got that right...)
Eeli Tanskanen Thank you, Also, If Putin and Russia ever violate Finnish sovereignty...I am one American that will be on the first plane to Finland to help.
Indonesian lyrics/dalam bahasa Indonesia: Dari samudera luas ke Bumi Tengah aku datang, Di tempat ini aku akan menetap, dan anak cucuku, hingga akhir dunia.
The very fact of imagining having a chance to experience the events of The Silmarillion is giving me amazing and horrific feelings at the same time, running through my veins as chilly wind of Helcaraxë. Just try to put yourself in a situation, whence there is no escape and you are cast into Arda and have to manage to survive. It clearly represents an absolutely unexampled possibility to experience a cross-section of incredible luck and inevitable perdition. Tië Sundonnar.
I imagine that one day Christ the King, in New Jerusalem, will sing a thanksgiving to His Heavenly Father and a Blessing over Mankind and all of Creation.
I met a woman at the last showing the last showing of the third film. I and a total stranger cried when this scene began. To all who love the books and the films you are kindred spirits.
such a short part of the track 'Return of the King,' but worth it. I honestly thought on rewatches, that there was a whole track of a longer song of Vigo singing that just had to be cut. But, it really is just a small poem
Desde el gran océano... hasta la tierra media vine... esta será mi morada... y la de mis descendientes...hasta el fin del mundo... Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien Sinome Maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-Metta... -_-
Bro Only the Dunadain rangers of the north knew Aragorn was king before his coronation. And some others like Faramir and known characters but most known him as 'elfstone' from when he was working in the healing houses of Gondor after the battle of Pellanor fields. proving that a king has healing hands elfstone translates to Ellesar in Elven which is where his name comes from, change yours quickly before people notice ;)
Aha fair enough, did you know galadriel is elronds mother on law? and that isuldurs father elendil is elronds great great great act nephew. making Aragorn related to arwen/elrond ;)
If you ever feel like life is tough, that you're down on your luck, or you're going through a depressing time right now, always remember this: The earth is 4.5 billion years old. In that time, billions of specieses have died out, there have been a dosen mass extinctions, several ice ages, and then, we humans came to be, and for 6 million years we have been around, and you, yes you, were born in that spec of sand that is the micro time gap where the lord of the rings were written and made into films. So, it ain't that bad. :)
In Arabic it reads: "من البحر العظيم، أتيت إلى الأرض الوسطى. في هذه الأرض سأعيش، انا واحفادي، إلى نهاية العالم" " min albahr aladhim, Ana itait ela Al ardh Al wusta. Fi hadhih Al Ardh sa'aish, Ana wa'ahfadi, ela nihayat ala'alam."
