His grips are phenomenal. He just sets up the lower half and hammers his grips to ippons. A lot of times Japanese judokas are super quick on the bottom half making the hands a bit easier. Maybe I’m wrong, but he seems to have superior grip/hand follow through that opponents are not expecting. 😮

His style looks a bit "unmatured, unexpirienced" (I don't know the words), but so were his opponents. He has a great leg strength to his advantage.

The Osoto-Gari counter was a thing of beauty, it even looked like he baited it and was 3 steps ahead... a sick human being

He certainly looks like he has potential to become a champ. Looks to have limited variety of throws at this stage, but this will grow with more experience and competitions.

Arai is a super judoka, i've seen him in teams competitions in Japan aswell. He rarely loses. Had been super cool to see arai in Paris olympics. Btw: When is your legendary ono shohei series pt3 coming out? 😄

I still think Iida is the one that's going to the Olympics. Arai is very good. Hope he does well at the Kodokan.

Quite surprising to see a Japanese judoka trying to confort his opponent at the end. Very often, I don't like these attitudes, emphazing the defeat of the opponent. Here, it seems made in a different way, but still, I think a respectful bow at the end is enough.

IJF should make Fantasy Judo. Something like you get x credits and each judoka from different categories should cost x credits based on their WRL or seeding, and you get a number of points if your competitor wins a medal. E.g. I would bet all my money on Ono or Lombardo
