"Every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing."

Arang Kel is a picturesque village and a popular tourist spot in the Neelam valley in Kashmir. Located at an altitude of over 8,300 feet above the sea level, the village of Arang Kel is located on a mountain top opposite Kel, with a river and a valley separating the two. From Kel I took the cable car to get to the other side. From there hiked for about an hour to reach the hilltop . If it wasn’t for my wee supportive tour guide-Bilawal - I would have never made it to Arangkel hilltop. A few times when I was ready to quit and go back he encouraged me to continue saying you can do it and you can’t come all this way and not see the beautiful Arangkel village.Children like Bilawal have to work to help their parents supplement the household income. However I was delighted to know he does go to school and works as a tour guide only at the weekends or during school holidays.
There is an influx of tourists to this tiny area which poses a real risk of damage to the beautiful landscape and the inhabitants of this area unless the tourists are educated about responsible tourism and some control is in place for its preservation.
