I understand Japanese and I know a lot of information about the author and how he wanted the film to be portrayed and trust me, the gay/romantic overtones are absolutely intended. Anyone who actually understands Japanese and watches this movie "Yagi ga suki yansu" can't deny it. It's seems that you are the one who hasn't done appropriate cultural research to understand this film. The guide book for this movie also uses an uncommon phrase in the title for "story" that can also mean "love story".
Woah I didn't know that! Thank you for sharing Gabu and Mei's friendship was so sweet I wouldn't help but call it a "love" story, the author wrote it very well. May they live happily ever after.
This might be one of the best movies about friendship or one of the most beautiful love story - either way, I don't care which one it is, this movie is AWESOME.
The dedication these two have for eachother is amazing! Also Mei’s face when thinking of how Gabu will protect him is Cuuuute! Good job on protecting your “friend” Gabu!!!
that's a shame!:T i planned dressing up as Kurloz and going out somewhere, but then i got lazy and just stayed at home, watching TV, with my full cosplay on X'3
I'm pretty sure the "romantic" implications (intentional by writers or not) concerning Mei and Gabu's relationship usually just go right over those little kiddie's heads. In their minds: Gabu and Mei = BEST FRIENDS IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD Devotion knows no bounds XD
Everyone is talking about how gay the two characters are but not how Mei just let a bunch of his friends die. Not a single word about it either. Not "why me" not anything. Gabu didn't care about any of the sheep/goats either. They aren't really changing each other's perspectives, they're just kinda selfish. they're p cute though
I get where you're coming from. It's one of the major flaws of the film. What makes it worse is that this isn't the only selfish thing Mei has done. Mii and Tap seemed willing enough to risk their lives for his safety, but Mei just lets them run away under the impression that they've left him to die. He could've just excused himself from Gabu to assure them that he was still breathing.
@@GuardianTiger That, and I think Mei's just smart enough to be glad that at least he's alive; it's important to note that 1) goat herds like Mei's experience wolf attacks all the time, so they should at least be mentally prepared to lose some of their own (heck, Mei's own friends only seemed concerned about him when they left him behind because of what it would do to his grandmother if they didn't check that he was okay), and 2) I don't think those goats that the wolves attacked actually even _were_ Mei's friends, they seemed like they were from a different herd than Mei, Mii and Tap's herd (the wolves even talk about how few goats venture to that area, and the very next scene after this with the old lady goat heavily implies that the goats attacked there weren't the same herd as Mei's, and Mei himself even only went there because of Gabu's invite rather than thinking of going there himself). In short, Mei didn't have to worry about his friends dying because they were actually from an entirely different group, and he's just grateful that he was able to survive it period.
Also, relationships in Japan (at least as a general rule) tend to be quite a bit more reserved then say in Europe, so delving into the culture only makes Gabu and Mei's relationship more marked, not more ordinary.
darn cuute... going on date on hills, seeing moon and such... I'm shipping but this sail will burn oh god... and narimiya's cute voice is makin it worse OH GOD ! this is supposed to be for kids OH GOD!!!!
@subanimehd2 Tv Tropes says it's "Heterosexual Life Partners." If you have watched House M.D, you can see how House and Wilson are pretty big friends in a weird way.
Ok, just to let u know...... I F*CKIN" KNOW THIS ALREADY!!!!! SO LEAVE THE FREAKIN" SUBJECT ALONE!!!!!! Oh, by the way, I LUV this anime! One of my absolute favs. ;D Thanx for uploading! XD
Mei is a male. I haven't heard his voice in the English Dub, and really, I don't care to.. But in the books, in this movie, and as a character, he is a male.
@GoatGirlSings To me, it looked like an idiot asking an idiotic question. Detecting sarcasm or jokes via text isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, especially when it wasn't cleverly worded.
good to know I am not lone. This is the first time I've ever seen this and my first thoughts where that I wanted to ship those two. But that said, they are animal in form and so 'kissing' in the human sense would look weird anyways. Do they lick each other at all?
Yuppie, so: Yaoi practically is gay porn anime/manga, so this movie is not yaoi. Shounen-ai in the other hand is a genre of manga/anime that is about love between boys with no porn or fucking, just generally about love and relationship. This movie can't be considered as yaoi or shounen-ai, for there's no sexual or romantic themes in it. . . It's just a cute story of a friendship between two completely different individuals. Very, very far away from yaoi, shounen-ai or anything like that.
Maybe because it seems weird that these realistically-built animals are walking on two. If they were in a more cartoony style, it might seem less strange.
Eh, they're just friends. Not sure why there has to be any sexual or romantic underlying message. I guess I should stop being friends with people in case other people think I'm secretly boning them.
This always gets me yelled at, but yaoi fans tend to 'see' things that aren't really there. Plus, most people writing in English on this site haven't delved into the culture enough to see how the friendship relationships work. To an outsider from many cultures, they may see homosexual or sexual undertones when to those from inside the culture don't see any such thing.
wow, im one of the most perverted guys around lol but come on people, i didn't even think of their friendship being yaoi lol its not romance its bromance, almost the same but without gay tendencies XD
Jsus Christ how can you even get any sexual vibes from this, arguing about their sexuality and all, what the hell is wrong with you people. It is about pure friendship, for crying our loud.
