I just subscribed, your videos have the most detailed info. 👍💚 Merry Christmas Swedish plant guy and to your team out there, mabuhay from the Philippines.
"The name of the genus is derived from Arauco, the name of a district in southern Chile where the trees were first discovered." Yeah, I'm from Chile xD. Feliz Navidad, Swedish Plantguys!
Can you please do a video on ferns? And how to keep them alive. I love blue star ferns but they don't love me, and they are supposed to be one of the easier ferns to keep. Do they perfer selfwatering pots or is it a higher humidity they want?
Hi there! I absolutely love your videos! I've learned so much from them. Thank you. Question: have you done or could you do a video about Rabbit Foot Fern? I have one that I inherited. The estimated age is about 25-30 years old. It had NEVER been repotted and had burst it's plastic pot. So, I repotted it. It almost died. This was about 9 months ago it has the fuzzy rhizomes but very few fronds. It keeps dropping fronds. If possible, please help. This plant means so much to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I have a small one that was doing well until today. Now it looks a bit dry (still green) and like it’s curling up. I’ve been watering it as instructed. What could be the issue?
Mine is not growing very fast….I’m thinking of repotting next spring. Currently mine has two stems in the pot.I was wondering if I should separate the stems to have a better plant. Any thoughts on that? Thanks
I have one that I bought 5 years ago at Christmas. It was probably a foot tall and now it's close to 2 ft tall. It had 4 stems and 2 of them seemed dead this summer so I repotted and took them out. It seems like they individual plants.
I am seeing centipedes inside the house after I started keeping some plants inside. How can this problem be solved? I don't want to move my plants outside. I have a toddler so can't afford to have bugs inside house. Please advise
I bought mine back in 2018 and it's about 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide from branch tip to branch tip. I re-potted as soon as I bought it so it has room to grow, paced it in front of a south facing pitcher window where it can get full sun, closed the vent located above it, kept watered and the basin full of water to keep the humidity up, squirt it down with a water bottle on occasion, fed it every 6 months with a few fertilizer sticks, and trim off any dead limbs that I spot. I guess, it also helps that I placed it next to my computer station and I', all the time breathing on it. That is it and it's taking over my dining room. I just I wish I had more room because the poor is cramped but it has fresh green shoots all over it (Including the top) despite it being cramped
I also want to know how to care for Leyland cypress. Im not sure if my plant is going brown due to regular die back or i have done something to cause it
Merry Christmas! I just bought a Norfolk Island pine a few weeks ago. This video was perfect timing for me :) Thank you for your videos, they have helped me so much over the past couple of years :) God Jul from England
Many, if not most, of the trees being sold as Norfolk Island pines (A. heterophylla) are actually Cook pines (A. columnaris), originating on New Caledonia. There was an infamous seed mix up many decades ago during the establishment of the Hawaiian plantations where these are mass-produced.
You're absolutely right. Here in Hawaii, all the "Norfolk Island Pine trees" are actually A. columnaris. The only true A. heterophylla in the state (to my knowledge) is one old specimen at Koele lodge, on the island of Lanai.
I adore having real Christmas trees, and it's helped me a lot to learn not only about tree farm practices (and how, oddly enough, they're more environmentally friendly than plastic trees), but that there are SO many good things you can do with the trees when the holiday is over. I gave my last one (which was admittedly all the way back in 2018) to a woman with goats; but wildlife rehab centers, zoos, all sorts of places love getting Christmas trees as enrichment for the animals in their care. ...I won't lie though, I'm such a bleeding heart that I cried when I left that tree by the farm's fence and saw it getting covered in snow as I drove away. It felt like I was abandoning it. 😅😂 ANYWAY. I still agree with you, getting a living tree--whether NIP or a balled Christmas tree--is seriously the best option! I think a very small number of places actually let you rent trees? I heard about it once and thought it was the best thing ever.
At the Lowes, I was running my hands through the Norfolk, they are so soft. I noticed green coming off on my hand. Do they paint these to make them look greener? Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤
I used to have this plant. But we put it Inside once in the house as our Christmas tree ,after a few days it's dead. They love sun. ❤ it was planted in a pot for 4 yrs then.
