How do you stop the tree from falling over once it's been planted and the root structure hasn't redeveloped as yet? Really keen to understand more about this!

I would be surprised if the palm survived this. The rootball should be several times larger for the size of the plant. I think that this is done only because cutting down the palm sounds worse than transplanting it, but the end result is the same.
Obviously the palms survive this ordeal. Do you really think they'd do this if they weren't almost 100% positive the palm would be fine? Think about it! Seriously though, this palm, has a small and compact root ball naturally. Most palms actually have very compact root balls. This is why in LA, for example, you see those extremely tall and skinny palms (Washingtonia robusta) and not in say, Florida. Florida has so many windy thunderstorms, not too mention hurricanes, and that palm just topples over. Because the root system is so small and compact. That palm can be 100-feet-tall, with a root ball barely 5% its size. And the root system for this palm in the video (Phoenix c.) is similar. In fact, compare LA to Florida. For the same species of palm, the ones in LA get much, much taller. Less wind, much fewer storms, no hurricanes, et cetera. Sorry for the palm lecture. I'm sure you don't care. I just like palm talk. Ha!
Yes, I think that in many cases transplanting would be done even if there is zero chance of survival. For political reasons. However, you seem to know what you are talking about so now I somewhat believe that these palms may survive. Too bad that there is no follow-up video from a few years later.
Mick Obrien I like palm tree talk too. But I always thought they had a deep root tap so they bend but don't topple over like that of a regular tree that have widespread shallower roots.

@@user2144 it seems a shame to take the palm trees from residential areas. Where i live it is the opposite. People take palm trees from rural areas where they are tall to take care of for fruit and plant them in urban areas in rows. They have many advantages over other trees in the cities, they grow strait, they root down as opposed to the side, if you cut the bunches on time they don't make a big mess, the older ones don't produce shoots, and lets face it, where do you need the clean air trees produce? Where there are people.

Nurseries fail to do an important and simple thing to avoid losing trees to shock. They fail to flag the south side of the tree before they dig it up. If you flag the south side of the tree before you dig it up and are careful to keep that orientation when you plant it you will suffer a lot fewer deaths due to shock. ..

No Brasil acho que não tem essa máquina, uma vez foi vendido vários coqueiros /palmeiras da propriedade da empresa e utilizaram retroescavadeira para cavar e um munck para retirar e transportar, Aracoiaba da Serra Brasil
domy jorge le but de cette machine est de prélever le palmier 🌴 AVEC SES RACINES. Elles n’ont pas été perturbées. Par contre va-t-il apprécier son nouvel environnement , nouvelle exposition nouvelle luminosité si ya un changement des fois les plantes n aiment pas ça.

Unfortunately this only works in areas with no/weak rocks. Try doing this in my back yard where the ground is loaded with blue rocks. Those blades will be destroyed.
كهذه الالة يجب على المقاطعات الترابية بالمغرب ان تتوفر لذيها .على الاقل ان تحتوي كل مدينة عن واحدة منها اما المدن الكبرى يجب ان تمتلك منها كل عمالة على واحدة .كما يجب الزام المقاولات التي تكسب الرهان في التدبير المفوض للاغراس ان تتوفر على مثل هذه الالة .
MrAlwaysright1980 if you're careful not to destroy too many roots, plant in soil with good drainage and water appropriately then it'll be fine, especially since they keep so much of the original soil on the roots so it's more comfortable than it would be if the did it by hand.
