After a few solid days of effort, Arc'teryx team athlete, Jonathan Siegrist sent a new line at Red River Gorge, naming it "24 Karats", and at the grade of 5.14c, it is one of America's hardest sport climbs.

I love how he climbed the entire route without chalking his hands, instead just wiping them on his pants and blowing on them, and then chalks up to fist bump the person behind the camera at the anchors!

He clearly has his priorities in order. The physical crux might be over, but he still doesn't wanna fall at the mental crux.

This was unbelievable, way more interesting to watch than some of the harder climbs on youtube. I definitely agree with the comments, he really made that look beautiful.

Jonathan siegrist is my favorite climber and is extremely inspiring to me. I'd love to see him come down for rocktoberfest in 2014. There's a whole new area opening up and I think it would be cool to see him come and put up some more hard lines.

Haha, thanks for the response - and I was one step ahead! I recognized him and gave him a shout and it was a delightfully pleasant experience for sure

This is one of my favourite things about climbing: Finding a cool route or problem near your limit, then wiring in the sequence so that the send ends up being really clean. Honestly it's no surprise that he made it look so clean, the holds are small and fingery enough that there's not much room to muscle through it, it's the kind of climb that requires a lot of technique and precision. You can see in the crux section how he adjusts his grip on every hold until it's just right before moving off.

I like how he clips the anchor then chalks up again

That's awesome. Make sure you say hi to JStar for us the next time you see him at the gym - he's a great guy.

Hey, this route is a great example that this distinction is needed! Red Point here means adding some mental value to the technical problem! Great climb anyway, props!

jonathan's line's may not be the hardest climbs out there today (even though anything is the 14 range is mental and ill never get close to that grade) but he has a better eye for beautiful lines then any other climber I've come across. great style, perfect movement, beautiful lines. I would rather watch him climb any day of the week over anyone else climbing 5.15 whatever.

i see this guy at the gym occasionally, where he looks like a typical, pretty damn strong boulderer. But to then see him climb this route goes to show how badly gym climbing/bouldering ability represents sport climbing skill. he turns into a different kind of beast here! beautiful line climbed with strength and style, heavy props to JS!

Technically yes, but most people don't make that distinction anymore. The term "pink-pointing" has become obsolete. I'm just throwing a number out here, but I'd guess that about 99% of all hard sport climbing routes are "redpointed" with the quickdraws in place nowadays. ^SM

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't pink pointing, or at least shouldn't it, really only have to do with trad-climbing where the ethics and technique behind how you place your pro is important?

At 3:05 why does he clip with the rope around the inside of his right arm and not the outside? Seems like the outside would be more efficient...
