Saw Merle and Bonnie in Mpls. Minn. in 1968 at The Flame. Had a beer with then and watched as he began to write “Once I lived a life of wine and roses” Enormous talent!
Saw him at Billy Bobs about six months before he passed, and it was awesome. The show was a festival, and I got to shake the hand of one of the Steel Drivers after his side stage performance. This was right before he got HUGE. Oddly enough, I was more excited to see Corb Lund at the time than to meet Chris Stapleton.
Merle Haggard is such great singer and song writer. Love all his music, such great talent. His contribution to the music world will always be missed. RIP Merle Haggard. God bless the family.
