For people just arriving: SNK decided to make a Double Dragon fighting game, but forgot to actually contact Techmo about it before they started. To their surprise, they didn't get permission for using the license. So, they just took the "Lee" off Billy and Jimmy and replaced a single o in "Abobo" with a u. It is now their totally original product, do not steal.
Matrimele was the shit back in the day. I totally agree with you. I hope these two games (rage of dragon and Matrimelee will get the honor and attention they deserve).

The fact this game was almost a Double Dragon licensed game made me love it even more. I didn't find this out until I was about 14-15 when I did research on it. After learning that this game became one of my favorites of all time.
@@ikagura this is an unofficial Double Dragon game that was made by a Mexican developer. Million, who owned the rights to Double Dragon at the time, refused to license it to them.
Man, all this time & I never saw this game. I'm a fan of SNK & Double Dragon- Lots of cool characters; read up on their backstories- now to see their playthroughs (if they're around). You know it's old-school when you need to enter your initials to continue at the end. Thanks for posting!
The dodge system in this game seems to be pretty cool because it's a fusion of KOF 94/95 dodge with KOF 96+ roll. AB = Dodge AB + forward/back = Roll forward/back This is what SNK should have done with KOF 96 and later KOF games.
@JIMPACHRAL I just read up on this game, those are not Billy and Jimmy Lee from the Double Dragon games (these characters are named Billy and Jimmy Lewis) but they were originally planned to be the Lee brothers. This game was supposed to be a Double Dragon fighting game, but they were unable to get the rights to do so.
@cubex55 It's actually different characters. They couldn't obtain the rights for Double Dragon so the developers had to rename the game and slightly alter the characters.
It's from the same developer as the modern Power Instinct games, Noise Factory. They made this, and then they made Matrimelee, with a few of the characters from Rage appearing in Matrimelee as mid-bosses.

I remember that I saw in this comment section about a user saying that “this game is so bad because it’s made by Mexicans” and how he said that “he only play Japanese games” but this game really looks good to me and that man had no respect in video game industry, anyone can make games no matter the ethnic race they are, we all love games, they really want to make games, I love games too, but I wish there was no discriminatory behavior against this game and the gaming industry in Mexico and everyone ❤️🧡💛💚💙🤎 (There’s no pixel hearts as emojis so I had to put normal hearts, sorry)
Evoga tried to make a sequel of Double Dragon with this game but they couldn´t get the rights, so basically this game doesn´t have any relation with the franchise...in terms of copyright.
This game is amazing, I just wish it had gameplay mechanics like Garou MOTW, the gameplay is still great though. Hopefully a sequel will continue the story and a company can take evoga and noise factory's place.
It was SUPPOSED to be an official game based on the movie to some degree but a deal fell through.. I think they kept the overtures, changed it up a bit and hey presto - the Neo Geo already had a Double Dragon fighter so it wasn't total robbery (and besides its a great late Neo Geo game!) :)
Dude, I spent over $300 on this game when it first came out, then it dropped to $80 like a month later...lol. At least some of the characters made it to Matrimelee
This is a lovely looking little game and great sound effects, the other Double Dragon fighter on the Neo Geo is great as well. Very underated, it has a sort of Alpha/SF III look to it, and I presume it is made by the Matrimelee team?

Who voices Jimmy? He sounds very familiar, especially when he does that flaming uppercut. The soundbyte sounds just like one I’ve heard from another fighting game but I can’t place it. ANDY BOGARD. That’s who he sounds like! The voice clip of his flaming uppercut sounds almost the same as when Andy says “Shoryuudan!”

SNK and G-Mode were working together on an uncanon cross-over cell phone game, Garou Densetsu VS. Fighter's History Dynamite, while using Japan's most popular Fighter's History series character, Makoto Mizoguchi, as a special guest in KOF Maximum Impact: Regulation A, to advertise the cell phone game. G-Mode still holds the rights to the Fighter's History franchise.

Good job on taking down Johann on the first attempt. He's by far one of the cheapest bosses ever appeared on Neo Geo fighting game (and fighting games in general) and that's not an easy feat to achieve.
The only GBA Double Dragon I know of is the one made by Million, which was comprised of former Technos guys, I'd hardly call them second rate. It's a beat em up that took the best of DD1 and 2 arcades and mashed them together. You want to talk about a bad DD game, try Double Dragon V The Shadow Falls from Tradewest, which didn't even get touched by Technos.
The cpu on this game in UNIBIOS is absolutely RELENTLESS. I dunno maybe I'm just bad at it but it is one of the most punishing fighters I've ever played if you make a mistake
It's until now that it occurred to me to search for this game in the channel, I've always wanted to watch all the later levels. See, the gameplay looks way too complicated for the casual gamer and I'm also not too fond of one-on-one fighters, but as this game has excellent production values and was going to be an installment of one of my all time favorite game series, Double Dragon, I knew I had to watch a complete run of the game someday. :) As always, great playthrough, Schlauchi.
+XxYataxX This was supposed to be a Double Dragon game but somewhere down the line, they changed it..though at least Billy, Jimmy and Abobo made it through.
+SMAXZO it was changed because the company didn't get the copy rights for double dragon and it's characters so in a way these people are all original characters
For Arcade games it's all about credits so you don't have to use states just add lots of credits and keep on fighting and edit it down into your winning turns in a video editor.

@JIMPACHRAL Unfortunately, Evoga couldn't get the "intellectual rights" to the official Dragons, so the ones in this game are just a homage. Personally, I would've loved to see the real Dragons in a fighting game.
