My local arcade had this game, and it happened to have its volume turned up high. The first time I put a quarter in, I knew this game wasn't joking around when it blared that GLORIOUS opening music through its speakers. I still get goosebumps when I hear it. Too bad it isn't there anymore...at least they still have OutRunners.
@@nickdpritchard221 1989 it's more eighties than nothing ! Even the first years of the 90's were the 80's, the real nineties didn't begin until like 1993.
I would disagree with that. In 1990/91 we saw the debut of multiple new figureheads in videogames, music and the arts that would define the decade. The 1990’s were certainly at full steam by 1991.
Man, I sank sooooo much money into these machines, especially the sit-down cabinets. I must have singlehandedly paid the arcade's electric bill with the criminal amounts of money I lost to this game alone. This brought me back! Now, where's Power Drift?!
Ah, Turbo Outrun. The game that gave a bad name to American interstates, high-performance engine modifications, and Ferarri passengers. This wasn't too popular where I lived, and I don't remember anyone ever getting very far. Keeping the rubber side down in the original Outrun was hard enough; add the Turbo mechanic and _very_ pushy traffic and you have a recipe for continuous vehicular manglings. If you ask me, the fact that the white car driver never suffered these mishaps was more than enough reason to stick with him! Honestly, the thing I remember most fondly about this is having more music to select in Special Tours.
Brings back memories, Every other day after highschool, right to the coney island arcade with my quarters. This game, afterburner, super hangon, space harrier, gauntlet, strider. dragonslair 2 and cobra command.
I loved this game in the arcades in early '90s. It was the only original arcade in my town, the rest were some kind of bootlegs (the whole 'outfit' was the same, the owner changed just games, most of them had only 3 buttons, which caused games like Street Fighter a little more difficult than they should be - there was no copyrights in my country at the time, so they could do anything). Turbo OutRun had car-case with steering wheel, pedals, gear shift bar and was AWESOME! Thanks for the upload!
I was just able to beat the sega genesis port (much much worse looking, this arcade version looks awesome) of this game on an emulator for the first time after 30 or so tries. It's actually shocking how fun the old school outrun games are to play. I played Outrun 2 on a PS2 emulator and it looks much better but not nearly as fun somehow. The only reason I can think of for not having done Outrun 3 already after 20 years is that Ferrari is demanding too much money, but if that's the case, screw Ferrari, just do another car. I would prefer to see a 911 anyway.
Dude, enjoy the game for what it is A VIDEO GAME. It is suppose to be a fun racing game. Who cares about geographical errors. Turbo Outrun absolute rocks!!!. Most definitely an upgrade to the original Out Run. Great gameplay and rocking music.
+HotRodMario If you were lucky, you'd get "I LOVE YOU" message, a kiss and 1 million bonus(?), but i RARELY got this, plus she stays in the car for that stage, while Mr Porsche crys.....
If you have the girl in your car, and you beat the guy in the Porsche, at the beggining of the next stage you will get the "I love you!" Bonus. If he beats you, the girl will leave your car, and if you beat him, the girl will come back for you.
In stage 4, 8 12, if you won against the Porsche, girlfriend loves you and you get a bonus point. Stage 5: 1000000 pts Stage 9: 2000000 pts Stage 13: 3000000 pts
Dear SEGA, As much as I loved the entire OutRun franchise, Please consider porting this game to the Nintendo Switch as part of the SEGA AGES for series 2.
Loved this game.....used to always play it in the arcade moving from side to side in the big hydraulic moving car 🚗, getting this on an Arcade 1up Arcade cabinet ❤
finished this at the local arcade a couple of times without having to continue.... such great memories.... and for some reason each time I would make one of the top scores in this or any other game I would put "ass" or "ice" as my initials...
3:53 Choosing the Hi-Power Engine? Big mistake, I choose the Hi-Grip tire in case of sharp turns then when I reach Miami I choose the special turbo and last and not least when I reach Oklahoma to LA I choose the Hi-Power Engine
I think people would like to watch a longplay of Rad Mobile. I finished this game a few times with only one credit. It's one of the very best old school racing games ever made, and the father of NFS. Also, it was in this game that Sonic appeared for the first time (as your car's pendant).
better late than never to correct these oversights, Nail Strafer! I just hope 15+ years or so were enough for SEGA to learn their US geography & topography, along with that of other nations out there.
Cool man! well, you like the original better and i like Turbo Outrun much more. Outrunners was a great game and better than the first two. We can both agree on that one :)
I remember this game I played it on both arcade and Sega Mega Drive and I think the car in this game is The Ferrari F40 if I'm not mistaken and his opponent is driving a Porsche 959
oh, don't worry 'bout that! I'm quite aware of it. it is, despite that little quirk, a solid racer... maybe not as good as the original, and (this is only my opinion, no need to start a war over it) nowhere near as grand as Outrunners, but it's one of SEGA's coolest offerings from back in the good old Age Of Arcades.
Is it me or did the frame-rate in this chug a lot more then it did in the original? Methinks the Outrun hardware could not handle the additional visual FX in Turbo at a consistent frame-rate. Good follow-up that I loved playing the sitdown version of in Flushing, Queens way back in the day. In retrospect, the control, frame-rate and level design are lacking compared to the original.
