I used to play this with my nephew, and, being seasoned with this game, I protected him most of the time and gave most of the gold and foods to him. Such a great uncle i am
Great game and literally flawless gameplay. In my opinion, Capcom were simply the best when it came to beat 'em ups during the late 80s, early 90s. Both side-scrolling and 1v1. There were other big guns back then too but no-one touched Capcom after Final Fight and Street Fighter 2 respectively. Although Technõs' Double Dragon will forever be founder and the great grandfather of them all.
This is why this is one of my favorite beat em ups period. Like the gold pieces and the money aren't just pointless score boosts, they actively make your character stronger and more dangerous and the game compensates for that by throwing harder enemies at you if you level up too early
I loved leveling up and seeing your knight's mundane armor and sword/axe grow in size and become shining silver and gold. Very much like The King of Dragons and Golden Axe. Great times, playing with friends and shoving quarter after quarter into the machines.
Always cut big treasures and big food. You'll get more points and/or health that way. This game is the rare exception where the whole is NOT greater than the sum of its parts.
lol, the music of Knights of the Round was far better than Warriors of Fate in which one could hardly listen to what the game was playing in the background. it mimicked western-style music so obvious that one could identify organ sounds on many occasions/stages, such as the king's castle, etc, etc. One could hear this kind of organ sounds in some other games released back in the 90s'. For example, Final Fantasy 6, which was released on Super Nintendo. It was a common phenomenon at the time. Remember that there was an electronic keyboard boom in the 90s as well that was related to mimic the biggest instruments in the world, organs. Back to the BGM, on the contrary, the BGM of Warriors of Fate was just a mess. It couldn't be called music, maybe the worst BGM I had listened to at the moment. It literally sounded like a Chinese-style opera, lol, imagine, a storyteller was telling a story of "东风吹,战鼓擂,现在世上谁怕谁","打,狠狠打!",于是 一通乱战,史称“三国志/演义"😂😂😂; So one could bearly hear any pleasing piece in the BGM, especially in a noisy arcade game center. It could be the reason why Capcom introduced or stressed sound effects in the 16bit sound source that the game boards could offer, such as attention-drawing voice acting, powerful drums, sounds of swords slashing flesh, and hammers crushing enemies' body, etc, etc. But, the gameplaying system of Warriors of Fate was far more advanced, deeper than Knights of the Round, in which Capcom embedded many designs of the newest, most successful, epoch-making game they developed ever in the 90s', Street Fighter 2. On the contrary again, the most useful gameplaying strategy in Knights of the Round was normal attacks(plain A/attack), which wasn't too far from Final Fight, the originator of beat 'em up games.
This guy was incredibly competent already, but when he got to 10:29 and discovered he could turn his horse to face backwards as well as forwards... then he was unstoppable
the only beat em ups that look gorgeous to this day are the ones from capcom! they made these with such care! king of dragons... final fight... captain comando... cadilacs and dinosaurs... punisher... theyre classics that will never fade!
King of Dragons was lame, Punisher wasn't much better while Capt Commando was good but still wouldn't say it's the same level as this one, never mind Final Fight or Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
@@Pythoner these games paved the standard for beat em ups! What are the good ones for you! Don't say streets of rage because they come after the final fight success, although they stand out because of the soundtrack.
@@ManelRuivo If you read my post properly then you'd indeed realize that I hold Final Fight and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs in very high regard, with Knights of the Round getting an honorable mention. As for others, in no particular order; TMNT: Turtles in Time, Streets of Rage series, Die Hard Arcade, Batman Arkham Asylum, Golden Axe series, Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara, Sengoku series, Warriors of Fate, Splatterhouse 3, Captain America & the Avengers
The Engrish in the opening is brilliant. "Only the Holy Grail can release this world from attain the chaos. You should be able to find it because you were able to sacred sword." It's like a Polandball comic or something.
Немања Грочић Hehe, but I thought that misspelling might have been "accurate" just because I heard a long time ago there were no rules for spelling in English. Just grammar. WHICH THIS GAME DOES NOT HAVE, LOL! XD lol the "Engrish".
These games always bring me back to my childhood, playing video games(arcad in this particular case) was my addiction and I was so good that I bit almost all of them(the ones I liked back then) only with one coin, especially since I didn't have money and I would hardly earn 1 coin. I long for that era where everything was simple but full of joy ^_^
@@BlackPhoenix-99 games never look hard when you're watching someone who has played a lot of it and is very good at it. i've been playing the snes version on normal and have yet to beat it. it gives you 18 lives but some of the bosses are very tough and eat through those lives.
@@gchijioke12 I'm inclined to agree! At Wal-Mart, they're actually selling an actual arcade cabinets of TMNT by Konami, for $400. I'd say that's staying power!
Because all the development teams that used to make great games like this all split up and/or retired. Video game companies are starting to just become hollow labels as all the people originally associated with them are fading away. Its why most companies don't seem to be as good anymore.
at first i would ask why he keeps attacking the treasure chests even by accident. But nevermind, i did the math. 3 gold bags = 420 points, which is better than the chest's 400 points. So.. keep slashing away slash happy.
In this game; Parceval with beard, reminds me a lot to the old Kratos. Is in physically aspect, very similar to him. 38:05 Arthur: Excalibur, hope! Rest of the Knights: Hope!
"Only the holy grail can release this world from attain the chaos. You should be able to find it because you were able to sacred sword. Help each other and find it, brave men!"
LOL.... "Diffence".... I never realized how many grammatical errors were in this game. "You should be able to find it because you were able to sacred sword" What is that? Some kind of dance?
This was my first exposure to the Arthurian legend as a kid, so ever since then whenever I see a new adaptation I wonder why is Lancelot not a blonde chad or why are they not fighting samurais and giant robots.
wow.. i used to play this in arcades on fairs. :D completely forgot about this beauty. glad i dont have to lose guilders anylonger to see the next level :D
Played the heck out of this game when there was an arcade at the college I went to back in the day before they remodeled the student union building and demolished the arcade and bowling alley there. Lots of good memories playing this game. The music takes me back to freshman year and playing this a lot along with the Spawn arcade game.
I loved this game - they had it in my local leisure centre. However Americans, be thankful you only had to pay a quarter per credit. We had to pay A POUND PER CREDIT (that's like 2 dollars)!
sorry but i want to say this a horrbile Longplay, did you know is there a somthing to do here in 8:20 to get 2xUP ?? here anoter 1UP on 8:59 , and If my memory serves me correctly there is 2 UP too on 18:50.
As a fan of Arthurian Legend, I always took great pleasure in stepping into the shoes of Bishounen Anime Lancelot, as he put the numerous scoundrels of Britannia to the sword. Always a pleasure to watch playthroughs of these games. Warms an old man's heart, it does.
+TheBlackPigeon To be fair, Ye Olde Brittania had a great many scoundrel to put to the sword even without that nefarious Garibaldi's influence. Though I'm not quite sure where in the tales said nefarious villain contracted a hired hand from the Far East...
If you like anime mixed with dark medieval fantasy, _Berserk_ might be right for you. Unfortunately the author has recently passed away, leaving the work unfinished.
I have played this game as a child so often. Did it often to the last level, but the boss I never defeated. Asked me as a child what probably comes after, did not know that he was the end boss. Respect!!!! Well done!!!
DIFFENCE... DEFENSIVE POWER. Who was smoking joints when they spell checked? Damn engrish and those bloody nublets at trying to translate their own Japanese.
If only I had videos like these as a kid I could have saved THOUSANDS at the arcade, of course I would've missed out on that sticky joystick and blaringly loud atmosphere.
Yea, we used to have to sneak into bars to play the cocktail versions of some games. Those were the days; when you had to go OUTSIDE to play video games!
