@@cellprocessing6832 Played a lot of Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution back in the PS1 days... drifting with the standard D-pad only controller was interesting 😏
I’m holding out hope for a Crazy Taxi sit down cab eventually. Also, the fact that they're now doing PS1-era Namco cabs, pedals, and they're doing lightgun stuff with T2, Time Crisis is only a matter of...well...time.
Unfortunately, Sega's been really difficult to work with for these arcade machines. A1up wanted to do a Daytona USA / Sega Rally, but just gave up because of all the red tape. Same reason why Quarter Scale have never released a Sega machine. Namco are by far the most open.
@@Larry Where did u hear this? Never heard this rumor. Only games ive heard turned down were nfl blitz due to late hits (when nba jam was released) and double dragon (first nba jam photo leak had nba jam front and center with double dragon on the left barely in the photo) a1up has ironed out the issues with the nfl and now theres a prototype of double dragon 2 machine in florida so possibly the license holders Changed their minds? Arcade1up also dropped an announcement for a kof a1up which never dropped. There was a rumor which i cant cofirm if it was credible because i dont remember if an insider gave us this nugget but it was said snk was unhappy about the announcement being made public before the deal was confirmed. I dont believe that because they came out with their own better machine. Outside of those 3 leaks ive seen nothing else nor seen it on youtube by any influencers.
@@chickenfkeryay im friends with another of these small arcade manufacturers and theyve said of their difficulties of working with sega, specifically sega japan
Arcade1Up is closing in on the 32 bit games era. Hope we will get cabinet for some of the polygon classics such as a cabinet with Virtua Fighter 1 thru 3. A Tekken cabinet with Tekken 1 thru 3, House of the Dead cabinet, Time Crisis cabinet and Sould Edge cabinet.
Looks like they’ve defiantly taking the racing cabs in the right direction. Now just need them to add a sit down version and link capabilities and I’m sold.
I agree, but it's really impossible not to look like an overgrown man-child in the sit down versions of these racing cabs. I mean, if it's for the kids, sure, but I'd be really embarrassed for my spouse to walk in and see me sitting on that 3/4 scale seat looking like Billy Madison
i’m 100% on board with local link by the time daytona comes out, but honestly i think standup is the way to go for these. maybe a pro driving cabinet with a better sit down experience?
Grand review, don't mind Ridge Racer but if Arcade 1up released another Sega racer cab I would be on for that.Imagine Virtua Racing, Daytona and Sega Rally Championship in one cabinet
@@alphatrion100 Ace Driver also isn't made by Sega. It's made by Namco. The OP said SEGA RACER CABINET. So let's all put random opinions out for no reason. Vanilla is a much better flavor than chocolate. Labradors are much smarter dogs than chihuahuas. And dirty is much dirtier than bleach.
@@zmonkey111 @A Train But the arcade1up already has acedriver on it. Also: Sega has an arcade game called indy500 wich comes close. Also alot less primitive than virtua racing
Nice review. You are spot on with the review. I was in 1st on one of the Victory Lap tracks and still ran out of time before completion. The games are hard. On the RR titles on sharp turns I typically release the gas pedal, turn sharp and hit the gas to drift through them. It’s a blast. Doesn’t work on the Ace Driver games. Give it a shot.
Great review. Answered alot of questions I had about the cabinet. Thanks Pdubs. I have the cab coming this week so I'll see you on the leaderboards 🏁 🏎
PDubs, first, hope you and your family are on the mend.....and second, based on this review, I took advantage of Best Buy's $299 deal on Ridge Racer and scooped it up! Really appreciate your content!
Just took advantage of that deal myself! Used this channel to decide between this and T2. Can't justify T2 over this one, and I already have The Simpsons. Hope you enjoy!
Solid Review PDubs! This could potentially be best racing cab we get. Daytona is a huge one, but to replicate what we had in the arcade as far as the sit down experience expecially the version with the car that physically moves is impossibility. I can’t think of a better racing title than Ridge Racer other than Daytona either.
@@PDubsArcadeLoft there's not to many out there tbh lol. Plus I really want a driving cab with better graphics then outrun and this is the best ( n only ) choice I got 😅🤷♂️
I've restored a few RR sit downs and a 2 seat RR2. I had the RR1 upright once but I soon realised that RR really needs to be played sitting down (like a real car) to drive properly.
Great review, as always. I would like a new racing cabinet, but I have no nostalgia for Ridge Racer as 99% of the population got this as a PS1 game and never even saw this thing in the arcade (which was already suffering a decline). I'm looking forward to future racers, and hope they use some of these improvements and continue to nail the other issues!
Just bought this one as it went back on sale. I had the full size Ridge Racer 2 game in my home arcade but sold it after some board and monitor issues. Can't wait to get it delivered. If they would do a Daytona USA cabinet with the ability to link multiple units together like they did back in the day, that would be amazing!
Great review! I would love to see Sega Turbo (1981) released. Especially now that they have a numerical display figured out like they did on Dragons Lair. I loved that racing game with all the colorful spirits. It is a very addicting game. This was my all time favourite machine.
It’s an interesting cab design, despite being an upright cab, the side art and control panel are modelled after the sit down cab, but the marquee looks like the upright. Despite being $700 it’s probably the cheapest way to enjoy Ridge Racer 1 & 2 and Rave Racer in an arcade style cab. It’s usually $300 or more for a working System 22 stack, so trying to get all the RR games alone would be more than the price of the cab.
Tip for ridge racer.... don't down shift to go round corners. Instead let off gas for about a second then stamp on gas then turn. This initiates a pseudo power slide.. your welcome. Thats the key to getting good times.
The comment I was looking for. Yeah, he doesn't understand the physics of Ridge Racer yet. This is how to drift in RR @pdubs arcade loft. The game rewards the drifting by keeping the same speed you entered the turn throughout the turn while in that drift. Once I figured that out, my whole sense of the game changed! 🔥
The sound reminds me of the Unico MVSX. If they dropped this to $499, I think it would be worth it, but at $700, it’s not worth it-great video as always.
Great review. I love the game lineup on this one. Unfortunately not enough improvements for me to shell out the cash. If im going to play Rave Racer I want it to sound like I'm at a rave.
Looks like a beautiful cabinet, great review PDUBS as always- my only reason I wont be buying is because I can't justify a racing cabinet that isn't seated. Bought a 5inch fridge stand and put a cheap racing seat on the back of the OutRun bench and it feels like a real racing cab. Standing with a steering wheel is just odd to me personally LOL
Man I’m looking for a seat down OUTRUN but they have the Ridge Racer on sale now for 399 I wonder can I MOD it to a set down because like u said standing and racing jus don’t seem right lol 🤷🏾♂️
If they release any AM2 cabinets, I'm ALL OVER IT... A Sega racing or fighting cab.... Fighting cab could have Virtua Fighter 1-3, Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, and a goofy bonus like Sonic Fighter or Fighters Megamix (Saturn emulation is getting REALLY good)... And a racing cab with Virtua Racing, Daytona, Sega Rally, Scud Racer, and a bonus like Crazy Taxi... I would buy those in a heartbeat... The cab I want most though is Sega Star Wars Arcade Trilogy... I loved that machine...
Fantastic review as always pdubs! I'm glad you enjoyed the cab and hope they keep improving these. It will be interesting to see what comes of a racing pro cab. Time will tell. Awesome work as always and very informative. Hope all is well my friend.
Thanks for the review. Just picked this up on the Arcade1up flash sale, today. Been looking for the standup cab. Was hoping Outrun would've been included in the sale. Didn't see it.
This looks like it turned out dope! I’m still holding out for an outrun with wifi! Hope it has some of the niceties they incorporated into ridge racer.
Loved this review!!!! From the start with the music i was into it. This cab really does look great. im glad the rumble is nice, that huge step forward from out run. I am torn on getting this one as i played it in PS1 a lot but, never in the arcades.
Great review, as always! I love racers, (Built my own Daytona USA 1v1 racing cabs) and play them occasionally. This RR cab went from an absolute must buy, ( I love RR), to not now. All due to that price tag, and if I'm honest, those toy like pedals. It's just not priced friendly enough to justify the amount of play it would get. I do think A1UP did a fabulous job on the aesthetic of the cab tho, and the game selection is nice as well. Thanks for the review. I think this cab would be better priced at 499- 599. That's just my opinion ofc. Thanks again for the review!
Great Review!!! Thank You. Again with quality issues on another cab . I think 1up gone tone deaf when the community tells them about these issues . Again thank you for taking the time to let us know about the Pros and Cons.👍
Congrats on your purchase and great review. The graphics look really smooth running on the cab. That's a bummer on the speakers. I bet a logitech 2.1 setup would really boost it up.
Great Review. Im not as in love with it as I originally was. I cancelled my pre-order with Best Buy but I really want a racing cab. On the fence about re-placing my order.
Good clean review dude! I would have gotten one if they made it multiplayer. Would have really boosted the replay value over online leader boards IMO, but style wise they did well with it.
I always appreciate the reviews, PDUBS you do a great job here. It's upsetting to hear reviewers who really support A1UP always have to mention, for the $700 price tag you would hope you would get better quality. I have to hope this balance happens eventually. Either the quality for the price or the price to meet the quality.
Great review as always. Arcade1Up needs to address quality concerns with the same hardware that everyonne has issues with. Also attention to detail, they give you a rumble effect and it only works on 3 of the 5 games and the two it doesn't work on is the Cab's featured game.
Hey PDubs! First of all, your intro music really set the tone for this review! It's also really nice to see a video about a cabinet that's not crapping all over itself for problems with the cabinet - so kudos to Arcade 1up for making improvements. I doubt there will ever be a 'perfect' cabinet, because perfection is highly subjective. But this one is definitely well done and improved over past efforts. It also has loads of opportunity for modders. Personally, I do like how it's different in appearance from other cabs. I'm not the biggest fan of the stand-up marquee, but whatever. I'd slap a real X-Arcade coin door on there for sure and add better speakers and foot controls...but again, this is all personal preference. Overall, I'd say this earns an -A in my scorebook. ....now where can I get my hands on a real Spy Hunter steering wheel....lol
Great review. Loved the original sit down version of RR at the arcade. I only have space for my existing mod SF II cabinet in my man cave. Would love to have a 2nd modded cabinet with a steering wheel but those pedals are a deal breaker at the moment. Hopefully in the future Arcade 1up incorporates the pedals into the bottom of the cabinet like the original. Cheers.
Great review as always PDubs! Love the look of this cabinet and those Ridge Racer games bring back great memories. I might pick this one up, I really wish it had better sound and pedals. Thanks for the in-depth look at this cab brother!
Agreed , speakers are an easy fix but cheap pedals how long will they last ? P dub you think someone will make an aftermarket mod for quality pedal brake set up ? Thanks for review!!
Let’s hope a firmware update can fix the rumble features on the RR games. These speakers HAVE to be addressed also. Looks like a good buy regardless 👍🏻
Thanks for the review Mr. Dubs! I have the rr cab ordered and it's currently somewhere in Wisconsin. Hopefully my FedEx guy is also an ace driver so I can get it by the end of day Friday lol
@@PDubsArcadeLoft honestly Imagine having a raspberry pi in 1998! You would be the coolest kid ever! .Then your government confiscates it and you end up in solitary for life lol 😂
I hope a Crazy Taxi Arcade1up can be done! I know there’s a lot of licensing to deal with and Tower Records no longer exists (they could replace it with HMV, who were in Crazy Taxi 2!) but it would still be great!
I still love my ridge racer arcade1up, still own some of the top times on the ace driver leaderboards too. Time crisis is gonna look brilliant next to this cab.
RR 1 & 2 didn't have force feedback in the arcades so they've got this right from an authenticity point of view. But the music in Ridge Racer was just as important as the visuals. Needs good speakers to truly give justice to the works of Hosoe and Saso!
PDubs, Solid review! I know the rumble is probably better in person, but a farting cabinet is what I need :D I'm glad you like Ace Driver. I loved that one in the arcade! That game and Rave Racer is what got me intrigued about this cabinet. However, I really wanted to see a real life review before I purchased it. The biggest thing that interested me and made me consider possibly replacing my Outrun was the mention of the upgraded pedals. I paid $499 for Outrun, which I thought was steep and should've come with decent pedals, but for 700 bones, an upgraded spring is not going to cut it. I'm glad you got to experience an Arcade1up standup racing cab. Other than the pedals, the Outrun feels great as a standup cab. I remember your sitdown Outrun review and thinking how uncomfortable you must have felt; thank you for showing us the demo of that btw :) Thanks so much for the Ridge Racer review and have a great day! vgv
PDubs, One of the things I think makes you stand out most as a creator is your ability to have fun, even if it's at your expense. It feels genuine to me and I like that you aren't afraid to mix things up. Some creators fail at this, but I think you've been pretty successful. Keep throwing things at the wall, my friend :) vgv
Nice to see arcade1up getting better and better each iteration this cab looks cool but I reaaaaally want a cruisin that’s the one ide get hopefully they do that game too
Just to clarify a Playstation port is emulating a game built for a Playstation 1, these games also appeared on better hardware on the arcade and that's the software porting. It's not rude to correct you when you labeled it a Playstation port and it's not obvious as there are two versions of the games they could have included.
I'm surprised they allowed the boot test screen to be seen on Rave Racer. They seem to always hide that stuff. It looks like they're making some progress on racing cabs. I hope they can release newer Midway racers soon. A Rush cabinet would be cool but I feel that game would need forced feedback in the wheel. Sit down racing cabs with a REAL seat would be huge. I'm sure the price would also be huge.
I kept passing on Outrun and was hoping I would bite on this since it is on sale today at Best Buy for $550. But the difficulty kind of turns me off and these games don't sound as 'fun' as Outrun.
It looks good and I got it got $299.99 but I’m having buyers remorse and am thinking about returning it and holding out for another Sega racing cab, Daytona, Sega Rally Championship, Virtua Racing
Believe it or not. I beat the sit down Ridge Racer in the arcade without using the brakes. I would downshift while hitting the corners. As I beat it on one play many years ago. lol Cool review man. That cabinet looks good. Just need to put some Namco decals on it and get the sound louder with an amp and or speaker mod.
@PDubs Arcade Loft, Sub-Par (gas/brake) pedals, terrible sound and no coin door (whether functioning or not) are HUGE opportunities missed by A1Up for this cabinet. OutRun was the test case and they responded with a tepid answer; we got some steering wheel rumble on a few games (not all!) and the cabinet design is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know about you, but I don't think a majority of driving cabinets enthusiasts ( much like fighting games) are concerned with points...distance is the goal (and farthest for the fewest coins) is the goal. Maybe I'm in the minority, but if I can get through Street Fighter II Champion Edition with a (theoretical)
The thing about this machine is I don't see it doing big numbers sale wise. Ridge Racer doesn't have the same name value as other cabs they've done. I don't even recall seeing hardly any RR machines in the arcade, except one time when one had both RR2 and Daytona and everyone was flocking to the Daytona one. This machine is gonna cater best to anyone building a home arcade, or maybe a hardcore RR fan.
I was excited by the concept but I feel a bit 'meh' about it now that it's here to be honest. As a PlayStation early-adopter (who didn't even know there was an original RR cab until recently) I think I'll leave this one safe in the memory banks. Daytona would be a different matter though, given that I played it plenty in the arcade and my friend and I played it constantly at home using Dreamcast steering wheels; I would be all over that, even if it was a stand-up only machine.
Is something up with the Rave Racer intro/attract? No music by the sounds of things Game play of all games looks great, didn't think I would like Ace Driver but it looks like a good one
I know there's better racing games and I really enjoyed Ridge Racer on PS1 but what I spent the most amount of quarters on was Cruis'n the USA, Cruis'n the World and Cruis'n Exotica.
I've got one it's great, the gear shifter spring broke on me 2 weeks in. It's too tight actually do I replaced it with a slightly less tighter spring and plays fine. I feel all the springs will snap on gear shifter through use so you might want to replace it when it does too.
Definitely thinking of making this purchase. Now that you have had it for a bit, how have the pedals and shifter held up? Many of the bad reviews are about those items not holding up Thanks!
Pdubs. Great show with the dudes friday ! I like Jason on the show alot. Hope you do more with him.RR dropped to $549. Wondering how you are liking yours after a few months and if youd still recommend this cab. Finally, think it will drop more? Thanks and keep up the solid work.Enjoy Carl too. Sincerely, Movie
@@PDubsArcadeLoft Thanks pdubs. Any update on the sound? Since its wifi enabled just wondering if you noticed if they pushed out an update. Your re views are easily the best around. Enjoy Michael b and jason as well as kfox. Michael b doesn't reply tho. Even before the new baby lol
Nice review, was expecting to be able to change the views like on my ps1 copy. I'm still on the fence, $700 is still a lot of cash. I could stomach $499, that's the only reason I picked up Big Blue (When Khols dropped it to 499) That costco Mortal Kombat bundle I got a few years ago seems like an even better deal now in 2022!!!
RR1 and RR2 arcade never had force feedback. I restored both full size cabs and it didn't have it. RR2 has better remixed RR1 music on the music select screen if you hold down the brake when choosing.
Honestly I don't know how anybody plays racing games standing up. Great review tho. Good format to it. Getting ridiculous with their sound problems. I hope there's a day when their quality matches their prices again.
I want Midway's Rush racing and Hydro Thunder. Those are the only 2 cabs I'm waiting for. There's a Hydro Thunder full size in my area for only $700 (CRT replaced with LCD) but that thing is so huge. I hope they release new games soon.
@@PDubsArcadeLoft imagine you”re 12 at a holiday club in Spain. Then you find out just press the credit button really quickly gets you free credits. No one else knows. Ah, the good old days. Real story.
Yeah, all these Arcade1up machines seem very expensive for what they are - 3/4 scale particle board cabinets running off of cheap SoCs, especially given all the quality issues they've had with the releases - for the price they're asking I would expect them to nail down the quality. MAYBE if they released a "best of" cabinet with mixed artwork and several collections of games from different manufacturers for $300-400 it might pique my interest, but it would have to be a pretty damn good mix. I know it's cheap compared to buying an actual cabinet, but that's actual arcade hardware and wood cabinetry and original monitors, not a cheap LCD screen powered by a lower end SOC in a particle-board cabinet.
