@@Felix_Li_En yes, "inspired by" suggests having begun with direct material. And you don't list a mere influence on an official billing unless it is direct enough to warrant credit (eg an arrangement of an arrangement). Would you want Tristan and Isolde to be listed at Opera houses as "inspired by Liszt" or simply as the work of Wagner?

@@cziffra1980 Of course Tristan and Isolde is the work of Wagner, I don't get it, what is your point? My opinion here is, Mr. Volodos made a fantastic arrangement himself which is inspired by, or shall we say "made a tribute" to the Carmen Variations by Mr. Horowitz, simple! 🙂

@@Felix_Li_En Wagner literally ripped off the opening of Tristan and Isolde from Liszt. It's not impossible that Volodos actually told them that he was directly inspired by Horowitz to write this and that they passed that on. However, he's said he didn't like this comparison and it seems a little unfair not to simply announce it as his own arrangement. I don't think the band Oasis would have been very pleased if their songs were announced (for a performance) as having been inspired by the Beatles, rather than as their work.
