10:04 In the manga, the P1 protagonist (known as Naoya Todou) pierced it to remind himself of who he really was, after he spent years pretending to be his dead twin brother Kazuya to help his mother cope with the grief of the loss. When Aki manifests his guilt into a shadow self pretending to be Kazuya, he distinctly lacks the piercing, showing the part of Naoya that still haven't gotten over his brother's death.
I remember someone saying that Shin's Arcana could be the Tower. I don't know why but I think it has to do with Persona trinity soul having a lot of characters dying and things going wrong around Shin during the series. I thought of him having the Chariot Arcana because of his will to keep fighting but the Fool Arcana can be an easy fit for him as well.
I actually was looking at Chariot quite a bit with Shin. Typically very determined characters with a focus on a goal, but can be quick to anger when provoked. It does somewhat fit, but next month I'll be looking at the Marebito and there was one character I thought fit Chariot a bit more.

Just finished watching Trinity Soul, and while I've been bouncing around ideas for a mega Persona crossover story for a while (will NOT, however, be starting it until I at least finish a certain oneshot I'm in the middle of, as well as provide another update for two other fan fics I'm working on), your analysis here definitely helps with trying to figure out what direction to take certain things, in addition to just being an awesome look at the characters with very informative points about details that I honestly overlooked. One thing that did stand out to me, though, was something you mentioned at 10:06 regarding the Persona 1 protagonist. We actually get a possible explanation in the Perosna 1 manga as to why Naoya (aka the Boy with Earring) pierced his ear, and it actually ties into the argument you make regarding rebellion. To give a HEAVYILY abbreviated summary, in the manga, it's revealed that Naoya actually had a twin brother named Kazuya who died in a tragic accident. He spent some time pretending to be his dead brother in order to calm his mother down, but eventually it started to get to a point where Naoya was at risk of losing his own identity, and so he pierced his ear to help make it clear that he was himself and not his brother. This actually becomes a plot point in the manga where Naoya is separated from the group and someone claiming to be Kazuya impersonates him (in fact, their relationship during the events of the manga inspired the names of two characters from the Daybreakers animation and the Persona 5 sidequest it is based on), but I haven't actually finished the manga, so I can't speak too much on it. However, if you haven't had a chance to look into it yet, I highly recommend it. For one thing, we actually get to see what the SEBEC route would look like with more than just 5 party members. But more importantly, it's a fun yet fascinating look at the first game in the series. And now that I've finished Trinity Soul, after watching your analysis on the antagonists, perhaps my next project should be actually finish the manga.
Hey Strain, loving your work, and I enjoyed watching your videos on trinity souls! Are you ever going to add these Arcana videos to the trinity souls playlist? I feel like they make a nice epilogue to that series.
It's possible that not all Fool arcana users have the wild card, but all wild card users belong to the fool arcana. We always hear about how rare of an ability that is in later games. Igor always seems kinda curious whenever he encounters a wild card user. Tjen again, it may be an ability that only philomon can bestow, given how protagonists in 1 and 2 handled shuffling their abilities. Though Fool users may cross paths with Igor rather frequently. I dunno, just cooking up theories.

That was the explanation in the manga, but I don’t believe that was ever established in the actual game. But it’s about as likely as anything else at this point. Many people see Kazuya as canon even though he’s never mentioned in the game
Hey Strain, think you can do this for Fire Emblem Three Houses? That game has an arcana system in the form of crests, and certain characters have their crests symbols next to them. Not all of them have crests though, I'd like to see what the unmarked characters' arcana could be. It is facinating to analyze the arcana of characters to see what we may encounter in stories,

I've been following your Trinity Soul videos because I'll be trying to rewrite Trinity Soul as if it is a part of the canon Persona series. It's gonna be a big project. I've already given arcanas for the characters before watching this but I'm still ehhhhh, not sure about it 😅😅. My plan is Shin being the Fool because protag; Jun being the Lovers is a first plan but turned into Temperance; Ryou is either Emperor or Hierophant. Takuro is Chariot; Megumi is Magician; and Kanaru is High Priestess but that's when I got lazy already 😅😅. So this video helped me classify their characters. Thanks ●▽●
If you want to break the mold, you can make Shin a different arcana since he is not a joker like 3 through 5. Actually, the persona 1 and 2 protags are not fools either, so making Shin a different arcana would be a return to form. Actually, can I help out? I was thinking about a canonical reimagining of Trinity soul too. One day, it would be cool to see trinity soul made into a fan game. Do you have discord? Maybe we can talk there.
That's the story in the manga, but so far nothing in the games seem to corroborate that. But it's as logical an explanation as any unless Atlus wants to somehow expand upon their 24 year old RPG XD

I dunno. I bought it way back when it was new. I know there WAS a period when it was only like 20 bucks but that was before MegaTen really took off stateside. If you don't care about owning it physically (I think) you can get it digitally on PS3 for (I think) only 10 bucks.
