The Viktor scene where he runs is a nice juxtipose to when he was a boy and couldnt outrun a toy boat, now he was shown outrunning a steamboat in the background. This show has amazing imagery.

So many layers that people don't talk about. I notice new ones everytime. Jayce Tallis his name sounds like face, aka the face of piltover; Tallis comes from Thales of miletus who is one of Ancient Greece's founders that was scentists who created deductive reasoning. Jayce was always known to be easily manipulated since ep 2 "he didn't even haggle" - ekko. Also in ep 7 when he hugs his mother "I'm worried I have to do something I thought I never would" zooms into a sketch of a man with a blue cape and a hammer which is known as his families hammer. It looks like Garen with a big blue cape but also like Jayce is saying that is him with a hammer and he wants to be like Garen who sacrified his life to defend his kingdom at all costs.

@@CSM_Kobeni in league lore, Jayce is "the Idealist". Which explains why he never haggles -- not with Ekko/Benzo in Ep1 and not with *SPOILER* in Ep9. That's no Garen reference, by the way. That's just a picture Jayce drew of his future self when he was a child, after meeting Ryze and learning about runes/crystals/arcane/magic. As a child, Jayce would imagine himself as a super hero when he was older with a cape and magic hammer. However, when Jayce actually grew up, he realized violence is usually not the answer and quashed that childish dream until....which is why he tells his mother in Ep7, "I'm worried i'll have to do something I never thought I would", as the camera pans to and focuses on the child's drawing.

The way Silco gently cradles Jinx when he finds her is so heart-wrenching. It shows a side of him that we don't often see - his vulnerability and love for her.

The wolf metaphor is lore wise pretty cool, since death is symbolized as a lamb and a wolf in this universe. (they used to be one but were lonely and split themselfs in two)

Even better than that is where the Medardas are from, Noxus, they don't even *believe* in the Lamb. Death is just a wolf. And like a wolf, it hunts by never letting you rest, always at your heels. Noxus' ideals (Might, Vision, Guile) are all tools to stay one step ahead of the wolf. But Eventually, it catches you.

What needs to be remembered is that Jace IS inexperienced, he is easily manipulated, and it's not because he's dumb. He's naive, inexperienced, an idealist, and ultimately a good man who wants to do the right thing. He was thrust into a position of power that he was not ready for and had no idea how to navigate. Despite all of that, every time he made a mistake, he quickly learned and adapted to the situation. Jace's story in Season 1 is trial-by-fire. He makes lots of mistakes throughout the season, but they were mistakes he had to make in order to learn and grow into the leader he needs to become. The situations he's been put in, and decisions he's had to make, are ones that would be difficult for any seasoned leader, and he had to make those decisions with very little experience in a position that he never wanted in the first place. Even in decisions where it seemed he was doing the wrong thing, you can see why he thought it was the right thing. Getting Heimerdinger ousted from the council for example. Jace wasn't wrong about Heimerdinger, the undercity had gotten to the place it's at under HIS leadership, because he WAS too caught up in the past, to cautious, not active enough in helping the people who needed help in the here-and-now, not a decade down the line. It's easy to get frustrated with Jace, but what would you do in his shoes? What would anyone do? Are you sure you wouldn't entertain the idea of making hextech weapons when multiple people more experienced than you have suggested to do so, with the growing threat of attacks against citizens whose safety is YOUR responsibility?

I agree with everything you said except the Heimerdinger part. Heimerdinger's fear of magic is completely justified. The hexcore and Jayce's hammer have proven him right. I wouldn't say under "his" leadership. Remember what Mel said? Heimer is experienced only as a scientist, not as a politician. Heimer is busy with the academy. He does not make political decision. He doesn't involve himself in trade etc.

@@itsgonnabeokay9341but while there is a council, Heimerdinger tends to be viewed as "the head", having central position in the chamber, being reverred as the founder of the city, being the one to give the Progress Day speeches up until this year, and people are dying from the conditions in the undercity, with only Jayce and Viktor working on improvements. Even Heimerdinger realises how out of touch he has become when visiting the undercity. He has the luxury of waiting decades or centuries for safer options to be developed, but the people he's meant to serve don't.

The symbolism of the shower scene is so good IMO. Vi claims that her and Caitlyn are like "Oil and Water" they don't mix. But in the shower scene, we see flashes of Caitlyn thinking of Vi while Blood (drawn red, a color heavily associated with Vi) and Water (which is classically drawn blue, a color heavily associate with Caitlyn) mix perfectly together. :)

ehh. bit of a stretch I think. The most obvious reason Cait is in the shower replaying the event backwards in her head about the last time she spoke to or saw Vi is because, as a friend of mine once put it: "You don't just think about anyone in the shower, bro" Cait is in love. Throughout the entire series it's made pretty clear that Cait has the crush on Vi, not the other way around. Vi seems to take it or leave it and could care less, not dismissive but not lusting at the level that Cait is and perfectly happy to remain fully independent as she's always been. It's never implied, even in Ep9, that Vi and Cait "mix" as a couple. The ONE time it's ever directly addressed, Vi says "never meant to be" (and yes I realize she could have been lying to protect herself, but doesn't change her words and im not a fan of speculating outside of substance provided because that's a boundless and directionless journey with an infinite number of equally valid/invalid assumptions). Vi was also as easy and gentle as possible letting Cait down like that, she just said go back home "and forget me... okay?". Vi directed zero vitriol or malice towards Cait in that remark and even the half-way head turn before "okay" was softened at the end as to silently ask, "you gonna be okay though, for real, Cait?" Vi then gives the shortest pause in history before throwing her hood on and walking away...almost like that short pause was the 1 second window she gave Cait to say "NO DONT GO", but Cait was respectfully silent after Vi's suggestion that Cait move on asap. You can love someone or care about someone and still leave them if you genuinely feel that's what's best for them. Pray you never have to give your child up for adoption to know what it feels like. Vi most likely doesn't want to tangle Cait's "perfect life" up in her own perpetually messy life. Vi has nothing to do with the blood or the water in the shower scene, imo. Both are brought into the shower by Caitlyn. There's just as much credibility suggesting oil/water > blood/water > Vi/Jinx or even RedHeadedDeadFemaleFirelight/Jinx.

yeah it's crazy how that final scene in Ep8 is one of the best fight sequences with actual lore weapons in the entire series....but it's always forgotten for that and remembered instead for the kid's death at the peak of action and adrenaline. just a masterpiece man

Maple not to make things worse but Skye is the young girl that is watching Viktor make the boat as a kid - she's been interested in him for a long time. Also season 2 is out November 2024 so you don't have to wait too long (unlike the rest of us!!)

"It's much easier to rule with respect than fear" Ah! But remember what Mel said, they intend to install a puppet for them. So it doesn't matter if people don't respect them as long as they respect whoever's in charge. "You could have just waited to see if she healed" Nah, she took a grenade next to the face (well not quite because we heard that Little Man threw the grenade away with his pipe but considering the timing, it was 2 meters away at most), she was not healing. I know the animation was diluted to not make it look too nightmarish but there was no saving Jinx through conventional means. That being said, Jinx is the one who blew up the doctor's face in Episode 3. It's entirely possible that he's being unnecessarily sadistic as payback for that, it's very hard to say. He could be a type of character that's entirely above grudges, but his grin when hurting her does suggest he takes sadistic pleasure in this.

singed doesn't care about the wellbeing of others, it's honestly more surprising he drugged silco but that might have just been because he figured silco might interrupt the treatment. with how effective shimmer was shown to be in healing i think he took the opportunity to do a bit of extra experimentation on jinx when she ended up on his table.

@@meewec2091 You should be careful about bringing knowledge from outside the show into this. We don't know for sure what personality he'll have in Arcane yet and there's no guarantee it will perfectly match the games and other media. Clearly he's not above hurting people for his research, that's established and his grin was definitely unsettling but it could have been pure curiosity at the result of Jinx's treatment or it could be sadism. We don't know for sure how much he cares about others well being yet. Did he drug Silco to get him out of the way? Out of empathy? A little bit of both? Hard to say. We know he doesn't care enough to stop his research but we don't know if he doesn't care at all.

from how they talked i think it was pretty clear that jinx was in her deathminutes, not only would she not have recovered she would have died and no one but doctor singed could have saved her also victor was a fool to try the transformation with no shimmer left but with the blockade he had no way to go back to singed for more

I mean.. Silco took Jinx to the only doctor he knew about. That's the thing, what kind of medical care do you think the undercity has? You think it's the same as Piltover? Probably not. That's one of the things Silco wants to change too. To get independence, to get more supplies, to have more freedom. And while this leads down some dangerous ideas and ideologies, it's pretty understandable. Silco did what he thought was best for Jinx because he thought she would die you know, from an explosion? A thing that you don't just walk off and walk away from.

Do you see the similarities between Vi and Silco? Silco wants "respect" from Piltover, and for the "undercity" to be a separate nation independent from Piltover, not to mention his own revenge. Vi told Powder that someday "topside" will respect them and has always been consumed with revenge. First, she wanted revenge on the Enforcers after her parents were killed on the bridge when she and Powder were children, and after the incident when Vander, Mylo, and Claggor died, seeing Silco next to Powder, she wants revenge against Silco.

Mel’s mom is such a powerhouse, in every meaning of the word. I hate her as a character but *love* her design so much. She reminds me of a tattoo I have of painting of Rosie the Riveter by Norman Rockwell. If you look it up you’ll see, I wanna sit in her lap, she’s a beast.

I always find it interesting when people roll their eyes at Jayce when he’s considering making weapons or taking action against the Undercity. The Undercity blew up a posh apartment building, killed the former sheriff and a bunch of enforcers, ruined progress day by blowing up a building along with 6 enforcers (nearly 7 but Cait survived), stole a dangerous piece of technology, and killed the new sheriff and at least 7 more enforcers. Of course Jayce wants to do something about that. I would be pissed if I were from Piltover and my leadership decided to do nothing.

Right. Things have been left to degrade for so long that ALL the possible choices are bad. Silco won't compromise on his goal. The people in the undercity won't abandon him for the council. The council has no idea where to even start pursuading them to do so, because they haven't cared for years. But going to war will be a bloodbath.

Taking into account the incidents of Undercity violence while completely ignoring the violence Piltover commits everyday by simply existing and exploiting the fruits of the Undercity's labour is kinda crazy ngl. As viewers we have a more objective angle on the scenario and we see Jayce very much is fine with undercity suffering as long as it doesn't affect topsiders.

@@LucasHS23 It’s not that I’m ignoring the power imbalance, it’s that often times the reactors that I’m watching (I’ve watched ALLLL the Arcane reactions) don’t put themselves in Jayce’s shoes AT ALL. You claim he doesn’t care about the Undercity and I disagree with that. I think it’s quite clear that he does want to help them, but all he’s seeing in return is violence toward topside. Jayce is thinking “i might be from topside, but im from a lower house. Im a scientist who almost lost everything because Undercity folks broke into my lab. I didn’t put y’all into the position y’all are in…the people before me did that. Now, I got thrusted into a powerful leadership role, and im being pulled in 100 different directions…and y’all just keep blowing shit up! Wtf Undercity”. It’s all super grey area, and im fine if the viewer chooses to side with the Undercity, but im NOT fine with that if they don’t even grasp the nuances of why Jayce feels the way he does. The nuances are what make the show a masterpiece imo. But instead of recognizing any of that, I keep seeing reactors say “I hate Jayce. He’s so dumb. He has no spine”. That’s selling the show short.

Glad you guys have been catching the detail in the animation style. It’s a French studio, and this style is the same vibe as we often see in French (well, Franco-Belgian to be fair) comics (bandes desinées, BD) art work. Hopefully, the critical success of this show will lead to more attention in the US to the BD art style and ideally to more animation in that style. It’s an uphill, as BD art takes a really long time, as you can imagine.

Skye's death is tragic on so many levels. Also, in Viktor's flashback with the boat the little girl watching him from teh rock is Skye when she was little I believe so she has been interested in him since they were kids in the undercity. She was straight up about confess her admiration for him and probably serve up some cool idea about how to harness the seed or help him get healthy and she just gone. This show is so good good, its wild.

Part of the danger of escalation isn't just tit for tat, but that each participant tends to normalize the stage of escalation where they're at, which makes it easier to escalate more. Mel was going down that path. Then Ambessa gave her a reality check with "weapons can't be unmade and are always used."

Been a few months now. But i still wanna say my piece Jayce, despite being topside, has been a part of the lower class all his life. Hes jusr a step above the underground. Thats why hes soe empathetic to both sides. And why he's so split and "easily manipulated." He knows boths sides and has an open minded perspective. He can see both sides coming together nicely and peacefully. Because it could. But because of a lor of certain circumstances, it jusr doesnr happen. He isnt right, but he isnt wrong. Hes the ryu of league of legends

you might missunderstood heimerdinger ... he has no visions he said that he saw it in his past. he is over 300 years old, that was no vision it was him remembering it also as the "childworker" was the one pressing the alarm AND the son of one of the highest ranked evil leaders ... i dont think it was childlabour it was just a young criminal who died of his own actions

If you do want to cosplay Heimerdinger, in the game there are actually several characters of his race (the Yordles) and they are all awesome, Lulu is my favorite. In fact, in just a few days they’re releasing a crafting rpg game based on the Yordles (Bandle Tale), it looks a bit more kids oriented but it might be fun.

Very poor choice of words... yeah, I MASSIVELY respect this series for giving us the big set-piece fight scene that the fans of League of Legends had been craving all along, only to rip the joy of it away from us when the kid dies, and you see that the workers were all children, too. Now, with the kid being "innocent," that was the kid who hit the alarm. Still, these kids are... just in a really between a rock and a hard place. This is probably the only way that they can help support themselves... and their families, if they even _have_ families. To them, the enforcers are every bit the villains that Vi and Powder saw them as growing up... coming down to take what little they have. They're not there to help them, they are there to stop something they deem bad without coming in to replace it with anything better. That's what they don't get... what they've never gotten. They aren't an authority that the undercity people trust, they are the oppressors, keeping them from being able to have what they need to survive.

people read those? lol when i used to write the descriptions from scratch they were just two instagram links. chatgpt fills the description with keywords that help search engine optimization.

Noxus whole society is build around the ide that if u think u deserve something then prove your strong enough to take it. Noxus may be a warmongering nation but they depely respect strenght regardless of what class of citizen u are.

Real happy to at least see news of a second season. Never thought it was gonna happen since it’s been years. Maybe some redemption to be had for our bunch of frustrating characters. Or maybe worse things to come.
