For those wondering, Director Fukuda said in an interview that the best way to destroy the Archangel was by a surprise attack, and when their escort mobile suits were too far away to help. Otherwise the Black Knights would face too much resistance. That's why Fukuda had the Black Knights betray the Archangel and attack it when the Archangel crew weren't expecting it.
