The Division II State Championship would be decided by #9 Kettering Alter and streaking Maysville who entered the night riding a 21 game win streak. An exciting contest played in front of nearly 6,300 fans at the University of Dayton Arena would see the Knights claim their 1st title since 2001 with a 68-54 victory.
The Panthers (26-4) enjoyed a 3-0 edge in their first ever State Finals appearance, but Alter would close out the frame on a 13-6 run and never trailed again. Behind program all-time leading scorer Alex Bobb, who finished the night with a game-high 24 points, Maysville remained within striking distance, trailing 24-27 heading into the break.
A 13-0 Knights run in the third quarter would nearly put the game out of reach, as Joe Brand (23 pts) and R.J. Greer (17 pts) led Alter to a 48-34 cushion entering the final frame. The Panthers would cut into the deficit behind a State Finals record 14 made 3-pointers, but an 18-21 shooting performance at the free throw line allowed the Knights to pull away for the victory.
Maysville finishes the best season in program history with the teams second Final Four berth (1971), a Muskingum Valley League title, along with the most wins (26) and longest winning streak (21).They will graduate 4 seniors including Bobb, Wesley Armstead, Sammy Scott, and Coen Fink.
The State Championship is the fourth in team history for Alter, who will say goodbye to seniors Gavin Leen, Carter Sheets, Jacob Focht, Collin Wehner, and Joe Brand.
