A glorious ceremony in the breath-taking interior of Westminster Cathedral. There's an air of expectation that this archbishop will make a significant contribution to Britain's national life. Down-to-earth, yes - but he is also a man of deep convictions and prayer.
I watched from America this ceremony in its entirety. I thought Archbishop Nichols an inspired choice. He is Catholic but oh so British. Perfect for a minority community in a country with an established church. I was impressed with the respectful way in which Her Majesty The Queen was prayerfully remembered. Catholic and British, it was very easy to be proud of both.
@@brookeggleston9314 Well, the Church teaches "Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus" which means that outside of the Church there is no salvation save for those suffering from invincible ignorance. So, it does matter whether one is Catholic or not.
Absolutely glorious! Proof that Westminster Cathedral can equal Westminster Abbey in terms of British pomp and circumstance. Job well done! It was an incredibly fitting finale to the equally well done funeral of Cardinal Basil Hume. Makes me proud to be a Catholic in the UK and proud to be British. God save the King.
Westminster Cathedral is a truly wonderful church. I attended the Mass of Welcome after Vincent Nichols was created a Cardinal by the Pope in 2014. I also had the privilege of meeting him 5 years ago. He's a really nice man. This Mass took place on my birthday 7 years ago.
I didn't know that the Roman Catholic Church had these Anthems. In Eastern Orthodoxy we have poems, kmown as Phemes which is a Greek word. They are simililar but specific to the respective Throne. This is a more elaborate one, "Elpidophoros, the Most Reverend Archbishop of the Holy Archdiocese of America, Guardian and Exarch of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, our spiritual father and hierarch,* Many Years!" *Substitute "Sheppard" if he is the diocesan hierarch.
In France many parishes have solved the question of altar girls by creating a separate liturgical function for girls called 'pastourelles'. These handle lead singing, reading, the offering processions and other tasks. The altar-related functions are covered by boys. Vestments are different too. Shame the Catholic Church in London gives in to this mild form of feminism. This is not the CoE.
Take what? Anglicans are basically catholics, Im anglican and i consider my self somewhat catholic i believe in transsubstantiation and i even attend tridentine mass occasionally arnt we one holy catholic church?
Sorry I was supposed to say why did I see a girl dressed as an altar boy? So I was thinking this is novus ordo Mass. If only they showed us the 3 hrs. Ceremony that would have been nice. I heard from the announcer it was Roman Catholic. That was wonderful but again why is there a girl serving as altar boy?
Your jaundiced and out-dated opinion is not shared by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, visible head of the Catholic Church. The aforementioned Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, recently officiated at a celebration of Vespers in the Church of St Gregory the Great in Rome. They sat side by side. both vested in bishop's vestments. The Pope then presented the Archbishop with a replica of the Crozer given by Pope Gregory the Great to St Augustine. A very symbolic act. Whoever heard of a Pope giving a Crozier to a layman? The Catholic Church moves foreward in Chrstian charity with Pope Francis. Perhaps you would like to do the same for the love of God.
First off its already been declared by Pope St Leo xxiii that all Anglican orders are null and void and you know what, no Pope has or attempted to overwrite that because its already been defined. Second giving someone a Crozer as a gift does not mean much. Its a gift; it was probably chosen by his secretary anyway. Popes have been meeting with Anglicans for years this is not new. "Whoever heard of a Pope giving a Crozier to a layman" actually the crozier used to be given to also judges, dukes and kings and they are laymen. Lastly your liberal "catholic" ideology is dying off as you liberals don't have kids or if you do they leave the faith. On the other hand traditionalist Catholicism is thriving. Your heretical ideas will not last for long because you guys don't produce vocations or children. On the other hand we produce many children and vocations. So you can quit your dying and outdated 1960's based liberal ideology.
@@m-hayek1985 And much of what Leo xxiii declared has been overturned by edicts of Pope's after him! It happens all the time. Popes make declarations that make declarations of past Popes null and void. It's been going on for more than a millenia!!
que hacen esas buenas mujeres en una Misa católica? el Altar NO es para las mujeres entre ninguna rama o denominación de la Iglesia católica sea romana o no lo sea.
Could be more edificing if they play only the organ. I love it, but it sounds like it's more of a non-religuous function. And the 'altar girls'... Aghhh!
Pastors are supposed to be humble servants of Christ, labourers in the vineyard of the Lord, not peacocks with grand titles dressed in cloth of gold, jewelled mitres, and heralded by trumpets and special compositions.
I do hope you realize that they only dress this way for special occasions. Their daily dress is much more simple. Btw, how would you dress to serve dinner with our Lord Christ??
He choose to walk away as as Cardinal with Fr Slawomir Witon... as His Emminece walk in with him with such a glowing on February 2014!!!! Unfortunately the world is not interested in what kind of glory you walked in..., but on the shame on your way out... The Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who protected and supported Roman catholic paedophiles priests and who accommodate well known paedophile in his residence next to the Westminster Choristers boarding school House... is Fr Slawomir Witon part in those crimes of yours??? As long as you brought him to Westminster Cathedral... you both hiding a monstrous crime still to be found!!!!
Wake me up when it's over. Nothing new. Better than Matthias (can't get much worse than that, but still...boring texture, instrumentation, Forgettable.
if only the money spent on this sort of nonsense was spent more productively on the troubles we see around this world, THAT would recognise what the foundations of christianity were built on. i love beautiful architecture and music, but this is purely a 'gin palace' when you compare with what's happening (and been happening for years) in Syria. this is self worship, not the worship of any God!
The Catholic Church gives more Money and Aid to the poor and less fortunate than all the countries in the world, also this is celebration of the instalment, like you would have a birthday party, why don't you just not have presents or any money and commit suicide and give all your money to the poor, surely that must be your philosophy since you are ridiculing others? Just Don't comment on things that don't concern you. If you want to make an opinion, then please don't make it harm others, or ridicule others' beliefs.
last time i looked, this was an open forum. the 'generosity' of the catholic church, is borne out of donations from people like me and you (after they've taken their subsidy to pay for 'parties' such as this); not to mention the significant landholdings they own, either given freely or taken by force. and yes, i'll be having a birthday party, just with my own money, not financed by others contributions which would be better served supporting the countless missionaries and missions worldwide. i stand by my original post, this extravagance is self-worship and does not represent what christianity stands for; i'm not ridiculing any religion, i'm simply recognising that this use of funds, by a religion based on selflessness, is obscene. have a nice day.
