How does this release (and the other Onnex series) size up compared to Carters? I have a 21.5cm/8.5" handspan, so feel like a medium is probably the right move for me.
@ajbholsters2035
@ajbholsters2035 25 дней назад
@@Ben.Paints hello and thank you for watching. That's going to depend on which Carter you are comparing. The Carter Wise Choice would sit between a Large and a XL OnneX, whereas a Whisper 2 Small would match up to a medium OnneX. I have a sizing guide on my website (www.artandarchery.com with downloadable PDFs to check sizes and compare handles) if that helps.

Ya gotta love English when it's spoken good. To satisfy a need to 'make-it-my-own' and to improve the store-bought, I remove the grit from 30-grit sandpaper, and with 5 minute epoxy, glue the grit where I feel it to be necessary; thumb button. This gives me very positive feedback and is, absolutely, non-skid. (am awaiting my Stan Click, just sent for)

@@jthepickle7 thank you for watching. I try to put on my best "narrator" voice when I record my videos 👍. I imagine 30 grit sand paper grit glued onto the release would certainly improve your purchase on it without adding to the thickness of the handle. Excellent suggestion 👍.

Great review, love the detail. Can ask what thumb release you find the best? I am interested in the onnex and the ultra view UV but there are no archery shops near me to test them, will be a sight unseen internet purchase sadly. I am not a hunter, mainly target shooting outdoors, some 3D

I'm going to copy the message I sent you on Etsy In case anyone else is trying to make a similar decision: Hello Justin and thank you for checking out my content and my store. I'll see what I can do to narrow down your options without leaving you with a case of "option paralysis". There are a lot of options and there are very few releases I outright would not recommend, so I'll stick with the two you mentioned. The release I tend to recommend most often is the Stan OnneX, particularly the Clicker version because you can set it to be used with or without the click by adjusting the trigger travel. I discuss that in my review on my channel. The reasons I choose the OnneX over the UV Button are as follows: -The OnneX comes in 5 sizes and the sizes are distinct from each other in all dimensions (size, thickness and even the finger attachments are adjusted by 10% between sizes). So you have the best chance of getting a "fitted feel" as compared to other releases. The UV Button comes in 2 sizes, medium and large. The medium would equate to an OnneX Large, and the Large equates to an Extra extra large. -The OnneX comes in a kit with two lengths of thumb peg post, two sizes of thumb peg, 3 and 4 finger attachments, trainer lock pin, and the tools necessary to make adjustments. The UV Button comes as a 3-Finger, and any additional configurations must be purchased separately. -The OnneX's finger attachments are sweep-adjustable. So you can further adjust the handle to fit your hand. The Button's finger attachments are not adjustable. -The position of the hook on the OnneX is fairly "standard" and can be paired up with a variety of other thumb releases and hinges without the need to adjust the archer's anchor point or d-loop length. So if you are looking to use a hinge and a thumb with the same bow, you can mix and match brands of releases to get a combination that works on your bow and gives you the same point of impact without having to match your method of shot execution (i.e. squeezing the trigger on the thumb release will hit in the same spot as executing the hinge with back tension). The UV Button's hook height and position are unique and pairing it with any release except the UV Hinge is far less likely (and it may not give you a similar point of impact with it, either). It may also require adjustments of d-loop length or even draw length in order to anchor comfortably with it. Both releases use a spring-gate to capture your d-loop and hang the release on it. The OnneX opens toward your face and the UV Button opens away from your face. One odd quirk of the Button some archers are encountering is the d-loop can slip between the hook and the spring gate if you draw the release at an odd angle. I've never had this issue because I draw thumb releases with the handle perpendicular to the string. The OnneX does not have that issue due to the direction the hook opens. Both the OnneX and the Button are good releases and if you set your bow up for either one exclusively, you should have good success whichever one you choose. That said, if you have to buy it sight-unseen, your odds of being able to set the release up in a configuration that works for you are the highest with the OnneX. As far as sizing goes, I have printable PDFs on my website (www.artandarchery.com) and www.stanoutdoors.com does as well that you can print you and get an idea of what size you may need. I'm not familiar with how gloves are sized in Australia, but I wear a size Small glove and a Medium OnneX fits my hand perfectly. I think that about covers it. I hope I was able to help you along in your decision. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Take care, stay safe and happy hunting. ~Andrew

This release is really interesting, thanks for the video. It has me revisiting my Scott Verge, as I prefer a wrist strap to a hand held in the draw and in the anchor, but a trigger like a traditional index release has given me target panic worse than any other, even when I really like to command release a thumb button. The Verge I originally wanted to help "cure" my index trigger target panic, so I could then use one of my Carter indexes or any other manufacturer, but the click really bothers me, even though a hinge click doesn't. Upon revisiting it though and thinking of it more like how Joel Turner has said the Stan is intended to be shot, I like it more than I did before. Really interested to see if this design catches on and is further developed, because the Verge, imo, is not the highest quality feeling release, even if the mechanism works quite nicely, and how I imagine this feels exactly, except for it being an index vs thumb. I'm trying to think of it like the little firearm experience I have, and comparing it to an accutrigger on an old Savage 30-06 my pawpaw gave to me for hunting, and I like that trigger quite a lot. Trying to make my brain like it for archery too, but that's another story. What do you feel about index releases in general? Do you think this kind of "2 stage" design will be more popular or not catch on? Thanks for the video.
@ajbholsters2035
@ajbholsters2035 Год назад
Thank you for watching. I expected the industry to pick up the concept of a two-stage trigger eventually. There are only so many different things you can do with a piece of equipment that fits into the human hand, and the equipment has become so high-quality that it's getting harder to convince the public that the new stuff is worth buying. So they had to put out something completely new. I'm willing to bet most of the manufacturers will release their own version of either the thumb with a click or an actual 2-Stage trigger (or something else that hasn't been done yet), as well as additional versions in a wrist release. This type of trigger has a shorter learning curve than a hinge; so it's automatically more appealing for those who want to transition to a handheld from a strap release. It might just be a phase, though, and eventually we'll circle back around to back tension.

These come with a lanyard solution now. I bought one a month ago and it has a bolt to replace the screw that secures the 3/4 finger attachments with holes through it to run a piece of thin paracord or something. Think of the bolt head being cross drilled and that's what it has now.

Hello and thank you for checking out my video as well as providing that info. Yes, the finger attachment mounting screw was designed to thread a lanyard into it. When I made this video last year they claimed to be working on something. It's basically the only thing wrong with the OnneX platform, and it's good they finally got it sorted out.

Yes, all my OnneX's I use I changed the button head screws that hold the thumb barrel post to the trigger stem with 6-32 x 5/16" socket head screws and the screw for the finger extension to a 6-32 x 3/8" (iirc) socket head screw so I could use a larger Allen key on it without damaging it.

Click or not, the Click will be hanging on the D loop during archery season. The capture was not available on a hinge so it remains in the release pouch or a holster. I was fortunate to get the Click after the release. The Click was adjusted much like my Onnex thumb. Shot for shot, the Click mirrored the Onnex Thumb during a 3D shoot. Other archers sampled the release and were impressed and looked to turn the screws on their own Click. See you at the 2024 UBNJ R100 again!

Another great review. I like your tactic for clearing out the shooting range ..😅. Thank you for the tip on disabling the click. Maybe they don't mention that since it means it becomes a hair trigger and no allowance for adjustability exists when the click is disabled.

@ajbholsters2035 Год назад
Thank you very much. They do mention in the instructions in the packaging that you can adjust the travel past the click (probably should have read them before I started the review). So you might be right. Your options are "click" or "zero percent travel".

I just got the new stan onex thumb release. I went to switch to the fatter thumb barrel . To take off the smaller one I tried to loosen the allen screw but it would not come out. the fatter barrel has no allen screw in it so I could not change it. I will probably call the company on Monday. the allen screw just goes arond and around but does not come out. Whats up with that?

So did u say ur not gonna be making holsters specific to the onnex click? Just buy a thumb release holster when i finally realize how annoying it is not to have a lanyard on a release?
@ajbholsters2035
@ajbholsters2035 Год назад
That is correct. The Clicker is identical to the thumb/resistance except for that little spur on the top of the index finger (which does not affect how the releases fits into the Holster). So the holster I offer for the thumb/resistance fits the Clicker as well. I just need to sit my ass down and update all my listings to reflect it. The options will show "Onnex T/R/C" followed by # of fingers and size on Etsy and the full name on my website when I get it done. And I agree. I don't know why they won't add a lanyard attachment since I (even though I wouldn't use one) and navy others have been yelling about it since they released the first Onnex.

Thank you for watching. I'm glad you are finding my videos useful. The Solution 3 is a bit before my time (I got back into archery in 2012), so I don't know roughly the size of the handle. Are you looking for a thumb release or a hinge? I'd say the Stan Onnex with the 4-Finger attachment in its fully swept position would be close in shape.
@randymcvey4629
@randymcvey4629 10 месяцев назад

Thanks for the review. I ordered one, after debating getting the regular Thumb. Here I was, thinking it was an actual 2 stage.. That being said, I didn't realize it was usable as a regular one, which is reaffirming my decision, in the worst case I end up with a little more expensive Onnex Thumb to replace my shootoff and complement my Onnex resistance.
@ajbholsters2035
@ajbholsters2035 Год назад
My pleasure. I'm glad you found the info useful. I was hoping for a real two-stage as well. I suppose we'll have to wait a little longer. Like I said, I think this will motivate the other release manufacturers to put out their own versions. I really think Stan needs to make sure people know they can set it to zero travel and not use the click. It makes the design far more appealing to those who want to try it but don't want to get burned if they don't like it. Anyway, thanks for watching, and I hope you have a pleasant evening.
@Rikcey
@Rikcey Год назад
@@ajbholsters2035 I have one small question though. If set to zero travel, is the plate that receives the trigger peg in the same spot as the thumb version, or is it in a more progressed position relative to the handle/head?
@ajbholsters2035
@ajbholsters2035 Год назад
@@Rikcey that is a good question (and I just crawled into bed, so I'll have to follow up on this tomorrow). It would make sense the trigger stem's position "at rest" would shift down further in the direction of trigger travel when the travel is reduced. I hadn't noticed a significant while I was shooting the video, but I also wasn't looking for it. I'll have to look and see how much it moves, because usually I'll set the trigger travel, and then adjust the angle of the thumb barrel post. So I never considered that adjustment of travel will affect the position of the thumb barrel.
@ajbholsters2035
@ajbholsters2035 Год назад
@@Rikcey hello again. Sorry for taking a while to follow up. If you set the travel adjustment screw flush with the case, and turn it in past the click to "zero perceived travel", the trigger stem moves, maybe, 5 degrees, or about 1/8". So it's not much, but if you choose to make any major changes to your travel, it might require resetting the angle of your thumb barrel post. I really didn't notice the difference until I measured it.
