Animals are common dream symbols, often representing the untamed primal instincts. Instincts and archetypes are very closely related,m both being inborn patterns of behaviour that can be triggered at various times.

I think Moore is talking in generalities, and certainly not trying to make the claim that watching violent TV leads directly to someone becoming a rampage killer. It is more along the lines of, a society with a lot of unintegrated warrior will experience a variety of symptoms of this such a focus on violent TV and increased number of rampage killers. But yes, the TV and video games don't make people killers. Also, in his talk on the "Magician Archetype", Moore predicts there will be an increase in violent fundamentalism -- he was bang on with that prediction! The drug problem and addiction is largely a problem of an unintegrated Lover archetype, so yes you are correct hammering them with the Warrior isn't the solution. But the enabling of the maladaptation, especially telling people they don't have to work, and they can just be forever children taken care of by the state perpetually is also a poor solution to the increasing problem.

But tv and drug do affect youth and can cause violence when they dont have a map or guide to navigate the path we walk as humans. But also your environment add to that and how you ultimately express yourself. Whether its violent or firm we learn how to behave by what we see.

​@@croutendo2050 Yes, my views have changed a lot in the past 6 years. I've learned a lot. I would not write what I did above, today. One of the things worth looking into with mass killers is the use of psychiatric medication. I think it's very commonly used with those people, and the effect of stopping can be hugely destabilizing. The rate of suicide spikes sharply, and I wouldn't be surprised if rampage killing does also.

Politicians are human, so they're part awake and part confused. They're elected by some humans and rejected by others, all of whom are part awake and part confused. We each make them fit whatever narrative satisfies us the most. The natural state of human curiosity is not the search for truth, it's the search for a satisfying narrative that we can pretend is truth. When we have our satisfying narrative, we go to great lengths to (a) fit everything into it and (b) delude ourselves that we're dealing with reality itself, not a story that we've spent our lives patching together. If we're not very careful, we fix our narratives like concrete and attach them to our identity, so that a criticism of the story appears to be an attack on our person. Being a tribal species, we want to convince others to adopt our narrative and join our tribe; and if they refuse, we alienate ourselves from them, seeing them as 'other' and less than human. This is our natural state. We are quite a silly animal. If we can recognise that it takes real effort to go beyond this state, and if we commit to making the effort to be more aware of this process going on in us and in everyone else, I think we can hope to do a little better.
