"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." - George Mason (co-authored second amendment)
Here is the entire quote by Mason. “I ask, Who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers. But I cannot say who will be the militia of the future day. If that paper on the table gets no alteration, the militia of the future day may not consist of all classes, high and low, and rich and poor; but they may be confined to the lower and middle classes of the people, granting exclusion to the higher classes of the people.” “Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia. […] This was a most iniquitous project. Why should we not provide against the danger of having our militia, our real and natural armed strength, destroyed? The general government ought, at the same time, to have some such power. But we need not give them power to abolish our militia. If they neglect to arm them, and prescribe proper discipline, they will be of no use. I am not acquainted with the military profession. I beg to be excused for any errors I may commit with respect to it. But I stand on the general principles of freedom, whereon I dare to meet any one. I wish that, in case the general government should neglect to arm and discipline the militia, there should be an express declaration that the state governments might arm and discipline them. With this single exception, I would agree to this part, as I am conscious the government ought to have the power.” Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 14, 1788

This would assume a state of pre- existing civil unrest that would guarantee that whoever is in charge at the time will have already been overthrown and replaced. There is a damn good reason that unarmed, mass- civilian shootings like Tiananmen square '89 and Kent state 1970 do not happen often, because these massacres cause the only thing the Govt. fears, armed rebellion. All of these acts of crowd shooting are great motivators for more of the populace to rebel. When the citizens get together and exercise their rights it is a statement of autonomy, power and sovereignty that cannot be denied. That is what they all fear, free citizens with the ability to resist their rights being taken away. All the best
As the entire second amendment crowd were no-shows when an armed mob tried to forcefully overthrow our elected government. Save it phony. You have no idea what the 2nd is about.
