my server - discord.gg/4CbPdX4XFZ Re-rendered and optimized for high-definition (from interlaced to progressive), and subsequently re-optimized for video streaming, with none of the half-retarded interlacing artifacts that all the other uploads seem to have. It's also not in anamorphic like most of the other uploads related to this.
This is the near-complete television special directed by Hal Sutherland and produced by Norm Prescott and Lou Scheimer, slowed down to match the original NTSC speed, pitch, and 60Hz frequency to correct the common habit Hallmark Cards had of speeding up Filmation's materials throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s for PAL home media releases, this would then be followed up by Hallmark discarding the original film negatives and sound masters (the currently missing Comedy Hour music segments were most likely long gone by this time, they didn't show up on Archie/Sabrina content after syndication in 1976, that or they were cut from the NTSC videotape reels for other reasons), something that wasn't known (but suspected) until after Entertainment Rights' acquisition of Filmation's materials in 2004. The only things missing from the original broadcast (very minor, and hardly relevant) are a piano riff at the very start of the theme song, a laugh track, and a sponsor presented by Archie for Pals Vitamins (an early line of animal-shaped, kid friendly vitamins). You can view and hear the piano and Pals ad here (though, get ready for the interlacing artifacts I love to complain about): • Video The original broadcast with the Pals Vitamins sponsor, and laugh track can be viewed here: archive.org/details/TheArchie... The ending song "Get On The Line" happens to be one of four music videos from this "Comedy Hour" era that is accounted for to an extent, as the first iteration of the video without the credits is missing. The remaining 12 videos are also missing and presumed forever lost (‪@blameitonjorge‬ add this to your next case files video). An alternative print of the video exists with Sabrina's mouth closed at what would be the 23:46 mark (both versions having end credits). • Video This instrumental video was used as the ending for "The Archie/Sabrina Show" later in 1973. One thing I did do was adjust the ending to 0.99 speed to match the pitch of the original studio release, while leaving everything else at 0.96. From what I've seen online about this (I might not have all the details right), "Archie's Funhouse" aired later in 1970. This special was intended to have been the vehicle for introducing Sabrina into the mix, and beginning the Comedy Hour era, which is weird since it appears that the first episode of Comedy Hour was first broadcast the Saturday morning prior to this broadcasting, a Sunday evening. The Comedy Hour was comprised first of about 24 minutes of quick gags (called "Side Shows") and sketches, similar to Funhouse. The next 24 minutes was content focused on Sabrina's life. After Comedy Hour stopped broadcasting, the Funhouse show began with new episodes, and prior Comedy Hour segments grafted in (the Comedy Hour segments included Sabrina and her family, so it'll be obvious if you watch Archie's Funhouse which were from Comedy Hour). Likewise for the Sabrina segments, combining both existing and new footage under the name "Sabrina The Teenage Witch". An alternative version of the opening theme with Sabrina's name being spelled out twice over after Archie's name was used as the opening for Comedy Hour. The only person of Archie's "new pals" (plural) to have been introduced was Sabrina, unless you count Salem. This was re-broadcast on CBS later in 1970 as "Archie's Sugar, Sugar/Jingle Jangle Show" with "Sugar Sugar" and Jingle Jangle" promo videos edited in at the end.
Big Moose gets dragged into a school election to compete with Reggie, who hired Dilton to be his campaign manager. The Archies manage Moose and try to get him to act like former presidents to improve his character, which turns out to be more pressure than he can handle, leading to Veronica's house to get ransacked. While all this is going on, Sabrina, the new girl, is trying to make friends but can't seem to hold anyone's attention for too long, they either brush her off, or get dragged away. Both lines eventually merge when Moose runs into Sabrina in the school basement. He comforts her, telling her he'll be her friend then explains why he doesn't want political power. Sabrina encourages him to be himself and states she'll vote for him before boosting him to the final debate. The closing ballots gets tied since Dilton didn't think to vote, and he turns on Reggie and gives the vote to Moose, and he wins as a result.
This special was included on the Archie's Funhouse Complete Series DVD from 2008.

yell at me on Discord if I did something wrong, username - ahdollaryt my server - discord.gg/vcEFePTH Some additional trivia that wouldn't fit in the description There's a claim that the pronunciation of Moose's surname as "Manson" at 05:07 was changed to "Mason" in a later print following the outbreak of the Manson Murders that occurred around this time, but this print, which came from the DVD, retains the original "Manson" pronunciation. Additionally, all the wikis and stuff online about this special dates it to the 13th of September, 1969, a little more than a month after the murders. I think this change applied to Moose's character as a whole in subsequent comics and television, not necessarily this program. ([Edit 10/12/2022] I've since been made aware that even this dating was a bit off, the first broadcast was on the evening of 14 September 1969, the first broadcast of "Comedy Hour" was the morning prior on the 13th, IMDb has the correct date, while Internet Archive has the 13th dating, this may refer to the first "Comedy Hour" airing, and I was probably high on Adderall and Xanax on the day I published this) There were actually a handful of Pals adverts that were included in the commercial breaks for this in addition to the sponsor, which were disregarded for this remastered print. It would've been interesting to see those in newer colors. Another claim was that Filmation wanted to do a cartoon version of the sitcom "Bewitched", but couldn't because they weren't able to get the rights to that property. Their urge for third party black magic was set in stone before they even realized it, as they discovered that the Archie comic franchise already had Sabrina, who pre-dated "Bewitched" by a little less than two years. A rather minor (but rising) character by the time this was released. The referenced alternative first print in the description (here's a more mobile-friendly YT link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HDDP8NoHPqA.html&ab_channel=MYXSTUDIOSINC.) was uploaded in anamorphic, not stretched back to the original 4:3 aspect ratio. It's interesting to note though that despite this, you get slightly more along the left, right, and bottom of the video frame in that version than in this remastered version. You can view some comparison shots here: the-archie-show.fandom.com/wiki/Archie_and_His_New_Pals This program is full of animation presets that went mostly unused in subsequent Archie/Sabrina content. I suppose it kind of had to be since it was sort of a special event, enabling the animators to go nuts. It was incredibly refreshing to not see the same 800 presets being recycled 21 trillion times. [Edit 08/09/2022] Something that never crossed my mind when I uploaded this was that it will have turned 53 years old come September. Sabrina as a character will have turned 60 come October. The 22nd issue of the "Archie's Madhouse" comic book magazine was her introduction into the franchise. The writers of the "Riverdale" show went back to this by having Kiernan Shipka, who of course portrays Sabrina in the new Archie/Sabrina franchise dress in the same white and red outfit with black belt as in that comic from October 1962 in the now infamous scene of the show where she meets Jughead at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe. Mind you, I haven't seen anything much of this new franchise, and I don't intend I ever will, because I only ever hear nothing but bad things about it regarding the story. I don't hear anything bad about the casting, which seems fine, apart from that they are generally unlikable due to the poor writing as so I've been told. Additional thoughts Watching this with the knowledge that it was special took me back to my childhood in the 2000s and even early 2010s watching special TV programs with my siblings around the living room television in 480i, stereo, and with commercials as well, despite how much hate they get. Turns out that such an experience had as much charm in the 2000s as it did in the 1960s. The only things that have changed being the added online interactivity. And now it seems, in the age of HDTV and 4K, that magic has largely faded, at least with my family, I can't speak for everyone else, though I can imagine it's very similar in most cases. With everyone watching stuff on streaming platforms by the season, TV specials just aren't as fun as they used to be. I'm like 97% certain that this is why Reggie was always after Sabrina in subsequent Archie/Sabrina content. In Moose's closing speech, he specifically thanks Sabrina for encouraging him to even dare finish. At 22:38, Reggie says he's fine with the outcome, but in reality probably lost some sleep over it. Remembering her name, he must've made it his life's mission to try to dig up something about her to denounce her, and in the process, accidentally discovered that she's an apprentice witch. Remember that this is just me talking hot trash, not confirmed lore. This of course is quite an appropriate time to upload this, given the context of the school election. I'm not voting by the way in this year's midterms, in case you were wondering, just because I'm pretty cooked on elections. And that's not all, the whole arc of Sabrina not being able to communicate with anyone kind of hits home more than I remember. This whole thing is everything I hate, all rolled into one. Politics, loneliness, and I have to be stupid accurate with these details. But hey, at least there's no interlacing artifacts. As we've seen, this one 25 1/2 minute program has a lot of interesting history and speculation surrounding it, which is kind of the reason I've put it off for this long. I unrolled a log, and a ton of ants scattered in all directions. I may not have everything correct, so correct me if there's something that's wrong or missing.

For the record, "ARCHIE AND HIS NEW PALS was a CBS Primetime TV special that aired on September 14, 1969, a day after the CBS Saturday Morning debut of "THE ARCHIE COMEDY HOUR". The song, "Get On The Line", was used in the closing credits of this Filmation Associates produced TV special, which was at the height of "THE ARCHIES" major success following the release of "Sugar, Sugar", and around five Calendar LP Record albums that were officially released between 1968 and 1971. Don Kirshner, the man who also helped make NBC's "THE MONKEES" (Raybert Productions and Screen Gems) a huge hit with all their music, was also the same man responsible for "The Archies" music from 1968 to 1970. Filmation Associates produced all the ARCHIE cartoons from 1968 to 1977 through various formats, and was also the leading Saturday Morning dominator throughout their full decade run on Saturday Morning TV. The original Filmation cartoons are now owned by DreamWorks and NBC/Universal.

Originally sponsored by Bristol-Myers' Pals vitamins. Here's a middle commercial (appearing at 15:03), with Archie appearing at the beginning and end: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VuooiXIvMA0.html

Fred Silverman had a hand in creating this special. When he was programming CBS' Saturday morning schedules from 1963 through 1975, he was the one who saw possibilities in scheduling an "ARCHIE" series in 1968 (during the transition from an "all-supehero" lineup to emphasizing "comedy" cartoons- including "ARCHIE", "WACKY RACES", and "THE BUGS BUNNY/ROAD RUNNER HOUR"). When he expanded "ARCHIE" into a full hour {as "THE ARCHIE COMEDY HOUR", in 1969}, he also saw possibilities in adding Sabrina, who'd already been featured in the "Archie's Mad House" comic book for seven years; supposedly, when she was initially "pitched" to him, he went nuts over her {"Hey, she's a *great* idea! Who IS she? She's like Samantha from 'BEWITCHED'!!!! I want her on the show!!!!"}]. A year later, he featured her in her own series, "SABRINA AND THE GROOVIE GOOLIES".

@@fromthesidelines Lou Scheimer attempted to make a "BEWITCHED" animated series, but Screen Gems, with Hanna-Barbera Productions, who were both associated with their businesses in the 1960s, obviously shot down that idea. but, someone at Archie Comics told Lou Scheimer that there was a character that they first published in 1963-a character named "Sabrina", and the rest became history!

And Fred Silverman KNEW how to exploit and capitalize on certain characters that had potential as "spin-offs".

@@MONGOOSE1ful Sort of an irony there since after Archie's success Silverman requested Hanna-Barbera to make a clone series. Thus we got "Scooby-Doo Where Are You" the following year. History repeats itself.

Seems more wholesome than anything I've seen from the recent Riverdale/Chilling Adventures franchise Also, for your Moose x Sabrina needs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nb5-cPZgzoU.html&ab_channel=AhDollar (skip to 09:16)

It feels like the writers stepped up their game a little, so maybe they knew this was for prime time? You have to forgive that one of the best lines is really too smart for the character: Moose says, "I thought I was presidential timber, but my friends think I'm a blockhead!" Also amazing that we don't see much recycled animation; it all looks new! And supposedly this was only ever repeated one time, and wasn't put in the rotation of the series and endlessly repeated. Perhaps also the writing was a step above since George Gladir, one of the regular Archie comic book artists and writers of the day AND also co-creator of the Sabrina character, is credited as a writer here.

CBS probably helped gave Filmation more money for this special along with Bristol Myers who was the sponsor.
