My generation in Africa Johannesburg never had a chance to see or meet these guys personnel , but this channel makes a difference in our life to get a picture of how it would be if we met them inperson. But one great thing about us is that we know so much about them and we collected almost everyone of their albums. The channel balance the equation of what we know and what we missed . We are in a more favourable position to comprehend the respect and the relationship that existed among the guys.

The power of their individual spirits is reflected in the emotion of their music.

Love the way Archie plays ballads, never heard anybody give you that much meat in a very finely crafted ballad.

It was in Chicago, at the Down Beat Jazz Festival that I saw Trane and Shepp together. My friend and I had taken mescaline. The music proceeded into the "wailing" sound and the audience was not thrilled. My friend and I were riveted! What a wail that was! We loved every second of it! I was blessed to see Trane several times when I was in my teens, mostly at a club on Delmar in St. Louis called Gino's.

That was a very historic concert.

@@JazzVideoGuy That's interesting, Brett. I never thought of it as history, but it was! Every other act we heard has vanished from memory. Who else played that day? I have no clue. I was there, but I have no clue. I can't wait for the Albert Ayler section. I bought the ESP recordings as they came out. In Detroit I played drums with a pianist named Burrton Greene. I wasn't very good yet but I remember a moment when I locked in and played!

@@JazzVideoGuy That is an astonishing bit of historical research. I was there, and it had to have been on Sunday. I know who I was with and I know what I heard when Trane and Shepp played. just smack me, amigo, I'm impressed (and pleased).

You should find the book FREE JAZZ COMMUNISM by Shepp published by Rab-Rab Press, it shows young people are continuing his tradition ... Archie Shepp forever, I love him - his ballads ate so great - and all his politics too.
