Asides from the obvious thematic similarities, they are very different games. Pillars is classic worker placement, Architects a reinterpretation of worker placement. It's a case of two games looking a lot alike, but occupying quite different gameplay spaces. So, honestly, i recommend both, or whatever one suits your style more. If you want a faster paced game, go for architects.
