For the last month I've been watching Brent Hull and also the passion for craft like crazy and I'm doing the same thing Richard. Every time I go through an old neighborhood I'm studying the houses and things are finally making sense.

If there is anyone interested in the many books there are on Architecture & the history of it, you might look into two of the big ones, considered the “Bibles” when it comes to this. The first is The Ten Books On Architecture by Vitruvius with an English translation. Vitruvius was a first century BC Roman architect and his books are the most influential in history on the subject. The second one is jumping ahead to the 20th century & called The History Of Architecture by Sir Bannister Fletcher. There is also a double volume of his called Global History Of Architecture. This is required reading for almost all students of architecture. The Ten Books I have & read many years ago and it helps you understand the basis of classical building…all the why’s & wherefore. The Bannister Fletcher Book I also have, have not looked at it in 35+ years. It’s huge and is best used as a reference. Also new ones are very pricey.

@JerrySmith-ih9rd
@JerrySmith-ih9rd Год назад
There are different entablatures for the different “Greek orders” of architecture. With each type of column for instance, there had to be a certain base and a capital on it, along with an entablature. In Ancient Greek architecture there are three orders, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Later, after the Romans adopted the styles, they added the Tuscan and Composite orders, each with its own story. Since the Romans were the second ones to have it, most of the meanings and descriptions of the parts of the orders are in Latin. And yes, the ‘golden ratio’ (Fibonacci) was always in place. (A whole other field of study)

How to remember the names of an entablature - After having too many a CORONA you feel a little cold, so you climb into a BED full of MOULD because you don’t want to FRIEZE. While laying there your foot gets itchy & you remember you have TENIA, you can’t scratch it so you keep your hands up by you FASCIA. Now the beers are starting to wear off your DENTAL BAND is beginning to hurt again. So you put a reminder in your phone to call your dentist in the morning….his name just so happens to be Archibald Travis or more commonly know as ARCHITRAVE. He tells you that there’s something wrong with your MODILLION COURSE and that it’s missing a QUARTER ROUND, so you have a tooth looking like a COVE! He tells you a price and your hip pocket feels like it’s been hit with a RAISED PANEL and you ask him could he just do a quick CROWN MOULD? He replies saying that it’s just not his STILE and would prefer to apply some RAILS to the outside of your teeth. You know you’ll get bullied for having braces but you know in the future you will have teeth smoother than a RAKING SIMA. Moral of the story….I don’t know I just got a little carried away😅 Always start off with a Corona🤷🏼‍♂️
