Does Vortex do this? It merges every time you deploy mods. Sorry, I switched to pc like a year ago and I started with Vortex and have never used MO2. And I can't find an answer anywhere.

@@TOVOTmarcolonna It still works fine, but I suggest to still look at the conflict in xEdit as it may not resolve all the conflict.

As I said in a previous video, LOVE your stuff! Just a quick update on Mator Smash (If you can add an annotation to your video): As of Version 1.0.0, the integration tab is no longer necessary for Mator Smash.

Thanks for the video! So, Michael, what is your opinion on Mator Smash? Is it, as of now, better to use it than Merged + Bashed patch via Wrye Bash and xEdit? I tried to look things up myself, but it looks a bit confusing - STEP wiki guide is telling that Smash is still very alpha and unreliable, but the current version is already 1.0.2(so not Alpha, i guess?), and even the version in the video(0.4. something, i guess?) is very competent.

great video. sadly found this about a day after i needed it but i'm glad to see i wasn't doing anything stupid. do hope you upload the xedit companion video for this soon, if only to again validate i'm not being stupid with my own setup.

You've re-titled this as archived -- has it been replaced? I've read through the description and pinned comment, and if there's a link, I'm missing it (sorry!). I've been reading discussions online about Wrye Bash vs. Mator Smash, and I've seen a lot of people recommending Mator Smash. What are your thoughts?

Another excellent video, Micheal. Quick question though: when using MO, why did you select the game's actual data folder as the patch destination directory under the Patching tab? Mator Smash defaulted to my MO mod folder when I clicked Detect Integrations and built the patch there. I just had to refresh and activated the patch. Any specific reason in selecting the actual data folder? Thanks.

Michael! The TES5Edit patch+Bashed patch+Wintermyst patch with the Immersive Jewelry mod was kind of complicated to put together. It's not that hard we must just follow the right order. So my question is, currently in this case no such complications here with mator smash patch? And prime tutorial as always Thank you!

Michael, just want to say a big THANKS for this. I just did say thx financially also. My game now runs smoother, prettier and more complete with, so far, zero CTDs. Haven't seen game improvement like this since crash fix came out. One last thing - To all those 25k that subscribe & use Michael's very helpful vids - I'll bet at least 250-500 of you can easily afford a lousy 10 bucks a month to keep Michael going & well exceed his Patreon goal. If you have a smidgen of understanding reciprocity you'll realize you don't great value for nothing. He always gets lots of good words with all his vids & still can't get to measly $600 a month. I see a lot of talkers but not many walkers.

Thanks for making this, just have one question: I'm trying to use this for Fo4, and the program doesn't come with pre-made settings for Fo4. Would it be safe to duplicate the Skyrim Smash settings folder and rename the folder to Fallout4? Thanks

Hello Michael, I have a question: Is there any option to enable a "Tweak Settings" option for the patch? As an old user of Wyre Bashed Patch I cannot live with the timescale above 12! Or: Is secure to make a bashed patch from wyre bash only activating the "Tweak Settings" option safely with this? Thank you for your work, really appreciated.

Whenever I try to make the patch for Fallout 4 in MO 2 I get the message "Critical exception adding masters! "NewPatch.esp" requires master "Tactical Flashlights.esp" to be loaded before it." I tried removing the plugin altogether but it just changes to asking for a different esp each time. I'm not aware of how exactly one would load a eps higher in the load order before an eps that I'm trying to make. Is this just MO 2 buggering up again?

As always, great job on this.After watching, I am now trying this app out.I have a question...Information first, I am using Mod organizer for Skyrim.Onto my question, under the patching tab you state to have the "Patch Destination Directory" point to the game Data folder.After clicking the I'm using Mod Organizer check box, it is point the patch location to the MO mods folder.Using MO I can see that actually making sense, as a .esp in the game Data folder become an unmanaged item in the profile pane...Or is that the way this is supposed to work?

You're best chatting with Mator in the STEP forums = ) I've already scrambled the info from my mind lol = ) ... Mator is apparently working on implementing Smash, Merge Plugins and many other things into what will be known as zEdit. At that point the process may change so I'm trying to let the information go so that I don't get confused when the time comes. Always researching too many things = ) -Michael

Yeah, pretty much everything that is in this video is gone in the newer versions. Plus, it would be nice with a guide on how to solve the conflicts in the merged patch. Because there will always be a conflict somewhere no matter what, but you can solve them with xEdit. I have no idea how though.

Yeah, the new one just crashes my game w/ the Smashed Patch because there's some post-patch editing that I apparently need to do I thought it was a "1-click super patch" but I was mistaken , lol Probably why he added an [Archived] tag to this video

just a bit of something to note: If Smash merges NPC overhaul esp's and you have grey faces you might want to exclude these npc replacers from merging. This, in my experience, is only a problem when using virtual file systems like Mod Organizer. This doesn't always happen, but it happens. As stated, this is a problem with MO, not Smash, so don't bug Mator about it (or Michael). I recommend merging the NPC replacer esp's Smash wants to with any other esp's it wants first. Then, if you do have grey faces, simply remake your Smash patch, excluding the npc replacers from the patch.

Yah, I always make a "npcmerge.esp" and place it at the bottom of all my mods that edit esp's. Then I use Mator's Merge Plugins tool to merge the replacers together (checking to make sure all the assets were properly ported first). This puts a NPCMasterMerge.esp below all mods that edit npc's that I then apply any ability, quest related, or environmental changes made by other mods to the npc's in the MasterMerge. Doing this makes it so I never really need to merge named npc's into generated patches as I manually add the changes the patchers would make. Also gives me finer control of what my npc's look like and behave like. Yes, it's a stupid amount of work, but I like my Skyrim to be defined by the people in it, so I'm picky (and, maybe, a little masochistic) about it. As a side effect I have a virtually encyclopedic knowledge of most of the NPC's in Skyrim, lol!!

Great Install. MO2 and Smash are updated so some of the installation instructions are not necessary. I am looking forward to the length Advanced Video(s). As well as the various uses - as conflicts resolution - and - how it works in sync with Merged Plug-Ins. I am fairly new though it is my understanding that you can Smash smaller sections prior to using Merged Plug-Ins as well as eventually the larger set. One problem is that people seem to have different ideas as to how to use and what is the right use. Videos to date have been super basic without much in the way of details.

Meh, finishing the game on stream isn't important. Nobody finishes Skyrim! It's the BS'n with chat that's important. Watching mods ban trolls is very theraputic...

I've been using Mator Smash for over a year now, and it's a useful program for strategically defying the 'rule of one'. For example, it has allowed me to keep all of CACO's alch stats while simultaneously running a half dozen other potion texture mods that each provide their own pretty models for potion and liquor bottles. But in my experience it doesn't always forward all the records to the smash patch that it's supposed to. I have to maintain a 'smash fixes' esp to correct the handful of records that it ALWAYS fails to forward properly. For example, using precise custom settings, Smash will correctly forward hundreds of conflicted CELL lighting records from ELFX, but there's always about a dozen of those conflicted ELFX records that mysteriously don't make it to the smash patch that I have to correct manually in order to prevent them from being overwritten by mods lower in my load order.

I left this behind me after the video was complete. Spoke with mator not long after I uploaded it and he has decided to combine all of his projects into one under the name zEdit (merge plugins, smash, so on). So all updates, bug fixes and what not will be done there. I don't think he has uploaded a public release yet but I've been focused on my FO3 series for a while now. -Michael

Is this information now outdated? If so, do you have more recent instructions on this process? Also, if I drop my Merged/Bashed patches from my current play-through and switch to a new Smashed patch instead, will this cause issues? Or should I begin a new game?

Hello, I have a question. In the video, it is recommended to select the 'Smash.All' setting for ALL plugins. However, some of the plugins in my mod list already have a Smash setting : Bash.Names, Bash.Graphics, Bash.Relev, or Bash.Combined-*code*. Why do certain files already have a specific setting ? Should I leave these files' Smash settings as is, or change to Smash.All ? Do I really need to Smash all plugins or only the ones with these specific settings ? I assume that Smash.All is a simpler option, but I feel like these settings exist for a reason. Thanks to Mator for creating such a great tool, and thanks to whoever will take the time to answer my question EDIT : Of course, this tutorial is very easy to understand and follow, as all the others

Do you plan on doing a more updated video in the future, or will you wait for a stable zEdit release? I ask mostly because this video mentions merging redundant plugins a few times, a functionality that was removed.

I've just downloaded Mator Smash with the intent of using it to replace Wrye Bash and xEdit for patch-building. I've noticed that a number of the functions mentioned in this video during set-up no longer seem to exist, including patch merging and linking Mator Smash to an MO instance. Do you know if Mator Smash and MO are still compatible? Can it still be used to merge plugins, or should I stick with Wrye Bash? Thank you for your help!

Mator Smash and MO are still fully compatible; just launch MS through MO and it'll properly retrieve your load order and mods. The integrations stuff was removed because of redundancy. Mator Smash, as I mentioned, cannot merge plugins on its own: this is because MS can only load 254 plugins at a time, and each time you rebuild the patch you need to include all of the plugins used, so it would be unable to merge down any of your mods if you had more than Skyrim's allowed 255. Because of this the author, matortheeternal, removed the notice about redundant plugins as disabling them doesn't change anything significant. However, MS does work well with the Merge Plugins program (the author does not recommend using the xEdit script); on the Nexus the author recommended making a smashed patch for any mods you wished to merge, and then using MP to merge all of those mods _and_ the smashed patch, and finally using MS again to make a smashed patch of your whole load order. MS is, or at least is intended to be, more thorough than Wryebash, allowing many more types of records to be combined than a bashed patch allows. However, it's not a perfect program, and you might want to verify that everything important was smashed correctly with xEdit after using it. It also doesn't offer some of the finer tweaks Wryebash does. I hope this was helpful.

It worked fine for my Skyrim SE setup, but it's not allowing me to select the Smash Setting at 6:50 for Fallout 3, as there's no arrow there to pull down. Any idea why?

since the current version doesn't give you the option to see which esp's are now redundant (or at least i couldn't find it) how should we now (current version) see redundant esp's or is another program (like wrye) needed?

Does this still only work with fo4 and skyrim se? I figured I'd give it a shot on new vegas seeing as I saw it in the new vegas folder at 2:02 but there is no sub-menu for smash setting when I select the plugins I wish.

I have not watched the whole video yet but i got some doubts. I am not new to modding but the merging side of it always confuses me a bit. For the sake of OCD and mere desire of "controlling everything" is it possible to use this program to "regroup" similar .esp files ? Example: (armor1.esp + armor2.esp+... +armorN.esp) -> Armors.esp and at the same time having something like (customweapon1.esp + customweapon2 +... + customweaponN.esp) -> Weapons.esp ? There are some restrictions in this sense? Is that i often use several little mods that do one single thing in the game instead of few major overhauling mods. I would like to manages mods without packing all up. If something i said sounds dumb, well, scratch that, it's probably dumb.

Smash isn't for merging mods (even though it does). It's for consolidating mods in a way that helps them function better by having more records work with each other instead of overwriting each other (overwriting still happens though). Same as a Bash and Merged Patch with some extra functions (the video shows the steps for the "simple" bash and merge replacer... extra steps I still need to learn to get the most out of it). If you are wanting to merge mods together (ex: groups of armor mods) you want to use Mator's Merge Plugins Standalone program. Video of that is on the channel. I think that's what you were looking for.... -Michael

Ohhh. I see. I have used Merge Plugins on Oldrim but i will rewatch the video if it fit nicely with SSE. Thanks for the answer the overwriting records were probably the thing i was not really catching :D.

Is this newer version supposed to be absent of the "merge redundant plugins" and integration page? Because I don't have these options on mine. I may have installed it wrong because I accidentally put it in the game folder and had to delete it then put it in the folder I had created within the game folder.

I've wanted something like this for my FO4 list, however I'm running into a similar problem that I had with the Merge Plugins tutorial. These programs are attempting to load FO4's DLC (nuka, coast, and robot) after mods that require them to be loaded first (FO4 unofficial patch, true storms, keywords, etc). What ends up happening is that I cannot attempt anything within this tutorial. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the video. I have a question for you if that’s ok. Or maybe someone else has the time to answer me. I have done my own modlist. It’s 682 mods and 708 plugins. I have downloaded all plugins Loot wanted me to + alot more that i found by myself reading on mods at Nexus. My load order works very well. There is one load order error I know. It’s Immersive weapons + AI Overhaul and one more immersive weapon patch. If i run them after some of my NPC overhauls i get black faces. So if I run it before the NPC overhauls I guess these two Immersive weapons patches will be overwritten and have no real function. So now when i am finished (I have Dyndolod left to run tho), should I continue with bashed patches or one big smashed patch? I don’t know if I have brain enough to understand how to create bashed patches for the whole modlist by myself. There are so many mods so I don’t know where to begin if trying to create patches on my own. Best Regards.

Hello! I have watched all your skyrim moding related video and they are super useful! But this Mator Smash video is a bit too long.. maybe its time to do a update version? Or even a combine with wrye bash and synthesis! Anyway thanks for all the effort!

i tried using mator smash and had the cart flip after a new game in the intro so i decided to use wrye bash instead and everything works perfect

A few questions on usage, perhaps dumb ones, but ones asked as a result of great passion. I tend to run seriously modded games, with very staggering mod counts. I'm coming back to two new utilities that are making all my previous modding dreams very much a reality; MatorSmash, and Merge Plugins standalone. I'm building my most extensive load order yet, and hope to be able to share a successful implementation on Modpicker once this is all said and done. But in order to get there, I've been meticulously considering my methods. 1: I believe Merge Plugins standalone is limited to examining only as many items as is allowed by the load order of the game in question. If I am correct, this is fine. Is this also the case for MatorSmash? If so, this is also fine. 2: If MatorSmash is limited to Skyrim's maximum plugin count, and a user has a load order in excess of this, I am curious as to how I should proceed. Would the most reasonable course of action be to Smash mods that function alike, remove redundant plugins after checking with TESVEdit, and then make the best potential Merged Plugin of those mods with their respective patch? Effectively Smashing multiple times, would a broader Smash even be necessary at that point? If so, how might this affect redundancies? I personally don't think I'd be too concerned about it, as long as it managed to secure me a safe distance from the maximum load order. 3: If MatorSmash is not limited to Skyrim's maximum plugin count, would it be more effective to make Merged Patches and run Merge Plugins extensively before running Smash just once? Would MatorSmash be more useful than a Merged Patch in this case, and simply mimic the situation in the previous question/example? This is all, of course, assuming that I can produce a load order that will function at this extreme sort of load-order. Suffice it to say, I believe I can without too much trouble. It's all just a matter of installing groups of mods, testing the group, comparing it to other finished groups, and pruning to success. EDIT: Also! Thank you for making such a distinct use of your time to help all of us modders out here in the internet land.

This tutorial is sadly no longer applicable, specially if using MO2 which I am. Please consider updating? I know you are busy. By the way, is the music from Ultima ? The old rpg, like Ultima 7? I love the melody. The first time I played this I heard it and just listened for like 5 minutes. Heard nothing you said and had to restart video. I grew up playing Ultima 1 to 7.

I'm confuzzled... the resulting file of the process for me is "SmashedPatch.esp.save" there is no file that is just "SmashedPatch.esp"... did I miss a step (watched it about 4 times and didn't see anything I was missing)... do I need to manually renamed the .esp.save to just a .esp?

No, I have no solution so I run today with the bashed patch and Tes5 Merged plug. So I do not use Mator Smash.

Probably too late but you can use Bashed Patch to tweak settings and then use Mator Smash for everything else

Hey, When I use this program for fallout 4, the option for smash.all doesn't appear. Im using MO2 so at this point Im assuming its a MO2 Bug

I wasn't able to click OK at 3:37 unless i unchecked every mod, and also the Integrations tab in Settings seems to be missing in the newest version... It's gonna be another long night XD (i have about 800 active plugins)

many of the smash tabs are different now. Don't freak out, it seems you no longer need the integrations tab with MO2. Once your patch is finished, the esp is automatically placed in your Overwrite folder. I'm not seeing a merge redundant plugins tab anymore though? Use this for the settings we used to change in Wyre Bash www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18249?tab=files

hi i know i am way behind the times but i hope somebody could answer my question. Is it fine if i dont rebuild the patch and just exclude the mods that have their own patch ( I use DSR, CGO and AGO which is patched by Nemesis Unli Engine) from the Smash patch?

If you use Smash (older or newer versions) you don't use a bashed patch with it. One or the other = ) -Michael

From the Mator Smash Nexus Page: "Q: Older versions of smash had a feature to "merge redundant plugins", similar to what Wrye Bash does, why doesn't smash have this feature anymore? A: Smash is built on the xEdit framework, and the xEdit framework is not capable of loading more than 255 plugins (and likely never will be). Because of this limitation, smash merging plugins comprised entirely of overrides would be purely placebo and wouldn't actually create space in your load order. Posted this on Mator's channel, but thought I'd post here as well, and see if any one can help; I love this idea (thanks to GamerPoets for telling me about it), and I've been using it for Skyrim with no problems at all. For Fallout 4, though, there's no subfolder in the "Settings" folder, for Fallout 4. I assume I can't just copy the files from Skyrim over, and use those? :)

I'm with you until you get to the plug in menu but the ok button is dim and won't let me click it. Same for a few plug ins as well. Any ideas why this is? One of them is the unofficial Skyrim special edition patch

Haven't tested it enough to give you a proper response from me. The others work so use them if you feel safer. Mator is working on zSmash which replaces this and I'm personally moving away from auto-patches all together. Doing a manual merging/patching series after MO2. -Michael

Ok, so I got it to work. this is by far not the correct way to do things and use at your own risk, but what I did is, Inside the Mator Smash folder, there is a folder with settings. Inside the settings there is (at least in my folder) a Skyrim folder and a FO4 Folder. in the Skyrim folder, there are a bunch of json files. in the FO4 folder it was empty. I basically copied from Skyrim folder to FO4 folder and it seems to work. I checked it in xEdit and it seems to be ok. I know this is not exactly correct as the json files are for skyrim and not FO4 but it worked for me thus far. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

Gonna stick with merged+bashed for now. Not enough information available about this and apparently the merged plugin option is gone now, heard it conflicts with Physics stuff also.

I have a feeling you left out an important part of this video: What it does. I just use Wrye Bash for leveled lists and never had a problem... am i missing something here? Do these patches serve a different purpose or magically clean bad records for me?

Ok so this is the best clue i could find. I guess it does something with "tags" and iv found hints on reddit to it being capable of patching togeather leveled lists of mods inside of a merged mod so wrye bash can recognise them... (currently there is no known way to merge several mods that have 2 .esp's with leveled lists and a patch for their conflicts and have anything show in game) my brain is melting. Or start with knowledge of your capacity to learn and have the patience to watch your tutorials and read every Reddit and youtube post as well as backup your files. as you put in a cartoon snip in your Merge Plugins tutorial; "wait one hour before topping off" ^paraphrasing^ this was sound advice for someone like me who works a full time job in security were i have to adapt and learn over 60+ passwords/Truck#/TruckLogos/employeenames/networksoftware/passwords/policies a day my game just became work with this lol i should also remember to thank you as you and Mator are the only detailed explanations that have lead me anywhere. as an old modder and dev i understand how remarkable your work is. Id only add that you give merge plugins too much credit for something that does a soft install as im in a circle of 8 non-nexus modders that all use NMM to be able to swap an installation that are pre-modded with hard installs of all mods in one place with way less steps than ModO NMM placing files strait to the directory makes it possible to swap drives and OS with a one click overwrite from a SSD backup this is already a book long post but i came back to make one last edit because im reading into your response as negative. As a subscriber id ask that you delete these posts since they are bumped to the top and it kind of looks bad that you appear to be short with me for not understanding the introduction of this tool. Id like you to succeed with as many subs as you can get and i didnt mean to seem like i was calling you out on anything. I just wanted a more thorough intro containing info on what tags do and how they are handled differently, what functional differences are for someone like me who just needs to get plugins merged and working properly, exc. Your merge plugins tutorial is already obsolete as the installation screen and options and settings look and function entirely different than what your tutorial shows.

My comment to you wasn't to be short (other than the time it took to write it lol) it was meant to be plain and honest. If someone doesn't know what Smash is they shouldnt use it. It's not a necessity to use a program like this though it does have the potential of being greatly beneficial to some. I didn't think that you were calling me out but I appreciate you taking the time to clarify = ) Our correspondence is between you and I if someone else wants to take it negatively thats up to them friend = ) I don't see anything negative in what you have said either. If you've been a subscriber for a while you may know that I don't respond to people who I think are attacking me in any form I just get rid of them so I don't have to deal with more comments down the road. I meant it. If you don't know what's it for or what extra it cant provide don't use it lol... especially now. Mator is combing all of is programs into a single app called zEdit and that is where he will be supporting all of his projects in the future (meaning this app will be left in its current state). It will be called zSmash... as well as merge plugins being called zMerge.. .so on and bundled all together. I dont use this and I couldn't tell you all of the ins and outs of it. Knowing me i would have called the video Start to Finish and told you all of the stuff you dont want to know about it = ) -Michael

Thanks for the response =) a few hours as opposed to 3 months average on Reddit/TESV forums lol So then perhaps i can ask a question and you can tell me Wrye bash+Merge plugin or Smash+merge plugin as your recommendation. I passed the 240 plugin count last year by trying to update mods that now have several patches taking me past 256 to 287. As many of the mods have personal edits and patches i would never know how to rebuild i am stuck trying to learn these new tools to fix my load order to allow everything and maybe more. I develop in a different workflow for cryengine and im over my head with trying to find a large enough resource to get this pack together. NONE of my merges using your previous merge plugins tutorials worked as 9/10 of these mods have scripts or leveled lists. Either im at full mental capacity or im not getting the right answers to the complex questions of what works and what doesnt. So Wrye bash+Merge plugin or Smash+merge? which is most user friendly to learn with the limited help reddit has on the old bash and new smash?

@@gamerpoets Quick Question, I recently used the patch and now I'm unable to delete/re-install any of the mods that were patched. I am able to delete any mods that I installed after but just not the ones that were patched

Funny enough, I have 230+ plugins, mainly Legacy of the Dragonborn, Vokrii, CCOR, MLU, and Advanced Adversary Encounters patches. Selected all plugins except Skyrim.esm, but result does not show any redundant plugin. EDIT: Nvm, I think I read the changelog mention that feature has been removed.
