Dr. Paula Uruburu, Hofstra University Professor of English, discusses scandal and celebrity culture and reads a passage from her book, American Eve: Evelyn Nesbit, Stanford White: The Birth of the "It" Girl and the Crime of the Century.
Great book! Interesting story and entertaining history lesson; I know more about the early 20th century now, the "gilded age." I hope she writes some more.
When mentioning that Evelyn had no talent, did you take into consideration her job as the Spanish Dancer in the Floradora show at the age of 15-17; she must have been able to dance to pull that off? If not for that job she probably never would have met White or Thaw. I feel that this East Coast story was the first in modern history to divert news and attention away from the recovery of the great San Francisco Earth Quake and Fire that occured a few months prior; a practice quite popular now.
