Interesting take, +1 to your subs. Although you haven't presented any alternatives to the "universal story", I hope to find it in your other videos since this is the first one I've watched. But for now - great stuff. Excited to see more. Thank you.

Hi Sergey! Yes, talking about alternatives to archplot is a HUGE topic. I am working on an online course all about alternative structures and plots. I do plan to make some videos as well. Thanks for stopping by!

This was effective in describing the parts of archplot, including the throwing off balancea and the external causality, but I think it's a bit clickbaity to say that all theorists that explain it and defend its virtues, deny the existence of other forms of story. Take Robert McKee. He lets you know why archplot is more effective with audiences: most people experience their lives as reversals of values that change through motivated action and conflict. And yet he is very clear that other forms of story may be the most appropriate to reflect your worldview. However, since the other forms of story are reactions to archplot, to be versed in another form of story you have to be versed in archplot. It's kind of like how in math you must be versed in positive numbers before attempting to deal with negative numbers, or heck even complex numbers! It's also problematic to think that archplot necessarily follows the chart you show us. You could deviate from that chart and still have an archplot -with its external causality, change of values through conflict, a coherent sense of time, etc.. Some theorists may suggest such structure, and this would reveal something about archplot: it's not all the same. Different theorists have different ways of dealing with it. I would be suspicious of people who shove the story into charts, but not of people who give you tools as to how to think about the rules of your story universe through archplot. Once again, I'd read McKee to see a non-shoved view of archplot.

A lot of words without saying much. You want to write good antiplot or nonplot? Master the archplot.

I totally agree that the archplot should be mastered before going into other types of stories. But I think she did a good job of describing the general characteristics of it, even though not all theorists deny other types of stories and not all archplots follow her chart.

What a waste of time that was.
