“Fios e linhas” (Portuguese, “wires and lines”) places the single-stringed Afro-Brazilian berimbau musical bow as an “inner voice” within a percussion ensemble context. At various points, the music makes reference to Luciano Berio's "Linea" and Pat Metheny's "Tell Her You Saw Me."
"Fios e linhas" was commissioned by I-Jen Fang and the University of Virginia Percussion Ensemble, to whom I am deeply grateful.
We captured this video on a lovely morning of Friday, August 19, 2022 on the campus of Northern Illinois University, underneath Alexander Calder's 1967 sculpture, "Le Baron."
This video is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency (IACA), a state agency.
