Super pumped that you guys are building that sled. I own one and the race chassis 440s are becoming more and more rare. Its going to be sweet to see what you guys do with it. Keep up the good work!
I got his big brother. A Firecat F7. Great sleds! Didn't think it would be so good in the pow, but it just plows through it like a champ! :) With the big bore, its gonna be a beast!
just thought I'd mention that the rear cooler has been added on, the 440's came with only the bulkhead cooler and it looks like the adjustable part of the steering is off an 06. I had one of these and loved it, the narrow tunnel really is a noticable difference from most sleds. ps. glad to see a cat in the lineup!!
an 05 AC in your quarters?? WOW! Now I don't feel so bad for driving a 1998 Ski Doo Mach 1 that has been completely restored, but of course, nobody on the trails would ever think that it was;)
I used to have a 440/700. very fun sled. these were cool because when skidoo came out with the Rev race sled arctic cat just modified the firecat to make it rider forward. if you compare it to a firecat you sit about a foot farther forward. these were always the quickest 440's back in the day
I just sold my 04 Snopro 440/600 EFI mod! When you do a track extension on this remember, you CANNOT use a Firecat track! Firecats are a 2.52 pitch and 04-07 snopro's are 3.0 pitch. The splines on the jackshaft and driveshaft are different from a Firecat so gearing is very herd to find. Watch for cracks in the bulkhead, cat's from this era were notorious for this. This is a very fun, light, and narrow chassis, you're in for a hell of a ride!
would love to see u mod up a srx700. they are wicked fast and very reliable. just pulled the cyls off of my 98 and they look like new .never been rebuilt and now has 22,000kms.
I think Louis is REALLY excited about this one. I'm not a cat guy (my buddies are). This will hopefully be an eye opener as to what a Cat really is, and what it can take.
Neat little fact Louie. Because those sleds were strictly designed for racing, they never came with a rear heat exchanger. Less weight, and with the snow conditions on the race track those sleds wouldn't have any issues with cooling. Someone added the cooling system form a Firecat to it, as in rear heat exchanger, and the exhangers on the side of the running boards. Also, that rear bumper is off of a Firecat as well.
I think you guys should pick up a Sno Pro 500. Put a 720 speedwerx big bore kit and make the first ever snopro 500 720 with a long track kit, would be a sick sled to add to the collection and a crazy boon docking sled, Maybe even make the first ever supercharged on, can never go wrong with that sled. or you could leave it stock... but we are taking about powermodz here haha.
Finally :-) Gives me more of a reason to watch !! I'm with you though(from previous video) I will ride any sled you put in front of me, I just prefer arctic cat at the moment. P.s. Make us cat fans proud!
I have the same sled and it didn't have the take off I thought it should and it turned out the primary clutch spring was broke. After I replaced it the sled is a rocketship. I recommend keeping it a short track for back country because you can "flick" it easier!!!
im pretty pumped you picked up a cat to tinker with.even though im a cat guy i watch all these videos, but i think i found my new favorite project! i just sold a snopro 440 myself actually not long ago, as i wanted to do a project similar to this but my other cats kept getting in the way lol. that being said id say whoever did the 600 started to trail convert it, as that rear cooler didnt come on the 440. looks to me like an F serious donated some parts to that little guy, but i cant wait to watch this project unfold!
Not another mountain mod!!! Love your videos Louie, but keep this one a short track!!! This sled would make a perfect ditch banger! 136" at the most. Personally I'd love to see a short track ditch banger build. I'm sure whatever you do it will be interesting, just my opinion..
Louie, I think your gonna love that sled. I have an 04 sabercat 700. Same firecat chassis, just set up a lil different. I ride it on the trails & ditch bang it. I upgraded from a 97 polaris ultra and i didn't feel it to be tipsy. Handles way better. Awsome power. Can't wait to see how your track upgrade goes. would love to stretch mine to 141.
Cool Im glad to see you do different sleds. It gives you a different perspective. Im a Polaris guy, but the sled Im working on is a mutt but its main chassis is a Polaris Ultra. I would really like to see a Polaris XCR 800 RMK build. Oh I see you got a Boondoker Turbo I think you should mod that engine and turbo it. Theres one on RU-vid, also you can really big bore those engines and mod them. Just a thought. Keep up the good work I enjoy it!!
Louis you should keep this one a 129"..... you already have enough mountain sleds. You should throw that 925 big bore in it and keep it as a ditch banger. Just my thoughts!
Having an 800 in a 440 chassis especially a sno pro chassis you're going to be having minor tweaks in mounts and minor things from all the torque that motor will be making unless you reinforce the chassis. I have a 97' zr440 and that alone is tearing sheet metal in certain places. But there clutches are pretty simple! Good luck, I cant wait for the finished product!
Just picked up a 2016 polaris switchback assault 800 with 378 miles for dirt cheap of my buddy who bought it stored it at my house and went on a 1 weekend ride with me so I had to grab it but I want a rmk 800 or 850 but wishful thinking for this year lol
the steering has a recall as the sled is a firecat it is just the factory race sled if you look under the hood at the steering shaft if it has been done there will be blocks on the steering to fix that however it will always have play in i know this because i have a firecat that was a snocross sled and was rebuilt by d and d racing you might also want to check the coolant system as those leak and another thing you might want to do is make sure your senadry shafty is alined and bearings are good or you will be shreding secondarys
Sweet a cat sno-pro at PowerModz HQ! Personally not a huge fan of narrowing the front, but not my sled. I'd rather see a hill climber or a nasty ditch/trail racer build but I know you don't do that much type of riding (I have a bone stock Firecat F6 in the stable). Either way, thrilled to see a new project. Can't wait to see a few of the others wrap up too, that mean VK among others! Keep up the great work Louis! Also, since you want to long track that sled, guessing you will cut down a15" ? Not sure how many they still make @+128" like the stock Firecat platform. They did make a 144 ext model, rails should swap, but nothing I know of that's longer that doesn't need to be trimmed to 13.5" wide. The tunnel won't fit a 15" track, need a crossfire or m series for that.
Correct, the skid width should be typical, its the tunnel that is narrow and requires the track to be cut down. You can do it yourself with a tablesaw, but places like TracksUSA are apparently offering trimming services now. My comment was more about the skid rail length. Wasn't sure if the plan was to swap to the 144" rails and call it good (everything should bolt up pretty similar to the 128" minus a couple changes IIRC) or go nuts (the Louis way!) and go custom skid like NexTech or w/e. Either way, stoked to see this project in the PowerModz HQ!
The coolant lines are for the flatslide carbs that would have been on it. The 800 is going to be a bit tight to fit in but your good with the fab work to fit it in there. Cant wait to see the final product!!
I'm 99% sure I have this exact sled, I bought it off of a guy about 2 months ago and he said he got the sled off of you guys. Just wondering if you guys have any idea on what year the engines from exactly.
Are you going to change the final drive to match all the Power of a 928? i have heard that the modern sleds can only get about 115 mph, thats all the tracks can handle, is this true? are going to produce build video's as you go?
you probably have to clean the power valves if it’s boggy at the start, that’s what happens with my cat and you have to clean the valves once a year or so
Pretty sure you ditched this project, since I saw a 440 tunnel on one of the elan/enticher mods. Anyways if you are doing it and stretching it I would like to see it. I have a 06
