I initially subscribed for Muse and NBT reactions, but I really wouldn't mind more Arctic Monkeys. They do change their sound a lot from album to album, though. This song is from Humbug, their third album and by far the darkest and most mysterious (as you mentioned, heavily influenced by Queens of the Stone Age). If you want some recommendations for AM: When the Sun Goes Down (from their first album, a lot more garage-rocky and rough around the edges, but a lot of fans swear by early AM), Brianstorm (from their second album, similar to the first one, but a bit more polished), 505 (also from second album, but a slower, more melancholic song), Crying Lightning (from Humbug), The Jeweler's Hands (similar feeling to Dance Little Liar), Do I Wanna Know (probably the most well known AM song, from their fifth album which is altogether a lot smoother and 'indie pop' sounding), R U Mine (also from fifth album, but a bit heavier). There's also the fourth album (a bit more Beatle-ish) and the latest, sixth album (a lot more bluesy and piano heavy), but I personally don't listen to these two as much so I can't really give you suggestions from those. Anyway, I understand that you have a lot of other reactions lined up, these are just some recommendations if you want to delve deeper into AM (also, a fair warning, like with most other bands, their newer stuff might be copyrighted, but you should be fine up to their fourth album, I reckon). You're reviews are very thorough and genuine and I really love them. Looking forward to your future content.
Great video and lyric breakdown! Arctic monkeys are my favourite band with every album having a different sound, and great lyrics throughout, Alex Turner is a genius imo. You definitely should get on the arctic monkeys train I’d love to see your reactions to the rest of their work, just subscribed!
I love that you got really into the lyrics...for me I always felt that it is about one big lie, and constantly trying to cover the tracks of it, but I’m not sure. If you don’t like the jarring sound of the music I’m not sure you’d like this album too much but another song on it with amazing lyrics was The Jewelers Hands.
I'm pretty sure that's my suggestion from one of the Queens of The Stone Age video. I'm so glad you like it, the next song I think you'll like is 'The Jeweller's Hands'. Its kinda like this song: mellow, and relaxed, but as it gets further into the song it kinda builds up. Really cool man.
I love Arctic Monkeys. I would love to hear more from them, but I am more incline to simply recommend solo listening for everyone. If I were to recommend music, I'd say all six albums - but my personal favs are B-sides to singles such as "Cigarette Smoker Fiona" and "Too Much To Ask" Cheers
IIRC Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age helped engineer/produce this record. I hear a lot of that stoner/psych influence in this song. ~-EDIT-~ just got to the part where you mentioned this :P Carry on!
Great review! Any chance of a review of 'Bandoliers' by Them Crooked Vultures? They are: Dave Grohl on drums, Josh HOmme on vocals and John Paul Jones (Led Zep) on bass. They're a good mix!
