Another brilliant video Harry, the old girl is a very special car and apart from the amazing journey and the expense to date for the standard of work Darren has done is incredible value in my opinion. We have a 93 year old Rolls Phantom 1 which has been in the family 58 years, longer than anyone else and bought for £190 when I was still at school. The amazing journeys and experiences that car has given us is what makes ownership so pleasurable !.
Haven't seen rust like that since I grew up in New York! Glad I live in sunny So Cal now, where cars never rust out. I can't believe Alfie did all that work in a week! He's really "cracking on", to use your charming vernacular jargon!
No better recommendation for a shop than to have Dave Starsky, the Scooby gang and Harry amongst their clients! I half expected to see KITT in there somewhere getting an upgrade 🙂
Great to see a different kind of restoration Harry. I think we can all relate to wanting to keep a beloved old car going without heaping the cash on a concourse restoration. Great stuff Harry!
She is a solid old lump isn't she. My parents had a 1967 ( TYK 22F ) silver Shadow, with apparently a rare metal sliding sunroof and air con, in the late 70's. as a family we went to Sweden and Denmark in it, and as a 15 year old I still remember stopping at what seemed every petrol station in the countries 😲
It was insane when you took that poor car to the arctic (something no one in their right mind would do without 4-wheel drive), but it was also fascinating. Then you jetted off to the desert with the Testa Rossa! What next? Taking the Range Rover into the Channel? I still tell everyone I know about the time you took the Lambo Urus onto your farm and did donuts by the sheep! Anyway, love watching these restorations (the Jag too)! You must truly loved these cars to put so much money and time into them. Great fun.
@@ToyKingWonder new cars after 3 years have an Mot. Cars 40 years and over are exempt from Mots though you can still take to an mot station for a check over.
@@ToyKingWonder Wouldn't want it any other way. Years back when I was self employed I did MoT preparation as a sideline business. Having seen the state of some cars that get sent in for an MoT, I can't imagine the chaos on the roads living somewhere where an annual inspection didn't happen. Fine if you are vigilant and conscientious but too many folk drive them until they stop working, be it engine, lights or brakes...
Harry, thank you for this new report. It is good to see that the Shadow recieves some attention. I wonder what will be done finally to prevent further corrosion (the same for the Jaguar and the Lancia). Best wishes Dirk
I really love the Shadow 1. I'm really glad to see one getting turned around to be a nice tidy, solid car instead of getting chopped up for bits. I'm especially glad for you that your investment in the repairs + purchase price will bring you out about even. Your adventures probably add to the value and you're keeping hold of it to enjoy it, so it will appreciate - And best bit is you don't care about any of that, you just want a nice car to use! Nicely done
Thanks. As you correctly say, end value is irreverent, it's all about keep it in good enough condition so we can continue to enjoy rocking around in the Arctic Rolls for many more years to come.
Iam from Oslo and been all the way up to Arctic circel witn my brothers 87mod marine blaue 911 some years ago not in the winter thank you!! love your videos no hipp hopp or some one who thinks to highly about..... you know.? you are making videos for the mature you tube.
Plastic wheel arch liners are a Godsend, especially if they fit and are fitted properly, helping to reduce road noise, stone chips, mud, salt, water and rust.
It's ironic when a man owns a garage full of schoolboy bedroom wall poster exotica and the most characterful car is a banger Rolls Royce. long may she remain.
You've created a RU-vid legend in the Arctic Rolls. Well done for preserving it for future generations (I'm sure you'll make a bit of money on it too,🤗
Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
I sold my 67 Shadow. Had it sitting in my garage for years. It needed everything fixed. It was shipped to Pakistan where it will undergo a complete frame off restoration. Apparently they love these old early series Rolls Royce's over there.
Another great video Harry. Can't wait to see the Jag, although, it is a shame you didn't go with my suggestion of candy apple red and chromies, but then again it is your car! Love your channel Downunder Lindsay
Everybody commenting of the non-sense of it all. Het, guys, this Rolls is Harry's, right ? It got him safe and sound (in uber comfort) north of the Artic circle, right !? It's worth saving it. Period. Respect to this good man, please !
I watched the original 'Arctic Rolls' trip videos, I've watched all the videos it's featured in since, however briefly, and the penny has only just dropped about the name!
you know honestly I'm no fan of rolls from this era given how bad the company treated people back then, but this one seems like its got a good vibe to it, and I'm glad to see it get fixed up
Harry, hope you will be bringing your Countach to the 50th Anniversary Countach Rally in Monterey! You have a lot of fans across the pond! I think it would make an outstanding episode for your channel.
@@harrysgarage Stand by for an official invite :). Mr. Metcalfe, you're right there with Jay Leno. Appreciate all your work and effort on the Harry's Garage channel.
It looks like your man welds with a hammer, but he works cheap. It's good to see fair honest work that a practical person might do to extend the life of a car that gets real world use. I'm a big advocate of repairing things rather than replacing them.
Another great video - but this looks to me like a "make do and mend" approach, unlike the work being done on your Jaguar XJC V12 which is in a different league !..
Will they use lead where RR did? Can’t wait to see. Either way I win. If they use lead, I get to watch a cool video. If they don’t, I get to feel better about my own “restoration” efforts. 😎
Harry, since this car is to be used all year round would you consider a under coating such as dinotol wax or similar? This should keep most of the water off and does eventually wear off so not permanent or a moisture trap?
Not much, just up to the nearest crease line. I had hoped to keep it to the bumper line but will explain more when I do the next video once it's in the paint-shop, which should be next week
Harry: I noticed a Triumph Stag in there...are you trying to get it to start, not overheat or not fall apart from rust and awful engineering? Darren: Yes.
