I've been fishing the Manistee for 21 years, now. Well down river from Tippy. Every year, we've gone up to Tippy to spectate. Have not seen any of the craziness that we all hear about...I guess it's a timing issue?!!! My 1st time fishing there was in June of 2021...caught a few little browns and bows...and a nice big steely(skamania). Fished it again, mid-run, last year...not a lot getting caught, for as crowded as it was. I was up there this past Friday. Amazingly, we found a gap between people, just below the coffer. The place was packed...fish and people. Everybody was very cool...and taking turns with casts and drifts...and waiting when fish were on. I might have made 20 cast...had at least 15 on, but only landed 3. All were foul hooked and the "fun" got old pretty quick. Snagging (accidentally) spawning zombies just isn't for me, I guess. Those fish are not biting...they're getting "flossed". Saw a few that would be alright for the smoker...all the ones I got, and the majority I saw caught were beyond that. Bleh! If ya walk along the bank...you could easily restock you hooks, weights, flies and beads...lots of crap all along...don't go bare-foot!!! I did get 1 nice "cromer" off the pier, back in mid-Sept...no joy in the river though.
Dang I always forget to use yer promo code. I ran a tiger stripe/orange body that just caught fish like mad! Northern, rock bass, SMB, LMB, and even a red horse sucker! Still gotta try em on salmon, steelhead, and lake run browns. That big heavy bead on the body really lets em fish deep in a way that Mepps, my old favorites, couldn’t do. Fantastic lure thanks for turning me onto them!
@natemorehouse1371 Awesome man! I hope you ordered the 5/16oz. they tend to spin a lot better. The 1/4oz. work in certain situations but I throw the 5/16 almost 100% of the time.
@@fishinwiththegriffins7304 I ordered three 5/16 and 2 1/4s. Single hooks. Also just watched one of your very first vids fishing in the harbor. It will be very similar to that, just in salt instead.
Seen ur car out at Holloway one day and seen the channel decided to shoot u a sub cool seeing a fellow Michigander out here doing his thing keep up the great content
At this time the fish have been in the river since end of july in 2023 i was catching them by the platform along the wall with flies and beads half to 5/8 ounce sinkers depending the rain fall and turbines.
Heading to tippy next week monday I also picked up some artic spinners to go with my arsenal I'm just curious are you running the single hook or the treble hook in this video? Watching your video Got me excited to hit the dam. New subscriber to your channel. Keep the videos coming my friend And i hope to see you out there
I'm going there next week during the week, I hope I have some good luck. I've never caught a fish that big before. Have you tried spoons here? I have some 3/4 ounce ones from my grandpa's tackle box that I've not had a use for in my neck of the woods, but I've heard they are good for steelhead/salmon.
Can you fish spinners for steelhead and salmon on a bass rod like that? All I have is an abu Garcia veritas 7’ and I’d like to know if it can handle em or not
@rogerjames2729 direct to the quick snap. I get some line twist but not bad. Every 5 casts I hold my rod up and let it unwind a little. I don't like using a leader. That's one extra weak point on your line.
@hunterbarber3606 Treble hook is 3/8 inch or less from point to shank. And single hook is 1/2 inch or less from point to shank. Thanks for subscribing, I appreciate it.
@Abraxastrust they stop eating but they don't stop biting! They bite out of aggression and they also bite eggs that aren't their own. The spinner makes them mad and you get what's called a reaction bite. They don't want to eat it they just want to kill it. Thanks for the question.
@davidnguyen1192 Thank you and no need to be sorry, I enjoy answering questions. I was using 12 lb. Big Game Mono. I recommend the 12 lb. or even bumping it up to the 15 lb.
@@fishinwiththegriffins7304 Thanks for your response, Just ordered a good size order of the spinners, although I couldn't use your code. I just was hoping you get recognition/pay for some of it. Thanks again.
@guybro7644 not sure if he has any shops near you that sell them. Closest place I can think of is Andy's Tackle Box in Brethren. You can also contact Arctic Spinners on Facebook for more info. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
@@fishinwiththegriffins7304 an answer is better than no answer! I stopped at new TCH gear in tc and interlochen and wrote it in the suggestion box, they said they would be getting some! I’ll check out Andys this weekend, thank you
I catch and release mostly unless silver. But i also think you can't keep a fish you didn't hook yourself. Just saying with the amount of tickets i have gotten the judge told me i should know all laws so be careful when you didn't actually hook fish you keep.
@scottrulka6587 I appreciate the concern. I don't think it's legal but my friend's Native American so in this situation, it doesn't matter, but I'd still like to know what the actual law is. I looked it up but couldn't find anything on it. Thanks for the comment Scott.
@bobowhite11 I hope so! That means people will be catching more fish!!!! Doug's a good dude, he deserves it! It's such a good spinner!!! Thanks for the comment 👍🏻 🎣
@MLY73 I have a farmer that trades me for venison. I just have to go get the deer processed myself. I'm not sure what he uses the Salmon for but I don't think it's for eating.
I eat them in late September have for years they taste fine in patties and if not having food and eating old fish is the difference between eating or not I’ll eat them every time
Not 1 fish reeled in was foul hooked man, but there may be people that try that with other lures or tactics. This however is not the case. This video shows how to get strikes.
Are you using the treble hook or single hook? On the website it only is letting me order the glow chartreuse one the other two options says page not available. Is the glow just as good or no?It seems the coupon code didn’t work either.
@johnvoelker8227 Yes the glow work great! He may be out of the other colors at the moment. Treble hook for Tippy.👍🏻 Sorry my code didn't work for you. If you send him an email or contact him on Facebook, I'm sure he'll make it right with the coupon.
@@fishinwiththegriffins7304 I am really not worried about the price as it stands. I ordered 5 spinners and ordered the garlic scale stuff too. You got a new sub here as well, I appreciate the timely response and your informative vids, keep em comin. 👍
