I think it's somewhat underappreciated outside Scandinavia that colder is actually better when it comes to grip on snow and ice. I think most brits would be amazed how much grip you can get on snow and ice at -10C and below with decent winter tyres. Since you are "Mispronounced Adventures" i won't try to correct your pronounciation of "Jokkmokk". 😁
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 4 месяца назад
I completely agree in a Nordic winter, I get far more grip because there conditions are a lot colder so generally dry snow, which find super grippy. UK winter on the other hand is quite humid and really only done to -5. It’s a horrible wet snow which is very Slippery and lots black ice

Example, being on this time video with the chains, temperature was around zero and a wet snow so horrible and slippy

Hi Alex, - Fiona and Matthias here again! I think we just missed you at Rovaniemi! We are parked tonight at Santa park, in our way south, and heading towards home! Thanks so much for all the videos, Your previous ones inspired us to walk to the Three Country Cairn at Kilpisjärvi, and once again to the remote Cairn at the Russian border! We followed in your footsteps, literally, by walking the 30km in to the FIN/NOR/RUS cairn, camping at the shelter, and walking out again the next day! And of course we had the very young, and pleasant border guards accompany us! It was an incredible experience and we wouldn’t have known about it only for you, and your video! Well done on that trek by the way, we are very experienced hikers/climbers and it still was murder! Such a long hike in and out, but worth every blister! Yes, the weather is just too warm, but that’s the way it goes. Next stop for us is Helsinki, so we won’t cross paths. But we will keep an eye on your videos, thanks so much for keeping us entertained on many’s a dark evening in the Transit van over last few weeks! YouTubing is a lot of hard work, and we appreciate all the effort you put into producing an episode. Go n-éirí an bothar leath! (Have a good journey!) Regards, Fióna and Matthias, from Sligo, Ireland.

That is absolutely wonderful to hear that you did the three country cairn trek! The border guards were definitely lovely when I met them. Glad they were pleasant for you as well. And I agree it was definitely a bit of a slog on the final 19km that’s for sure! Definitely a worthwhile adventure!

Hi Alex, we absolutely love your vlogs. We have watched your 2 visits to the Arctic, your van build series, and are currently enjoying your 3rd visit to the Arctic. They are all brilliant. We have recently bought a van and are adding bits and pieces to it. I understand you are an ambassador for Autoterm. We are thinking about fitting the autoterm heater. Cheeky question: Can you get us any discount or discount code for these heater kits. Thank you Alex xx

Variety is the spice of life, Alex. Contrary to the first comment, I don't think your commentary is ignorant. Shame. Anyway, this has been one of your best videos to date. Thanks, mate and hope the rest of the journey was just as fun. Keep safe at all times 👍👍
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 4 месяца назад
Variety definitely is. And thank you for your reference to the ignorant comment. “Ignorant” is always interesting word. Sometimes it’s used to insult, other times it’s used with no negative connotation attached and it really means a lack of knowledge, and learning about gaps in knowledge is useful. but with the weather and wind, is not something I consider myself having a lack of knowledge, given my professional background of taking people out into extreme environments and making risk assessments around it, I would be interested to learn where I had a lack of knowledge. if that was the case. Videos are always great at showing a one-sided or narrow view of events, particularly here. you’re only really seeing the visuals of the stormy conditions, not how it actually felt to drive or if it was safe or not, or my decision-making Glad you really enjoyed the video

Great content again. That market event looked very nice. I haven't been to Jokkmokk, but I've driven that E10 towards Kiruna and later to Norway, so I wasn't very far from that. Funny coincidence that I just learned several days ago that Jokkmokk comes from Saami language "johkkamohkke" which means river's curve. Makes sense.
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 4 месяца назад
I’ve taken the E10 to Kiruna then over to Norway, quite a few times now! I didn’t realise that was the origin of the name Jokkmokk, makes a lot of sense. most places Names are really like that, when I’m working in Scotland, most of our Gaelic place names on the maps are a literal translation of the local geography or feature.

For someone who has spent two winters in the north, you come across as somewhat ignorante on some things, like weather, wind and the likes. But at least you have stopped to fiddle with the damned camera while driving so points for that(for the most part)
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 4 месяца назад
What particulars do I come across ignorant as in regards to weather and wind? the weather is the later part of the video was still very drive able as long as you drive to the conditions at hand. so you see many other road users , just going a lot slower and larger gaps been vehicles. If the wind was going to be an issue moving the van around and not making it safe to drive then I wouldn’t be.

@@MispronouncedAdventures You take no notice of the winter conditions on the backroads you drive, while not seeing your speed, witch could seem faster than in life. And seem suprised that you slide into the ditch for one. As someone who drives a snowplow in the northern parts of Norway, I get a uneasy feeling watching it. And time and time again when you park, it would seem to me at least. And this is not meant in a spitefull tone, that you take litle regards for things like snowdrift, storms and the likes. But you have progressed so not too bad. I suppose its just me becoming nervous on your behalf, seen enough of winter tourists stranded on some less than good back roads over the years. stay safe my man, particulary now as your partner is with you
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 4 месяца назад
@@Corsair721 interesting you would bring up speed as I often drive below the limit as I’m a large van, and am frequently overtaken ( or pull in and let people past ). But almost all driving shots are filmed in the super wide lens so that down makes things looks at lot faster. As for parking, I specifically look at what the weather is forecast to be and would determined where I park. Im not going to go somewhere remote if it forecast snow and wind I don’t want to get snowed into. But I would say of sleeping in car parks in the Nordics for the last 3 winters, I find Norway, Sweden and Finland to be quite different in what would be plowed and what wont , and what wouldn’t when I’m searching out somewhere to
