their best album and my fave by far. they push the limits to produce the most bizarre and over the top melodies and vocals. masterpiece 10/10

I bought this when it first came out. I listened to it 3-4 times that day on headphones. It expanded my metal tastes that day !!

The main composer of the band back then was the keyboards player: Steinar " Sverd " Johnsen and the drummer was Hellhammer.

Cool, someone who listens to Arcturus. You don't see many of those. This album was one of my favorite albums when it came out. Good that you found out that Garm was singing. I am one of those fans who would have pointed my finger on you :D. So you like Mr Bungle too? I gotta check out more of your stuff.

Everything on this album will grow on you once you give it a few more listens, even the "bad" drum production that seems isolated from the rest of the sounds. Also there seemed to be 5-6 second skips at certain parts of some songs. That was weird.

You really bash the production but you don't realise that the reason it hurts your ears is that you are listening it in low quality from RU-vid with (I guess) high volume. Not a very smart move. Get the CD, vinyl or buy hq digital files. The album sounds super. BTW where did you read the producers comments? I'd love to read them, too! :)

Oh yeah, and when you buy the album, maks sure you look at the album art and study the lyrics. Then you will understand why the album is like it is and sounds like it sounds. Nice idea to describe the album more like a collage than a painting but I'd say it's more like short story or a movie. In an experimental fashion of course. I've been listening to the album since 2005 and I still have not deciphered all the lyrical content and keep on hearing new details in the music. Like another comment said, this album is a grower.

Børge Finstad: "Well. I mixed this on a SSL 4000G mixer. I got most of it.. The Lexicon 480L, PCM70, AMS RMX16 and all the cool stuff. The big problem was the recording. Drums sounded really bad. Back in 96, we dont have drum replacement. I dont know where the the drums was recorded, bud it makes me bad even today! The guitars was recorded in a apartment in Oslo.. Sounds like You hear it now... I think it was a Triaxis. Poor miked, but i make it play.. Strings, flute etc was recorded in a good studio. About 24 track slave tape. Sounds good!, Yes??!! It was the Norwegian Broadcasting Orcestra. During the mix-setup, I hated the vocal sound and production. So, during the mix, We recorded Chris vocal once again. We used the Sony C800G thru the Neve 1073 pre. Same with Simens vocal. Simen track the vocal in the control room. He do just one take! So after all, after 20 years, I hate the drum sound, guitars should sound bigger and we got a Steinway Grand in the studio.. whats the reason to not use it!!??"

Yo man, I never realized how much you enjoy the avante-garde genre until I saw you're other stuff. Check out "Cleric - Regressions". They're a little intense tbh but it would be sick if I could hear your thoughts on this.

Hey man, I finally checked out Cleric - Regressions. It sounded good, but I usually like to hear the weirdness and chaos reined in a little bit more haha. Definitely a strange and heavy album. To me it sounded like they were just experimenting without trying to write memorable songs per se. I respect it, but it's not something I'll probably return to. I do appreciate you recommending it to me. If you have any more suggestions, don't hesitate and feel free to shoot those over my way. I'm always open to listening to new stuff. Thanks, man!

Word I don't blame ya. I definitely took a lot of breaks trying to listen to the entire album. It's a lot to take in to be honest. If you'd like some more reined in avant-garde stuff I'd recommend checking out the song "Pan.Thy.Monium - The Battle Of Geeheeb". Thanks for giving Cleric a shot btw!
