Use XIAO esp32 board , it will fit behind the screen. Instead of RTC wifi NTP can be used to get accuracy.

ok , what if at night you want to have your room completely dark (screen off). but if you move your hand closer to the device (antenna) it is switched on (shows time) and turns off after 5 seconds.

I use DS3231 with arduino pro mini with 128x64 ssd1306 but a little smaller display than yours, plus i add 2 button for setting the clock and set 2 alarm. Because the alarm is save into ds3231 memory, i can use low power library tu make the display to always in power down mode and only turn up 15 seconds when i press the button then back to sleep.

@@marios_ideas ds3231 has its own eeprom memory onboard (alarm1 / alarm2). But the limit is only can save 2 alarms at a time.
