I'd like to share my progress on Arduino based Telescope control system (GoTo). I'd like to use this opportunity to also thank all guys from forum.starrydre... for the support they demonstrated and for helping me with precious advises during the development. Special thanks also to the guys who during the observations shared their knowledge and experience.
I'm also building a website with instructions, bill of materials and code download: rduinoscope.co.nf/
/ rduinoscope
Facts about the system:
- Arduino DUE with TFT Touch Screen (240 x 400 px);
- RTC DS3231;
- GPS uBlox Neo 6M;
- PS2 joystick;
- Temperature & Humidity sensor DHT22;
- Bluetooth module HC-05;
- Stepper motor drivers DRV8825.
Functionality:
- Complete DB with Messier Objects and NGCs;
- Calculates location and control the telescope according the hemisphere;
- Calculates the LST and HA of an object and points the telescope in that direction;
- Sidereal tracking;
- Log observational information like: Location, Observed objects, environment parameters, duration of observation and etc;
- BlueTooth connection and control;
- Multi speed manual control with Joystick;
- Day/Night mode of operation;
- ... and many other small geeks which I consider useful :)

Building a Smart Phone Camera for a telescope. This idea is basically very easy. I just don't have the tools to built it. The idea is take to the camera lens, software and hardware from a LG7 Thin Q Smartphone and turn it into a telescope eyepiece. The camera lens, hardware and software are already built into the LG7 ThinQ so all that would need to be done is too replicate the software and hardware used to operate the camera mounted in a standard Plossl 25mm housing and amateur astronomers would be able to connect the camera to the telescope and take images with it the same they would if they used a smart phone adapter too connect the phone to the telescope. New types of filters and lens could be developed to screw onto the bottom of the eyepiece as well. Why this type of camera would be great for amateur astronomers is because the camera would see what exactly is being viewed through a standard eyepiece instead of losing images due to low light issues. A camera like this would be perfect for small focal length telescope users who aren't able to get quality images of the night sky as well as being perfect for those who don't want to spend a lot of money on the more expensive cameras designed for larger aperture telescopes. This camera design could be used with any telescope that has an eyepiece.

I am confused. It appears that it would be a very useful project for me, as my two hobbies are astrophotography and arduino. The displays on the screen and your comments above are all in English, which would tend to indicate that you have a grasp of English. Yet the description is all in your language, with no subtitles ( which could easily be translated into English by Google). i would be very keen to copy your ideas if I could understand it.

Wow.... Im just doing a complete restore on my 8" F/7 Cave and Astrolla GEM, Im very temped to add this to the GEM as full GOTO capability would be awesome!!! This is unreal! I just dont understand how the system knows where the OTA is pointing without encoders....
@dessislavgouzgounov7586
@dessislavgouzgounov7586 6 лет назад
doug teichroeb thank you! :) For more information you can browse the project website and the facebook support group as there are some explanations. In short however... this is an open loop ontroll. The system builds a mathematical model of the sky and with the alignment procedures, one aligns mathematical to real sky. It also assumesthat the mechanical movemet is correct e.g. motors does not pass a step due to load. It works very well

@@dessislavgouzgounov7586 Thank you for your response. I decided to purchase the turn key controller that you sell on your website. Very excited for it to arrive. I am planning on installing this on my Dobsonian mounted reflector (which I know this controller is not intended for.) But you did mention on your website that code could be added to make it work for this type of mount. I know I will have plenty of work to do on my end but could you please give me just a basic direction on how to go about this? where to start? Thank you SO much for building this and making them so we purchase these!

Will this 1: 4 reduction work out in my EQ5 mount? thank you
@dessislavgouzgounov7586
@dessislavgouzgounov7586 7 лет назад
It will work, but it is you who have to decide about the ratio. Higher ratio like 1:3, 1:4 will slow the slewTo speed, but lower ratio like 1:1 might not be enough and you face chunky movement when tracking. Basically download the XLS file from the website (rduinoscope.byethost24.com/downloads.php) and play around to identify the best setup for your month. As a rule of thumb, considering EQ5 have 144 tooth gear you should be fine with 1:3 and 1:4 ratio of the belt.

Hello Dessislav, i have just finished to mount the controller, i need to test on the sky! I have seen on github that there is a alpha 9 version; what is the difference with the 8 version? And again, thanks a lot for sharing this impressive work!! With best regards Pierre
@dessislavgouzgounov7586
@dessislavgouzgounov7586 7 лет назад
Hello Pierre,Great progress :) The difference is in small fixes that I made on the way... don't really remember them as I didn't keep a proper versioning control. I'm using v.9 on my setup.I'd love to see photos of your setup :) You can upload to Facebook page as there are many who are now building the rDUINOScope. Please also note that this is still Alpha! .... there will be more table version soon if I find the time to put it together - changes in the code structure and Alignment.

I'm using 1:4 reduction and NEMA 17 steppers with 44 Ncm, but you can use any stepper capable or moving your mount below 1.6A per coil (DRV8825 can only handle up to 2A, thus the restriction)

Get to the Facebook Page first facebook.com/groups/150875201997704/ . You can find there a lot of people building the rDUINOSCope right now. Additionally there you will find that due to the high traffic the original website exceeded it's quota and thus a mirror site was created.

It took me almost a year to get to the final list of components, so I bought mine from DX.com and some I had lying around in my shack. However, a few guys are now (Dec. 2016) building the rDUINOScope and they claim the components can be found on Aliexpress - especially the TFT Screen. I hope this helps!
