In this video we learn how to use this 8x8 RGB LED matrix. This matrix is using the WS2812 driver and it is great, because each LED is individually addressable. Only one microcontroller pin is required to control all the LEDs, and you get 24 bit color for each LED.

I see here that we are always speaking about linear connection of the LEDs, what if we try to make a wall - i.e. making the linear modules (say you have 16 linear LEDs) standing 4 on every row? How this could be programmed in Arduino?

I have an idea to use one of those RGB 8x8 matrix displays to build an electronic version of Reversi game. I would love to find a bigger in size "ready to use" matrix display, but the biggest I have found was a 60mm x 60mm one...

Hi :-) Many compliments for your lessons :-) about these 8x8 matrix, I'd like to use them to build a four digits scoreboard for volleyball. I think I need 2 matrix for each digit and I want to drive all with an arduino sketch (basically are two up/down counters with four buttons). Do you think is it possible? Can you help me? The link you provided for the 8x8 matrix is for a single-color (red) matrix, not the one in the video. Do you have a link to the same RGB LED matrix that you used? (I did find one that's similar on banggood, but it's not the same and doesn't have the pins on the bottom like yours does)

Hey nice! those look bigger than I thought. I think a cool project idea would be make a nice little audio frequency spectrum analyzer like if you have 8 frequencies you can just use one matrix, or if you have 16 frequencies you can use 2 matrixes tied together. Just an idea! :-)

These RGB matrix panels now much cheaper. You can even buy a 16x16 matrix for less than the cost of the 8x8 matrix shown at the start of this video. They are also available with a flexible (and lighter) PCB as well as the conventional rigid board.

Hello, Thank you for all your tutorials, they are very clear and useful. I have a problem with the same matrix (Bought from Banggood). When I compile, and upload the "Noise Example" I have the next Message ( # pragma message "FastLED version 3.001.008" ), and the matrix doesn't do any thing. I'm usin Arduino Uno clone (from RobotDyn) and it works fine. Ramzi

it is using a WS2812 driver NOT a WS8212 driver in the LED. Nice that you have the manuskript in the destribtion. Good video :-)

you must first download arduino IDE and install it on your computer after you must download the CH34O driver so that the usb port of your computer can communicate with the arduino Then you upload the downloaded code to the arduino board and it will then work GOOD LUCK

+Parker John Without a common ground you can pick up electrical noise (from WiFi, cellphones, unshielded electronics, power transformers,...) which can cause strange problems. Trying to find the source of those problems is a lot of work and usually requires more experience, in-depth knowledge, and test equipment than a novice will have access to. Therefore it's a good way to teach best practices to novices in these tutorials.
