If the car is in its original condition, like with the original engine seals and gaskets, its going to leak oil and have problems. But new, except for the crossfire V8 early on, they were no more or no less reliable than any American car for their time. Your mechanic is wrong on parts and repair. If he can't find parts for the most produced engine of all time in the country that made them, and he doesn't know how to work on a car they made millions of, then you need a new mechanic. So far every part i need is usually available in store at every Orileys and Autozone. And they're cheap. About as cheap as they get. In fact, a rebuild on a sbc is probably the cheapest rebuild ever.

@@ryanwilliams3369 I've heard many complain that their cars over heat or go past the half way mark in traffic with the clutch fan. Maybe its just hotter climates

If its carb, then it will not be reliable unless you know how to tune it and keep it going. If its the H.O, thats better. Nothing inherently unreliable about that year z28 unless its an automatic

@@bigspeaker781 minus the optispark which is known to give you problems if it gets wet, much more reliable. in stock form. Stick shifts even more so.
