First off, I believe that it's important to acknowledge that BTS is the sole reason why Kpop even became this globally popular. So with Kpop bands being able to promote themselves in the West very easily means that BTS are in fact HELPING these boybands become successful, bc now they have a bigger spotlight to do so. They have the tools now. The difference is that BTS were rejected and mistreated by the kpop industry because unlike the idols in the Big 3, BTS were extremely poor, their run down company almost went bankrupt and had no influence. So BTS decided to use their own means of communication with fans and has been making self made music and content predebut. BTS also had to work 10 times harder than their more privileged peers, and face backlash from so many different angles at such young ages. I believe they were able to reach more global attention this way without even intending to, because they never intended to blow up in the US. It's also important to note that BTS have been in the game for 10 years, these 4th gen kpop bands can't expect to reach the same success in 2 weeks, that's just not how it works. I also blame the labels who started this "next bts' agenda because none of them have walked in BTS's shoes. It's not fair to blame BTS for others not being as successful. BTS solidified a legacy, Seo Taji waited 25 years to pass the torch to the next group who would make Korea proud, and he passed it to BTS.

Very well said! My thoughts exactly. The fans of Some bands are also trying to show “hardships” of their fave groups . But Most of the time it’s just “hardships” during trainee days which is very common in Kpop. Not saying that it’s good, but it’s nowhere close to the hardships that BTS went thru. It’s just them against the whole Industry! That’s why I get so annoyed with people who thinks that just because their faves are now getting nominated in US awards, has sold more of their latest albums , gets to perform in Western stages that they already think their faves are now on the same level as BTS. Also downplaying BTS achievements or even giving their faves credit or titles that belongs to BTS. If Army’s correct them then automatically Army’s are called “toxic” or Army’s feels “threatened “ that their faves will dethrone BTS. For me, all Kpop groups are very similar to each other . The same recycled sound. Fancy videos, catchy sounds and hooks but songs most of the time are shallow or have no substance. Sometimes there are some Kpop songs that gets my attention but not enough for me to delve more into the group like what happened with BTS. They Really are a once in a lifetime group. Wether antis accept it or not. Just like how the Beatles spearheaded the British Invasion, BTS led the Kpop wave and maybe domination? No one right now can even he considered a close second to BTS . It’s just facts!

In my opinion... BTS is on a different level on their own. Other groups are also good but human nature would tell us that if there is a standard of KPop it is BTS. WHY? BTS is a total package. Talent, songs, personality, humility, sincerity, uniqueness and most of all real love and appreciation of ARMY. We are their priority even on special occasion instead of partying with celebreties. Other groups followed the way BTS connects with fans because other groups realized it works. Just like if there was Beatles during our parents time we have BTS now and that's the standard. Thank you for this episode. its BTS now.

You can't compare talent. If you're talented, then you will be recognized one day. You can't expect fame and success to come right away. It took BTS 10 years, not to mention it's easier now for Asian artists to drop music in the West. BTS understands that this is not forever so they focus on longevity, substance, and authenticity. Only time will tell whether these young and new groups can last as long and make quality music like BTS.

Quality music! That’s the key. Music that you can relate to easily. BTS discography is a goldmine for those. Not just songs that you can dance to or get pumped with but that’s it. Those songs don’t usually last. It will just always be a passing fancy or a “trend”. We all know that those don’t really have longevity like the Classics!

The bottom line is they are REAL people, true to themselves, and shared everything with us ❤😂😢😅🎉😮😊 They are BEAUTIFUL young men who let us travel their life paths with them and continue to share with us!!!❤❤❤

I'm a senior army and discovered BTS in 2020 through Dynamite. I was aware that there's something like k-pop and I just thought it's colorful genereric bubblegum pop for kids. As a GenX Rock and Metal fan I didn't even heard it on the radio. No, I was watching a youtube video of a dance crew who covered it. And the song had that familiar 70s feeling to it. I loved it and looked it up. BTS...aha...oh...a Korean boyband. Nahh, not my cup of tea. But I couldn't get the song out of my head and so I said to myself. "Oh look, there's a video by them called On. Let's watch it" and from that moment on I was hooked. And three weeks later I had the backcatalog of the 5 main albums. Through BTS I got in touch with k-pop. As I'm mainly interested in the music and not the whole package (visuals, merch ets. pp), there are rarely groups that stick out. Stray Kids is one of them. Shinee, a 2. Gen group, is another. And man, I discovered Seo Taiji !! :) I'm still not that much into k-pop in general. I think what got me into BTS is not only the variety of songs. There's a whole video about why so many rock and metal fans are attracted to BTS. :) That they were an underdog was one of the reasons. Every rock and metal fan can relate to that. What I wanna say is. It's really not fair to compare any group to BTS. It's obvious that they've found a way to attract different kinds of people, different ages, different beliefs, different backgrounds, different muscial tastes. It's really hard to live up to that.
@proyectobcr2982
@proyectobcr2982 9 месяцев назад
It is naive to make comparisons. For this reason, since BTS did not break the mold but rather created and continues to create new ones, comparisons must be avoided and as the video that summons us says, separate BTS from the rest and listen to them without making comparisons because many groups are really good and deserve to be heard and recognized without comparing themselves with others or in any case, not comparing them with a group that exceeds all comparison. BTS, with their lives and RUN BTS shows helped me find many very good Korean musicians and bands.

the problem i think is that management companies of the newer kpop groups are stuck trying to come up with "the next BTS." as a result, they tend to copy everything that BTS has done, down to marketing strategies. they forget to have their new boy bands to develop their own way and at their own pace. they're looking at everything short-term, and not long-term. while BTS grew organically, the newer boy bands seem manufactured according to targeted demographics. and therefore lack the authenticity that BTS has in their music. it may be unfair, but many critics have pointed out that BTS is made up of seven "beyonces" or seven "michaels" -- and indeed, this view is being validated as each individual BTS member is selling their solo albums in the millions worldwide, outperforming supposedly "big" kpop acts. the BTS formula simply can't be replicated; management companies should learn to let their artists be their own selves. that way, fans and consumers can discover unique talents, not just be offered copycat acts.

Honestly speaking: even if new listeners (fans) want to objectively judge/see the success of 4th gen boy groups they cannot do that because the already existing fans of those groups, managments/labels of those groups and even those groups themself constantly comparing their achievments to BTS's achievments or try to "beat" BTS. That is so damaging to those groups cause BTS are on another level. BTS worked hard for over 10 years now, they started gaing global succes about 4 years after debut, they changed how world look at kpop and opened a lot of doors for the new groups. That big success what BTS achieved doesn't come in a minute. Because BTS set many records and win great prizes the other kpop labels think that their groups can do the same cause BTS is kpop so people have to love all kpop groups. They forget that BTS grew up that big fandom and became recognizable because of their hard work, artistry, progress in music and variety in music styles. You can't be original and stand out if you do the same what others before you. And you need to care about your fans much more than about money and fame. Without big and loyal fandom you won't be succesfull, famous and profiting from your work. Copying BTS won't let you be more popular than BTS. Also the amount of new groups that pop up every month, year make it more difficult to achieve longevity and success. Many times those new groups follow trends and their music isn't any difference that other groups. People become bored very fast. Groups and labes should focus on their own work. They can put BTS as example what they would want to achieve but they need to work their ass off. Comparing yourself to BTS all the time when you don't do even 30% what BTS did to get what they are now is useless

@NewBabyBunnyJeans first you need to realize NJ record label wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for BTS. That's the issue of fans of these 4th Gen groups none of them realize who opened the door for them. Hybe is the house that Bangtan Sonyeondan built and made it easier for all those who came after them to have success. Big Hit Entertainment before they even changed their name to Hybe made sure the group's that came after BTS were different and didn't follow the same mode as BTS. TXT is nothing like their big brothers nor is Enhypen like BTS. New Jean's just followed that flow of being different. Seventeen you can't count because they aren't 4th Gen, they're 3rd Gen and were already an established group before Pledis became a part of Big Hit Ent (now Hybe). So yes New Jean's is doing their thing but they still got privileges from being a Hybe group.

I started listening to kpop during 2nd gen when my cousin who is two decades younger introduced me to Super Junior. I just listened to random songs that I liked from different groups. I wasn't interested in the groups at all, but I stopped listening after a couple years. As I got much older, I started to care about lyrics, but there was no artist who can touch my heart including American artists. I got bored with musics so I didn't listen to music that much. BTS brought me back because they care about the lyrics, and they talk about everything not just love or breakup. I tried listening to the 4th gen you mentioned, but their musics are noisy to me. I also can't relate to their lyrics. When I was younger I didn't care about the lyrics as much, but now lyrics are important to me. Also, BTS always try different genres and I love varieties. I am exactly the same way. I tried to watch NCT, straykids , Ateez etc. Nothing! They just all sound the same to me. They might have some fun and catchy sound but that’s basically it nothing special really. They all have the same vibe . The “I’m so tough and cool vibe” that sometimes it gets too over the top and cringey for me. I also noticed that the fandoms is these groups are doing the same exact things that Army’s did BTS maybe to make their fandom more “family like”? I’ve never heard of fans giving each other gifts or giving stuff to people on concerts. Only in BTS CONCERTS! even when so watched the BTS concert in theaters , army’s are in the door handing gifts to people . now i noticed fans of other Kpop group are doing the same thing! Nice I guess but for some reason I find it cringey. I don’t know. If you’ve been to a BTS Concert you’ll feel the oneness in the crowd. The positive energy is just so strong. It feels like you all know each other . It’s so amazing! Everyone was so helpful, polite and generous to each other. When I went to watch other Kpop concerts, my friend likes this one group so I went with her (I watched 2 this year so far ), and it just didn’t feel the same way. Yes, it was loud , fun , the usual typical concert feel, but the people ? It’s just a crowd! That’s it! BTS is the first and only group that I’ve ever seen that whenever they receive an award or anything , the first thing out of their mouths is “AMI”. Always fill of gratitude to their fans. I see a lot of Kpop groups are doing that now. BTS are also knows to do vlives after their shows or awards show to thanks their fans - they don’t even attend after parties even if they were invited because they would rather spend it with their fans. Their sincerity i think is what makes people gravitate towards them. You can feel their honesty . Not saying that other groups are not sincere or don’t appreciate their fans . I’m sure they do. However , it seems like there is still something missing. I don’t know. For 4th gen. Groups. I think TXT’s music is the one I prefer more. Not the ear noise music the other bands have. Listening to those groups gives me a headache after a while. Too much sensory overload .

BTS is on another level - NOBODY should ever blame them if other boy groups' success is "delayed". If there is great talent, it will come out. If it has not come out maybe not yet their time. NOBODY better blame a group who just happens to be brilliant and put in an extremely high level of hard work and depth of talent and skill in songwriting, conceptualization and performance. BTS is also backed by a committed and forward thinking production crew and a management team that kept their promise to the 7 men to provide them all resources to produce the best high class/high level performance productions and MVs. BTS is also deeply committed to creating content and sustaining that content satisfaction among fans and even potential fans. Hi. I became a fan of BTS just before Covid and immediately was drawn to them not knowing anything about them and what drew me was their sound their style I fell in love at first note. They had what I had been looking for in music. It was after I heard them the first time I decided to look into other artist and found that their overall sound just did not appeal to me at all. So my thought is if other groups would like to make it they have to create something that appeals to the masses of people not just a certain segment. The loud bombastic senseless sounds just don’t do it for me. BTS’s overall mood is so acceptable and warm and this is something I personally don’t think for me other groups have to me, I don’t know about other people just me before anyone take offense at what I am saying. BTS lacks the trying to force you to like me attitude. What they have is intrinsic to them and cannot be duplicated. So for me to sum up my opinion is 4th gen boy bands needs to find what appeals to the listening ear and so far to me it hasn’t happened. TXT might be on the right path but to be honest the only music I proudly play loud is BTS because doesn’t have that manufactured cookie cutter KPOP style. For me they are mainstream.

The BTS comparisons run deep in the music industry. It's not just the groups themselves, but their fans, the media, the agencies and the international press. A group that continues improving their performance is successful. But that does not seem enough for a segment of the Kpop fandom intent on one-up-man-ship. Everybody wants a shortcut to fame and fortune but the reality is that achieving what BTS did takes time, much effort and perseverance. A Tiktok hit or a viral song are not going to build a long-term career all on their own.

For me, music and dance have always held court in my life. Was never really into K-pop. Still not really. Just love BTS. Beyond their gifts in music and dance, the chemistry between the seven is unique, rare, not replicable. Nothing else tugs me. And individually, nothing/no one compares. I liked Prince and Michael Jackson, but I never knew their birthdays nor did I ever care to know. This is an odd phenom for me. I’m a GenX’er. I’ve never fanned before.

I resisted BTS 4 many months because I felt I only needed 1 K-pop group ,SF9. I'd only discovered SF9 a few months b4, not being a K-pop fan at all. While I still like them BTS has kinda overtaken my music life.No1 has had me so captivated since PRINCE!! I have been a follower of Prince 45 of my 52 years.Nobody ever came close 2 him 4 me ,even though I really liked Michael in my younger years . BTS has something that is hard 2 find or just non-existent in other groups or even individuals. The fact that their color is purple same as Prince's means something 2 me .🙃Like Prince always said ,there is no such thing as coincidences.

I discovered K-Pop because of BTS, their songs have meanings, have purposes and are impactful. There's a genre for everyone and thry are in a league of their own. I tried to listen to other k-pop acts, but it just doesn't do it for me. The love between Armys and BTS can never be replicated because it is real, true and sincere. Love them or hate them, accept it or not, admit it or not, BTS opened the global floodgates for k-pop, they paved the way for other groups and the future generations (i am not disrespecting the older generations). Every success, achievement is deserved.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” as is said for art and the same applies with musical interests. I could say exactly the same for another group that got me into K-pop. We all have different journeys and this takes nothing away from the amazing success and influence of BTS and their solo works.

These kpop groups are doing well on their own but the comparison with BTS is foolish....this band is literally a once in a lifetime type of an act, their numbers are just unbeatable at this point...they are on hiatus and yet their older songs gain more streams than the newest releases of the newer groups....lets not even get to the solo releases of the BTS members, they are outperforming major western acts...kpop acts are not even close. My point is please let these newer artists grow organically and let them feel accomplished with their milestones, these constant comparisons with an INDUSTRY GIANT will only make them feel as if they haven't achieved anything at all. A lot of the blame actually goes to the companies that are only looking to make money and pitch their groups as the "next bts" while being inconsiderate about their artists actual musical growth...also, ARMYS hate it when people do the "next bts" bullshit ,we immediately turn our backs and there itself they are losing a huge audience. Not to mention the kpop fans that are at constant denial of how BIG BTS truly is and set their fav groups up for failure just for some stupid twitter banter.

Interesting, couldn't it also be that international fans like myself are only interested in BTS and not in other groups? It is not Kpop, even Pop, we want to listen to/hear about, just BTS and their music/lyrics/their message. I find this sentiment with my other BTS friends too. And girl groups? What I have seen so far goes against all my gender sensitivities. So, no, thank you. Maybe I should add I find it important to know about BTS's musical influences, be it Eminem, Big Bang or Epic High etc., but this doesn't apply to groups following them.

Completely agree that the achievements of other bands cannot be compared to BTS. There are very good groups in male k-pop, I think something that blurs the achievements a bit is the number of existing groups where attention is pollinated and the time people have to appreciate them. I feel like BTS's main play will be when they start (if they do) to sing in Spanish. I must be honest that until now only BTS has enchanted me in all their content. There are many songs from other male k-pop bands that fascinated me with their dancing, singing and lyrics, but not all the material from each group, as has happened to me with BTS, not for that reason belittling the other bands that are very talented. Maybe there is also a problem in that there are small cores of fans of each group that are very hostile towards the fans of other bands and that causes (unfairly) people to reject the bands of the hostile fans because they feel that they speak on their behalf. (I hope the message is understood since I am using a translator). Greetings from Argentina.

In my opinion, it's impossible to not compare all other K-pop bands (both genders) with BTS and I can't seem to get interested because, frankly, all other bands in the world that I have seen or heard about are not at BTS level. A few of many reasons is that I have difficulty figuring out who's singing because they mostly sound the same, they look too similar to each other and they keep changing their hair colors so I just can't keep up. I even tried out Black Pink (because their voices were unique like BTS), but I can't get behind their music which I find insulting to women in general. If I have to choose a girl group, it would be New Jeans.

yes that´s true about the vocals sound the same and no one is allowed to stand out on their own like BTS and create their own image. like jimin did with his dance and j-hope did with his music and performance. and also RM and Suga who has very diffrent writing styles and music styles. they have been making a name for themself within BTS and not the rest is following. Jk´s voice that can sing every style of music and V´s Unique jazz style that i have never heard in kpop before. they are breaking every stereotypes. and make everything possible. for BTS everything is possible. other groups like BP have max 2 solo songs each and i dont think any of them will be able to have enough songs to start a solo career on their own and not touring alone. they can´t even keep the fans entertained as it is. i have seen all the negative press on their concerts. but fans dont care dont only want to look at them. all members of BTS has more solo songs than all of them combined.

It is hard to look past BTS, but they've set the bar very high. I do watch/listen to other K Pop groups/artists, they are good, don't deny that. My all time favorite is BTS though, love their OVERALL performances; choreography, singing and personalities they bring to the stage. BTS can't stop being BTS just to appease to the K Pop industry, K Pop fans that want more recognition for their group. It is sometimes frustrating I know, I've liked plenty of western groups that were good, but did not rise to the top, rather stayed in the middle with a lot of other groups. I think in my opinion, BTS has been harshly criticized in past, not given the same opportunities that the new generations have now due to BTS, but now BTS is being criticized or at least talked about in terms of casting too big of a shadow. I think K Pop will always be known for having "BTS", they just need to keep on doing what they are doing, fans will appreciate them. It's human nature to compare, no matter what it is, no matter the circumstances, it's human nature. I've never seen so much complaining or not sure what to call it (don't mean to offend anyone), about the K Pop industry, their artists, too much, too little....too, too, too. I've also never experienced fandoms either until getting to know BTS. I'm new to K Pop. I actually was introduced to K Pop by listening to a different group, I thought they're good, listened to another group and thought...hmmm sounds kind of the same but still good. I was later introduced to BTS and was completely blown away, wanted to know what they were saying in the songs, wanted to watch their videos. I could not tell at all who was the "weak" dancer, who had to learn how to sing, all I saw was their incredible in sync choreography, heard their vocals. Once I actually started watching K Pop MV's, I didn't really go back to the group I started out listening to for reasons I won't say. I have however, been watching other groups, not all of them are "good", but again, I'm looking. People will gravitate to what appeals to them the most and BTS on MANY levels appeal to many people. It's probably not a satisfying answer, but again, just because we don't see results our way, doesn't mean they're not good or valid results. I love watching your videos BTW, very informative and open minded.

For example Bite Me by Enphyen is soo good until, personally, the chanting, then it deterred me away from the song. I agree that you cannot compare 4th Gen groups with BTS (tho I thought Seventeen was considered 3rd Gen - they debuted in 2015). BTS’ circumstances were very different from boy groups now. The thing is 4th Gen boy groups CAN have the success (or close to) that BTS has, but it takes time. Some are good enough to be marketable to a wider audience, but BTS fandom grew to what it is now in a span of 10 years and it continues to grow. Stay, Carats, engenes, moas, Atiny and others will continue to grow but they are growing while ARMY is still growing. They just need to stick to it. Their companies need to keep investing and marketing them for a long time. I think some companies and groups end up quitting prematurely.

I am a 54 yo woman. I have listened to other K-pop groups, and I liked a few from boy groups, girl groups irritate me for some reason. The fact that I love BTS still astounds me sometimes, because a year ago I wasn’t even remotely interested. I do believe that I might have heard a few of their songs before I found them on my radar, but I really didn’t think much about it. Like so many have said before- you discover BTS when you need them the most. The fact that they have dug so deep into their souls, and those experiences gave breath to their music is what sets them apart from other groups. It also seems that other groups are trying to manufacture another BTS ( with their own spin of course) instead of trying to think of different solutions outside the box. The K-pop industry generally is one to follow a certain set of guidelines, and BTS had to approach everything differently because they were not allowed to follow those guidelines.😢. Not really sure what would be a solution for K-pop boy groups, but I do feel for them. Fact is that I really am not interested in K-pop in general, I am not really interested in most current music really. Just like I am not really an acapella lover, but I love the group Home Free while I can’t stand Pentatonix. So, I equate liking a certain group over another as a personal preference.

Honestly, I've loved Suchwita because it turned me onto other amazing groups that do differ artistically from BTS, e.g. Seventeen's focus is more mood music, which isn't an itch BTS scratches for me. But it took Suga to make kpop in general more digestible for me. Esp. because Hybe's the only label who consistently adds Eng subtitles to new MVs. I've put off really diving into Stray Kids because their Eng. translations aren't as systematically and straightforwardly bingeable that I've found. But it is interesting that girl groups get more unique streams but fewer replays. I find boy group material more replayable so far, though I've started trying out more girl groups.

It's not how this works. BTS is not blocking anyone, they are having their career. Would you say to Taylor Swift or Harry Styles they should step aside to let someone else through? Of course not. They are having their reign. It's all cyclical. This will all happen in time naturally. Someone will come along and be the biggest of that year. It may not be a Korean group, even though Korean Groups have flooded the market. It may be Filipino or Japanese Group and most likely it will be a multi racial or white group, from the UK or the States

I think the principle of this topic are completely wrong. We talk about "next BTS" when the BTS are still on the market making great results even individually and breaking more and more records. Agencies are spending more time looking for the "next BTS" than giving their artists the freedom and opportunities to express their talent. The difference between BTS members and other artists is huge, example: if JK, Jimin, V, Jin, Suga, Rm, Jhope, don't like something in the song, in the choreography, during Mv they have the knowledge and all the freedom to ask that it be changed and done as they want, or at least it is listened to their proposal, something that doesn't happen with other artists from other agencies because they have to follow to the letter what they are told to do. As long as the other agencies don't allow their artists to express themselves, they will not only beat BTS but will remain very little in the scene, as unfortunately happened with many other groups. Every artist must be himself and must have the goal of working constantly trying to improve more and more to achieve his dreams, not to beat others. Only then will the results come

It's unfair to any group to be compared to another successful group. BTS were compared to the Beatles which is silly as every group has their own story and journey to success or failure. BTS have fought to be where they are and accepted as real musicians beyond the K-Pop genre, which has been a difficult road for them. They have been through hardships most groups will never know because BTS did the hard work to get there. BTS are the pinnacle atm because they worked themselves to exhaustion and got up to do it all again. No one has the same drive and passion that BTS has. I have listened to other groups and no one makes music like BTS. How many other groups write, compose and produce their own music? Do they push boundaries with chord progression and raw lyrics? BTS got where they are by being themselves and being humble, open, honest with their fans. They created a relationship with the ARMY that is unlike any other fandom I've seen. And yes having such an enormous, zealous fanbase means that sales, votes, streams are all going to be beyond what another group can achieve. But BTS have had 10 years to get to this point, most of these 4th gen artists are only beginning their journey and to write them off because they are not BTS is ridiculous. People need to stop focusing on what they aren't, and start being what they are and making it work for them.

There really are too many groups, it is hard to feel like we have a chance to sample them all, or even more than a few. I like the eclectic nature of BTS songs. And I find I like the unusual, non-love driven songs of the few groups I have the time and energy to follow. When I follow bands, I choose BGs because I can hear them better. I used to listen to a lot of women's songs when I was younger (Celine Dion, Whitney Houston!...). But now for some reason my ears can't "hear" GGs as well, which is sad. The few groups I do listen to nearly daily, BTS, Stray Kids, TXT, TheRose, OnlyOneOf...all sound different from each other. For someee unfathomable reason, I'm also getting a bit excited about ZB1. As you say is hard for them cuz BTS already did a lot of different types of music and also messages that they put in concepts , so I guess the thing they can do is doing their way. For example BTS did the whole BE on how they felt of the pandemic , which make more rentable to people that were working or doing more responsibilities cuz of BTS age but TXT did a song about it from their POV which is more how teens felt with how to hang out and going to school. So I think that’s is big way to attract audience but it will be audience around their age which is good but also not taking seriously in the west , meanwhile BTS still have songs they did in the beginning relatable to teens but not COVID teens lol. Also i think if they do a genre that BTS haven’t done like hard rock metal they will get attention but the issue is that doesn’t sell well in SK like dreamcatcher have that problem.

Now that's the thing it's NOT CONCEPT's with BTS it's their story and their development as people what effects them what there interested in it's not oh let have a new concept or lets follow that concept or this concept. BTS are far more real they write, produce what's important to them. Not just has a group but as individuals. Also i have always said that it´s way easier to become popular as a girl group because they dont have the same stigma hanging over them like boyband has. but yes loyal fans who will buy 10 albums each is crazy to me. i have only bought one of each album from BTS. and i dont collect merch. the only thing i wanted was the special made like the guitar pic and the earing from jimin. but as usual Army is to large to compete. i just hope BTS will have many many concert stops in 2026 so i will be able to get a ticket but i doubt it. what we see now is a hunger for the reunion. Also i think BTS has a lot of casual fans too because the streams dont ad up to only Army. Seven for instance has some really insane streaming numbers that does beyond Butter and Dynamite and they had general public streams too back then i think everyone know those songs. but i think when people listen, they may not know who BTS is. and just love the song because, the name BTS dont reveal it´s a boyband. and there are also people who do know who just dont talk about it because they are afraid to be judge for liking a boyband hehe. but yes BTS is getting really many new fans lately. especially after the solo albums. the members proof they are big on their own and i am here for it. but BTS had both general public and fan loyalty. but there is also haters because Army is so loud on social media. they hate that we write on NBA when Suga is attending something. it´s so wired that there is someone who love BTS regardless and a few ekstrem haters who just want them gone.

It doesn't really matter that the comparison is unfair, the GP will be making it anyway. It's inevitable, and we should take it as a given when starting any critical analysis (or managers start planning). And if the Big 3, the labels and the idols themselves paid any attention to BTS at all they'd learn the hard-earned answer from Jin - accept yourself with all your own faults and mediocrities and aim to be better and to persist on your path. I mean, we've seen what happened with every attempt by studios to duplicate MCU without putting in the work and trying to skip the first steps and get to that billion immediately. Greed really is a logical fallacy, it forces these execs to ignore obvious truths and buy into the flimsiest of justifications in vain hope to get that large piece of pie that they hallucinated.

I think watching BTS emerge into the behemoth it is now involved watching a lot of attacks and comparisons based on pitting other group's worthiness or talents against BTS. While BTS overcame and exceeded, why are we still evaluating other's worthiness using comparative measures? Many of these groups are just getting going. I say BTS opened doors to the West. Let's evaluate how 4th generations' use or benefit from this opening down the road and not be overly judgemental as the invasion is just coming in.

I stan a different group and I never measure their success against BTS. What would be the point of that? The group I stan didn’t have an easy start, they work really hard for the craft and style they stay authentic to, their lyrics speak to relatable life issues and promote positivity and resilience, and they have a deep relationship with their fandom. I don’t believe this group wants to be like BTS otherwise they would not stay true to their style. BTS is amazing but “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and I’m drawn to the music I like like, just like everyone else is. K-pop is not homogenous. I get why you made this video but it does add to the rhetoric of constant comparison and one-up-man-ship. Just my perspective. Everyone is their own creation and should stay authentic to that so comparisons become mostly irrelevant. But that’s unfortunately and sadly a utopian dream.

@@AsianEntertainmentandCulture Yes. BTS was my first introduction to kpop but they didn't grab me in the same way SKZ did. They started as an "experiment" (a leader choosing the band) and have been criticised endlessly for their "noise" music (anyone ever listen to b-side ballads like "Cover Me", "Grow up", "Voices" or "Secret Secret"?), yet they kept working hard with said "noise" music till breakthrough with "God's Menu". Anyway, I digress. I mentioned I first learnt of kpop due to BTS and whilst I still follow them casually, I cannot ever see myself being army. It's not because they are not talented nor worthy of the "paved the way with kpop" acclaim (though some might say PSY did that but not here to argue). I just connect with the music differently. I know all the member names, I appreciate their creativity as individuals and the power behind their lyrics too (I've watched Festas and other content, listened to their solo content too). Yet I also follow other groups because of their different musical style that I prefer more often. Many commenters have implied there is just so much BTS content to follow they have no time or interest in anyone else or that they are not really into Kpop, just BTS only. That is a problem in kpop in general. One has to make the effort to branch out because there is A LOT. I only recently chose to dig deeper into other bands (The Rose, X-dinary Heroes, ATEEZ, TXT) but I suspect most army will say, other than the last group, that none of them really sound like BTS. And thus, I go back to my earlier point, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and we like who we like. The other thing is most groups respect their elders and it's just the media and fandoms who tend to pitch them against each other. I imagine most of the members of many groups face-palming every time a fan war breaks out. There are enough real wars about serious issues in the world that should take priority. Anyway, that's it for my essay. I'm not here or fan wars either. 🙂

I've been listening to k-pop casually since 2004, and let me tell you, in comparison with the best ones from the previous generations, most 4th generation boy group songs are just really hard to listen to in a casual, non-fan way. No matter what, most of them try to make their music sound extra "manly" and "rebellious" rather than melodic and catchy. The vocal range is also not very impressive, aside from just a handful of vocalists. And don't get me started about rap which is nothing like Rythm-And-Poetry and more like Rasp-And-Prose.

I never listened to k-pop before I stumbled into BTS. Now I have listened to quite a bit (can't get away if I have youtube running on it's own) and, while I have found *songs* I like by other groups (including older generation groups), no one has so consistently given me great songs like BTS. Not that they all sound alike. In fact, the opposite. It's amazing. I don't know if gen 4 is not getting a fair shake because of BTS as the comparison or if they are just demonstrating that K-pop as a whole (rather than BTS) doesn't have the same appeal which is why previous generations didn't make more inroads in the global market. No on thinks UK groups are mistreated because no one's out-Beatled the Beatles. Decades later, they still stand out. They've had winners and losers from UK but the Beatles aren't responsible for giving them visibility (perhaps paving the way) or standing in their way. Why would K-pop be different? Maybe BTS is just a unique group that happens to be Korean.

Why compare boy bands? They are all unique and different! The biggest difference is do they write their own songs or do they have to wait for a lyricist to give them one? The content of the song is dependent on the lyricists.

You hit the nail on the head. BTS have always written their own music. It's expected of them. TxT were formed under BigHit entertainment using the same formula as BTS. They must write their own music, choose the topic and have it approved. BTS are their big brothers and when TxT would perform at an award show, they would ask for a critique not always liking what they heard. But they continue on. They were debuted in 2018 and received there 1st Best New Artist Award in 2019, in Korea. Then everything hit the fan, COVID. That's one thing that really impacted 4th generation. BTS debuted in 2013 and I remember Ryan Seacrest interviewing them on his radio show maybe 2018 because of an award show? December 31, 2019 BTS were on New Years Rocking Eve from Times Square. They were on a stage surrounded by curtains and Jimin's face when he peeked through. He turned and said you won't believe how many people, it's such a party. They performed 2 songs in below freezing temps and then stood by Ryan for the countdown to 2020.They felt proud and important. Shortly after that stroke of 2020 the world stopped for COVID, but they were already here whereas 4th generation still were waiting for America. It's hard to play catch-up. TxT did play Lollapalooza last year and headlined it this year. You should see how they have learned to control the fans and they put on a nonstop 90 minute performance, never losing their stamina. Even BTS takes a moment here and there. Watch it. They're close just like BTS who lived together, starting with 7 teens in one small bedroom. You fight and grow stronger and closer, a family. I know that besides the COVID setback other groups are given their music, no freedom of expression so it all sounds the same. I don't know what their living situation is. When you're crammed together you learn each other's strength and rely on them as a real team. So timing, musical freedom and family bonding may be why so many have it difficult. I didn't know Seventeen was 4th generation because they debuted 2 years after BTS. Jungkook is even friends with those born in 1997. He and Mingyu recently did each other's dance challenge and were equally great. I know they can't change the makeup of the group after 8 years but I think Seventeen having 13 members is overwhelming. There's often something in a group you can pick out as a cause. Good luck to all but when a company tries to copy what BTS does but don't give them creative freedom they're doomed. They also have to be with their fans always. Talking to them online, writing songs for them letting them know that you realize they're why you're here, and you have to grow that fanbase Before you debut. I highly doubt they're standing on street corners handing out paper flyers saying come to my concert - Free ! You can't duplicate BTS and skip over major ingredients.

I've always thought that BTS should not be part of the Stigma associated with the Kpop Industry. That Kpop Tag has been detrimental to their rise and claim to fame. The AMI has catergorised their existence instead of accepting BTS as Global Artists of exceptional Talent. They should not be compared to any group within an Industry they were forced to adopt. An industry that tried every trick in the book to hinder their exposure. BTS represents a wide spectrum of music genres. Each member has immense talent. Every achievement well deserved. They worked hard and perservered so much and it saddens me that they still represent an Industry that can be toxic and unforgiving.

I think it just comes down to the fact that companies, the media, the fans and the industry as a whole need to stop trying to find ‘The Next BTS’ and they need to start trying to find ‘the first of someone else’. Michael Jackson was never trying to be the next [somebody]… neither were The Beatles, Whitney Huston, Adele, Taylor Swift, Eagles…. And in fact when people have constantly referred to BTS as “The next Beatles” they said (specifically Yoongi) “no, we are the first BTS”. Bts are CONSTANTLY used as the measure for success. No group or company or fanbase EVER has a their own goal… it’s ALWAYS something BTS has done, and sometimes they’re brash enough to just admit that they’re trying to “break BTS’ record”. I understand that there’s benchmark achievements and milestones that almost every artist would dream of, and it would only be logical to pursue it… but it becomes obvious that BTS is the benchmark when they and their fans strive for nothing else /outside/ of what BTS has achieved. Armys learned about the industry, and over time we went for what was achieveable. These other fandoms, groups and companies aren’t doing that. Groups do interviews or fans set comeback goals, and said goals or aspirations are completely unrealistic for the current position the group is in… it’s just painfully obvious that these goals are not studies and well thought out plans of ‘what can we achieve realistically?’ like what army did, but rather ‘oh BTS did this, now we should do it too.’ And again that’s more often than not out of a desire to ‘beat BTS’ equally as much, if not more than just wanting an achievement for their group.

I think time is a factor too. The longer the groups are successful the more success we'll see. It wasn't that long ago that some of the groups mentioned were selling 2 million and now they are selling 5m. I wish there was a way to collect data though. I have friend who are "army only" and I have friends who are multis and follow many groups. I personally like the idea that the songs from my bgs are a form of communication between fans and artists. Everyone has their preference. To me it's important that the artist I stan are good people, not perfect, but good. I might listen to ggs but I don't stan them. Most because my preference in choreo, fashion, and topic keep me from going all in. Its definitely an interesting topic and one that I never get bored of.

They sell 5M albums because they make like 20 or more version of their albums, and the double of photocards (I think I saw one group with 200 photocards ???) Meanwhile BTS only ever did 4 versions of their abums, sometimes even less (I think BE only had 1 version) you cannot compare the sales of these albums if the difference in the number of versions of the albums is so big. I'm not good at maths but I'm gonna try to explain this, if BTS best selling album sold 5M copies with only 4 versions: 5.000.000 ÷ 4 = 1.250.000 If this is the number of fans that bought the 4 versions available then let's say that BTS makes 20 versions of an album instead of only 4: 1.250.000 x 20 = 25.000.000 😮 See?? It makes no sense to compare the numbers, not until they are on an even playing ground. If I remember correctly a few weeks ago Korea said they would investigate the number of albums and photocards the companies were putting out, and yes, all the companies are gonna be investigated (SM, YG, JYP, Hybe, lol). Another thing, while BTS had 5M sales the streams of their albums matched the sales, 3M or 5M sales with 3B or 5B streams, NOW if you see the so called million sellers nowadays, the data shows like 7M sales and only 300M streams at best for the whole album! That's not good and at the end of the day it's all inflated data. 😕

@beluuzz The whole point of the video is that we can say other groups are successful even when they are not at BTS's level. Because let's be real, no one is going to reach it. But do they make a profit? Do they cover their costs? Do they have fans? Can they tour? Are they growing with each comeback? If they can do all those things and still make money, then they are successful. You are doing the same thing the media does and comparing it to BTS's #'s. Other groups can be considered successful without reaching that level, as long as they are turning a profit 📈

Mots7 has billions of streams, impact and critical acclaim behind it. BTS is unique I think. They deserve so much recognition, and deserve success. They are so closeknit and work together so well, It's not really valid to continue sticking them in the kpop box, they have too much varied talent. That being said, not many groups have such varied talent as them, so I cannot even compare them, right? Haha. I DO like some songs of others, but kpop in itself I am not too interested in. I find I dislike the overall treatment of groups esp strongly disagree with starving and fasting in unhealthy ways to look a certain way for fans. That really bothers me. So I find myself veering from kpop with others. But some singers are amazing and I do follow them. I also (no hate), find a lot of the female groups just do not APPEAR healthy, or happy. Lifeless going through the motions, and looking sick are not things I find enjoyable to see. 😢 It's sad and actually makes me upset so I avoid those groups. Ah well. Some I like, some I don't and some I cannot watch. Just like any other genre of music. But back to the original statement, bts I think is unique.l, because there is incredible diverse strengths in each member and so much energy and talent. It's almost hard to describe. But, I can say, I am firmly in their corner and can't wait for what comes next.

How fair and articulated is your research when you get one of the most basic point WRONG: SVT IS NOT A 4TH GEN GROUP BUT A 3RD GEN ONE Your research in this video seems to push you pre conceived notion of a topic to reinforce your idea upon it rather than to find out the actual reality. BTS is a once in a time phenomenon, did they work hard for it? Yes but were they also extremely lucky? Yes, to be honest the underdog story bts sold was true but not exclusive to them, other groups from countless companies went throgh the same. Sure the artistry of bts is good but not so expectional that was never seen in a music genre before, it was their true hardwork that they became big but let's not forget they were helped by industry's specialist bangpd which was friend of jyp and pdogg, one of the most well known producer in Korea. So yes in a summary bts was once in a time happening, they paved the way, sure yes but they also closed the door with them because they were hit by streaks of luck along with their hardwork.

Every other boy groups have the same boring concept with bad songs. They aren't even at the level of Stray Kids. Even bighit boygroups have bad music like TXT and Enhypen. Only NewJeans is comparable to BTS and Blackpink. Heck 4th gen girl groups are 100 times better than boring 4th gen boygroup

Kpop aren't Talented their vocals are lame just covered by autotunes and high technologies they don't have RAW talents they depends on visuals .on the other hand the rising star Ppop boygroup SB19 set the high standard of a Boyband their live vocals is very Raw their dancing skills are on point and sync. They can sing all types of GENRES ballad, rock, rap & RnB they're called the VOCAL MONSTERS they don't need high quality visuals or a bunch of back up dancers just to perform very powerful on stage.SB19 IS MORE TALENTED THAN BTS just that BTS is the first to break through but not long enough SB19 will shine the most in the near future GLOBALLY ❤❤❤

Lmao, youre not Army so you wouldnt understand the growth, determination, persistance, humbleness, journey, charisma, etc...of Bts. Bts also have a variety of genres in their discography. Also, you probably dont know anything about their music process, storylines, lyricism, the elements they incorporate to get their messages across. Bts have many live sessions since debut, I love their vocals because they are all distinct, beautiful and have their own vocal color that blends well together. Also, Bts will always be the first Asian act to achieve what many couldnt. Ill just be waiting til 2025...

Grops nowadays (especially male groups) are selling 5M albums or more because they make like 20 or more versions of their albums, and double or triple of photocards (I think I saw once a group with 200 photocards ???). Meanwhile BTS only ever did 4 versions of their abums, sometimes even less (I think BE only had 1 version) you all cannot compare the sales of these albums if the difference in the number of versions of the albums is so BIG. 😕

@@beluuzz It's sad really, because some of those albums get bought up by people who are wealthy. Meanwhile, there must be a lot of fans of those artists who can't afford to buy albums and what do those wealthy fans do instead? They throw them away : / I sometimes buy different versions of an album too. Like Mots 7 for example. But I resell them for really cheap or even give them away for free to other ARMYs who can't afford anything. But that's more ARMY's mentality, I guess.

I think a lot of ppl missed the point that a lot of BTS fans are not kpop fans but are Bts fans. I can attest to this .I may like a few others kpops songs but definitely not fangirling over the artist. No disrespectto any artist but I think ppl definitelymissed this point. .the only reason why I know some of IU songs is because JK wouldn't stop talking about her so I had to find out who this girl was.
