I have seen portals on 3 vehicles in person. In each instance the leverage began flexing the axle too much. In each case they are going to replace the axles with stronger ones.
Unsprung weight definitely makes the truck feel different, but 74Weld is the only manufacturer we've tried that is making the uprights and boxes out of billet aluminum. It's a lot lighter and FAR less noticeable than the competition.
It is certainly a great mod... price is relative. When you consider what goes into these portals and what you get out of them, the benefits definitely outweigh the cost assuming you're going to use them.
Talking about 74Weld vs other brands… spend more on better portals. The phrase "buy once, cry once" means to purchase a high-quality, expensive item, even though you might have some initial reservations or guilt about the cost. The idea is that you'll be glad you spent the money in the long run.
@@dwighthouser Yes, I am familiar with the phrase, but $20K just for the portals themselves without the cost of labor to install and without the cost of any additional parts/upgrades that is needed is crazy. The majority of consumers do not have that kind of money readily available. The product is awesome but the cost is not and that's why it's funny.
I built my whole rig for 10k and there’s no where you’ll go that I won’t. You said, 35k including labor. That’s a joke. People, learn to build it yourselves. It’s not hard and you won’t pay for ridiculously overpriced parts.
Whether the end of your tie rods are connected on one end or two, basically. 74Weld has the option for both, but double shear costs another $600 (worth it IMO).
