A lot of the reason why we were dropped was because of our uncool status like Pro_fart said, but it also had to do with the fact that our saggin' pants and bullshit attitudes didn't help. As a collective, no one listened to instructions, and our formatting didn't really work for "run" style contests. Other sports resented the fact we existed (very much in the same way we look at scooters today).

This is very entertaining. As someone that has skated long distance and crappy surfaces for years on aggressive small wheeled skates I love to watch others struggle! Feel my pain! I just got some new aggressive boots but got 72mm frames and wheels to make my life a bit easier.

Does agressive wheels get used sooner if you skate around the city? I always thought it'a only for skate parks
@inlinemonkey8477
@inlinemonkey8477 3 года назад
@@RapIsDrug No, the breakdown is similar, or even slower than regular inline skate wheels due to the hardness. Aggressive wheels are just smaller and harder wheels, with that being said it can be a little more challenging in the city.

What do you mean by long distances? I've been looking to buy an aggressive skate but I'm not sure if it's worth it
@bleepbloopblahp
@bleepbloopblahp 3 года назад
@@WheelerKyle I meant 10-20 kilometres as a minimum for long distances. When I used to ride those distances and further on aggressive skates I was using them as transport from suburbia to the city and then skating in them when I got there before skating home. Buying an aggressive skate is a great idea and their worth is really all about being able to do tricks with them you couldn't without them. They are super fun if you are into tricks like grinds and are built to take a lot more abuse than other skates. But there is always a trade off. Honestly a great solution is owning multiple pairs of skates of different styles. Use one set for doing marathons and another at the skatepark.
@inlinemonkey8477
@inlinemonkey8477 3 года назад
@@WheelerKyle He means long distance as in a far away distance, which is set in a long period of time. I have done the same and managed to skate 4 hours long distance with my aggressive skates. What are you looking to get out of aggresive skates? Urban use, or good ol grinding and tricks?

Great video! im an intermediate skater and i found it really helps when using gloves it makes it so you take the impact and it will sting but from even some of my harder crashes it doesn't break the skin. to all beginners reading this wear gloves that cover your whole hand and have some rubber on them it makes you take a lot less damage and theres no downsides. i use gloves brand name "head" and ive had 5 hard crashes with them on and not even a scratch not to me nor the gloves.

@myotiswii
@myotiswii 3 года назад
So I have been skating through the city with my Agressive skates since I skated, which is quite long now,and it wanted to give my opinion. Of course they aren't as effective because of their small wheels. Hockey stops are annoying but spin breaking is great. Long strides are compleatly ok with a bit of practice. I have a flat setup with a tiny bit of rocker, which is a lot nicer than the shown antirocker setup. That makes them even heavier than they already are which definitely is annoying for longer trips. Still worth it. So in general would I recommend skating through the city with aggressive skates? Yeah totally! Especially when having to look out for cars and pedestrians it doesn't make difference speedwise, is just as safe, and feels good. Especially when you just want to get to a skatepark.

@@AlmostLakai94 Yeah, I have aeon 60,that are worn down to be quite a bit smaller and they totally work for the city. I have noticed that they wear down a bit more than normal wheels, but that is not a huge downsize. You should try something like the USD aeon 60 for a nicer middlenground between small wheel anti rocker and fast city skate. The Aeon keeps things as low as possible while giving a slightly larger wheel and still some ability to grind. And running the larger 60mm wheels with 4 flat will help a LOT with the cracks and bumps.n

My struggle between aggressive and urban/free skates is that the aggressive skates have that, sleek, cool and minimalist look that i like plus some cool colorways. I'm not looking to grind, so there's almost no point in me getting them other than for the look of it. I'm struggling to find free skates that achieve the same look, so wondering if it makes sense to get aggressive flat skates (4 wheels instead of 2) with larger wheels
@BillStoppard
@BillStoppard 3 года назад
Yes, if you like 'skating' you must get 4 wheels. Anti Rocker is so prohibitive on the streets; no stairs, no easy curb rolls, no rolling speed bumps, bad in potholes. A skate with a huge gap (h-block) is made for parks/rails, but is miserable on the streets. 60mm and above can be perfectly skate-able. 70mm+ will give you full boot clearance on powerstops and crossovers.

So the answer to the title of your video is... "no"? Or are you determined to make these work for a city skate? I'm sure you can make them work if you want to. Good for you for trying, makes for an entertaining video that you had to pay a price for! I'm not sure it would be worth the effort. Lawrence at Back To Blading just did a city skate on some aggressive skates with the Oysi (wish) frames. 72mm on the outsides and 60mm on the insides creates a slight banana rocker on the Oysi. He said it was a good option for city skating while looking for some grind spots along the way. I think you'd like the Oysi frame for skating aggressive with a 4 wheel per skate set up as it also has a good h-block space for grinding. I'm missing being in the Toronto area this summer as I'd love to hit some of those locations we skated last year. Take care!
@BillStoppard
@BillStoppard 4 года назад
If these could take stairs I would bring them out more. They are very easy to grind on and enjoyable for the short skate to the park. I really was pushing the limits and prepared to fall; wore ass pads in this one. If I'm patient they can be safer than in this vid. I've been eyeing the oysi, but am loving the huge easy h block gap on these while I iron out the basics. Toronto will be even better next summer (more bike lanes going in), we'll hit it then Shawn!!

I'm considering grabbing some 72s for light commuting and urban tricks. Think I'd be okay? Or should I go with 90mm+ skates? Probably won't do much grinding but I hear such good things about Aeons lol

I really want the Aeon 80, but my size in Aeon is 4 - 5, and the Aeon 80 only starts at 6 / 7. I got the Aeon 60 in 4 / 5 which fits perfectly, but would you say city skating in them are fun or does it suck?

@@mountainpeakcloud8442 I’d say it’s fun! Definitely a bit more of a challenge but definitely fun to city skate in

@@temasuuu Awesome! Thank you for the feedback. Everyone has been telling me 80mm or at least 72mm are the smallest you should go for urban, and 60mm are going to suck ,because you feel and have to deal with every little crack and bump...

@@mountainpeakcloud8442 yup no problem! You definitely will feel more but it’s totally possible I’ve done the same 8 mile loop in my 60s. It’s a helluva workout but also real fun when you got lil obstacles and stuff I’m the way

Would the Aeon 60 with a flat 4 wheel 60mm setup work for skating around town? I unfortunately can’t fit the smallest Aeon 72 or 80 skates, but I fit the Aeon 60 perfectly. Would they work for urban skating or would it be no fun?

Is throwing some 4x80 frames on aggressive skates good for city and free cruising?

No, they're designed almost exclusively for parks. If the wheels are below 60mm they're for tricking, not skating.

Damn, im a beginner and i thought itll be easier using lower wheel like this aggressive skate on the road. I dont mind its slower, but it seems it tripped easily 😢

I'm a 72 year old who took up roller blades a couple of months ago (did ice skate on lakes when younger) and I've benefited greatly from watching your videos. I'd contribute $$ to your efforts if you had a PayPal account.

If you check the video description there's a link at the bottom for his teespring store. There you can buy his merchandise with various slogans and what not on. This appears to be the only way to financially contribute towards Bill. He doesn't have a patreon, RU-vid membership or even an affiliate link to his skate shop sponsor yet unfortunately. I get the feeling he's doing okay financially though tbf. 👍
