In this video, Jimmy Akin and Dr. Hugh Ross discuss the merits of the demon-aliens hypothesis which states that all alien/UFO reports are really the result of demonic activity. In his work, Dr. Ross defends the truth of the hypothesis, while Jimmy has several arguments against it.

Those who do not believe in God do not believe in the 'supernatural', they only believe in the physical world, hence UFO's are extraterrestrials. They rather believe in wrapping space and time, warps speeds, anti gravity, teleportation, etc.

@michaeldarwin6695 3 месяца назад
@@timtancik7005 For sure, but I wasn't seeing Dr. Ross make any blanket statements. He even agreed that many, if not most UAP sightings are natural phenomena. Jimmy says he is agnostic about the whole thing, but that's what the new (super cringe) atheists say. They say "Im open to the existence of a God" and then they proceed to shoot down any evidence of the supernatural and assume naturalism/materialism is true. My question to Jimmy would be the same as to what theists always ask the nonbelievers, and that is: what evidence would convince you these *are* demons? Again, not bashing Jimmy, I really have gleaned a lot from him, but I found it surprising that he was arguing in this way.

The problem with Jimmy’s position is that he has unclear position, no framework and no conclusion. I do not even understand what he is arguing for. It is also unclear by what standard he is willing to accept or reject certain claims and evidences.
@wachuku1
@wachuku1 3 месяца назад
The debate is centered on the question “Are Aliens and UFOs actually demons?” Ross is arguing the case with positive evidence to affirm the position, while Akin is arguing with negative evidence to disaffirm it. So, there’s no inherent flaw in his position, which is that the UFO phenomenon does not always align well with demonic (aka spiritual) activity, and that one cannot dismiss the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe. What makes that unpopular here is that he is relying less on the Bible to assess this all; but, it lets him not start with a conclusion already in mind. For as much as Ross is well versed on the topic, he has already decided that all the UFO activity is demonic, and that there is simply no chance for life outside of Earth.
@jookyuh
@jookyuh 3 месяца назад
@@wachuku1 Thanks for explaining though I already understand the position and the argument. I understand Ross's argument and he lays it out very clearly (whether they are convincing or not is a different matter). I think you missed my point entirely. My point is that Akin lacks a good structure to his argument (clear thesis, framework and logic to arrive at his "inconclusion", i.e. there is a possibility of advanced outer space civilizations, and data points to back his logic and how he evaluated those data points). All Akin does is offer counter examples of the data points offered by Ross (e.g. advanced civilization could have made advanced material, theoretical possibility of faster than light travel without grounding it in physical reality, etc.) and resort to authority to make his argument (eg. latest Drake equation estimate by some authoritative figure, positions held by Michio and Hosenfeld without explaining why they hold such a position, etc.). He is willing to apply some supernatural explanations but in some cases he is not willing to do so. It would be good to understand his framework for assessing data points presented.

@@jookyuh I understood your point. I don’t agree, though. For example, his thesis is that there’s not enough evidence for one to always entertain a demonic connection, because (1) the spiritual nature of the objects in question is not clear, (2) limiting our knowledge of physics to our current understanding of it is temporally unwise (analogously, it took millennia for most modern agricultural techniques to mature to their current states. Thomas Malthus even believed the Earth would be overpopulated in a few centuries and outstrip the abilities for agricultural processes even in the future to meet the demands. Technological and agricultural revolutions have significantly raised the upper limit of how many the Earth can sustain more than he or his contemporaries thought possible), and (3) that, for as large as the universe is, most astronomers and physicists only state that life and interstellar travel is mathematically unlikely, not demonstrably impossible, as Ross believes. Ross appears to be alone in that regard within his field, whereas his broader community is much more open to the possibility of even intelligent life elsewhere (of the famous ones, the now passed Stephen Hawking and Neil deGrasse Tyson, for example). That hadn’t wavered throughout the debate. As for the standards he uses to entertain or not entertain the supernatural, I concur that it could be more transparent for my liking. However, Ross is in the same boat, since his worldview requires at least some reinterpretation of the scriptures to accommodate his knowledge of physics and astronomy, oftentimes in unpopular or unusual ways. These are two Christians who trust that the universe and Earth are billions of years old rather than the 6-10,000 years that a plain reading of the Bible leads Young Earth Creationists to believe. They are also working with hypotheticals and the preternatural, which makes the arguments harder to argue for or against scientifically. However, as some others here have noted, Ross’ position on this seems to come from confirmation bias, which Akin tacitly points out. To me, Akin’s problem in this debate is ultimately one of popularity and reception, not his approach to establishing and explaining his position.

Believe it or not, this phenomenon is tied to spiritualism. In short, these beings are working to bridge the sci-fi atheistic-minded folks and the Christian world to the mystical. Search" the full testimony of Roger Morneau" to hear how this was predicted decades ago. Believing in the pagan doctrine of the immortality of the soul is the door that opens one up to this kind of deception. Ross bias is there but it's kind of well founded. I think Ross overall point gets to your challenge. He is saying the vastness of interstellar space makes it virtually impossible for organic life to show up here. All astrophysicists have respect for that point. Meanwhile we don't even have radio signals of intelligent life. And there are evolutionary challenges to life in other places in our galaxy such as the dense star cores or black holes. Really the only point in favor of the possibility of alien life is just the sheer numbers of stars we're talking about. We have our best physicists working on these ideas and its hard to get beyond general relativity. Does that mean therefore demons? No it doesn't and I'm glad JA pushed back a little on that point. Last point and this is not definitive, but worth filing away. If I wanted to distract humans from God, I'd lure them to the modern day golden calf-- that's technology-- that is our idol in 2024. That and environmental crusading.

1:40:00ish I agree with Dr. Ross that alien life is unlikely to exist anywhere in the universe on a naturalistic model. The odds are beyond astronomical and, even if life did happen naturally elsewhere, it would take so long that it would likely never evolve to our intelligence, let along technological state, let alone beyond, before their sun died. The problem with his argument that I've pointed out to many over the years is that we are not naturalists, we are Christians and so we believe life was created by God and guided. At least to some degree, so that we could defy the odds of our species getting to this level and beyond before our sun dies. There's no reason to think that God might not have done the same elsewhere and He may have also gifted them with significantly greater intelligence and faster evolution so that they could be thousands or even millions of years ahead of us technologically and nothing in the faith precludes that possibility.

I clicked on this video as a non subscriber and did not realize that the majority of the audience here is christian, and upon finishing the thought provoking podcast, I thought Jimmy made a lot of sense and made strong valid points throughout, but the comment sections seems to lean towards Dr. Hugh, I suspect is the sense of familiarity in dissecting the unknown, compounded and influenced by the existing belief in Christianity of this community is what skewed the overall perception and outcome of the debate, a very well executed debate by both individuals I must say, really enjoyed it. i'm not as keen to determine who came out on top of the debate, but more so of the quality of the substance being discussed, I also noticed Dr. Hugh is arguing strongly based on our very limited understanding of current sciences, philosophy & religion, and he is very sure of it, I think that's the grave mistake from his part, is to assume with such confidence that something is physically impossible because we can't do it, it is very flawed, no disrespect to Dr. Hugh I'm sure he is well read, but more so of his approach in thinking and piecing knowledge together. I grew up in Christian schools and attend churches since I was little, so I'm very familiar with the fundamentals of Christ and His teachings, however I strongly suggest to all christians to think critically on this subject matter and perhaps if you could move away from thinking that Non-Human Intelligence are entities depicted in the Bible as good angels and bad angels, this topic will greatly expand further, allowing for more grounded discussion beyond just angels and demons and that they are bad for us.

This marked the beginning of a lifetime filled with spiritual encounters and miracles. At sixty, celestial lights revealed themselves as loving, deeply spiritual angels. Then, at sixty-nine, an Ophanim emerged from the Orbs, imparting wisdom on love and cosmology. The Earth orbits the Sun, and our Solar System completes a 250-million-year journey around the galaxy. As we move into a new region of the galaxy, everything is evolving. Christ’s teachings on the power of love remain universal, though religious institutions often falter in fear. The problem with Dr. Ross's argument in regards to the impossibility of traversing intersetellar space is that it is based on our known understanding of physics. He already demonstrated that these craft are doing things that defy our known laws of physics. By Dr. Ross's own explanation, many of these craft have shown that they don't experience the friction and heat of traveling through air, they also don't create waves or suffer from a loss of speed when entering the water. This would imply that they are somehow manipulating whatever is in their immediate path and sort of slicing through it or bending the obstacles around it as opposed to smashing through it. This would imply that they could travel through space in a strait line and not hit anything.
