You may come across a mean nursery worker, an unfair teacher, misdiagnosis when you take your child to the doctors, you may witness your child not getting the job she or he worked so hard for and has to result to a different career, police brutality (Chris Kaba). These things can all be explained away... separately. But when there is a rain cloud following your child who happens to be a child of colour you may see things a little differently.

I don’t know if anyone will see this, but me, as an Irish person, has been taught of the many injustices of the British empire - in Ireland. The racism experienced by my ancestors by the British - towards white people. It doesn’t take much of a open mind to understand that the British empire wasn’t specifically racist to people of other skin colours. Most people in Ireland are white as snow and there is still a seriously oppressive history of slavery and discrimination here, between different groups of white people. The problem isn’t the English not being taught about the injustices of the empire against people of colour, it’s the English not being taught about the injustices of the empire all together. This expands much further than just race. The country is not built on racial abuse it’s built on abuse. The English were abusive towards other people regardless of race, the empire just happened to claim less powerful land outside of Europe - which generally consisted of people of colour, which is where this myth of colour specific slavery and discrimination comes from. Irish people were enslaved also, and discriminated to the point where pubs in England would have placards outside that stated “No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish.” The Irish came below dogs. This is where Munroes argument falls apart, she is stubborn and very specific in her research, allowing her to be caught out in many areas.
Not just the Irish, which would be very recent. White people have been enslaved many times throughout history. By other whites, by Arabs, even by black and brown people. This 'unique black experience' isn't really unique at all. If we count oppression and enslavement by the Crown and royalty landlord's too, which we totally should, almost every white family was once a slave.
Indentured Servants amd so on too. If u couldnt pay someone off THEY OWNED YOU!!!! So hell yea!! And if it ever was there are so many MANY laws and regulations, programs, initiatives, and policies out there to reprimand those who actively pursue discrimination. Its a joke to say a huge problem is occuring with racism. If the pointed out specific areas then itd be easier to fix. But these people tout everything is racist and homophobic… really and type of -ism or phobia they can lash out at to get their agenda across
When we look into world history we realise that the story of civilisations is one of suppression, destruction and exploitation along with the building of culture and empires. And then we realise that our freedom is very new. Most people were legally unfree. Bonded serfs etc. Universal citizen rights for males (personal freedom, right to vote and own property) only date back to around 1870 in central Europe. For women a little later, comparatively.
I wonder what she thinks of the history of many African nations that offered slaves to European colonists inn exchange for firearms, gunpowder and many other things.
BigKuriboh EVERY single civilization in recorded human history built its success on slavery throughout the centuries. That's simply history. So many professions within the UK in inner city areas now are completely dominated by first or second/third immigrant groups such as Nursing, mental health and care. I always posit the same question. You're the owner of a company (hypothetical) you get two candidates from a job, one white polish, one from African descent. The employer rejects both. He says 'Africans are naturally lazy, uneducated and don't have a will to work.' He rejects the Polish candidate on the basis that 'Eastern Europeans are dead inside, they are naturally inferior, they have no personality, they are limited in their ability to progress.' So both get rejected. Anyone who woud DARE say rejection number 1 is racist, and the rejection of Number 2 is just 'personal prejudice, and NOT racism.' There is NOTHING more divisive than a hierachy of victimhood.
Africans were enslaving each other long before the white man showed up... white people didn't start slavery but white people were some of the first people to fight to abolish slave trade practices!!
It would destroy her bubble that the tribe leader sold their most weak bastards to merchants for a pack of cigarettes because he would have no use of them or that people who would let catch them on their own land are now the ancestors of the “great” black American culture. The same weak blood that was sold or caught is being pumped by the hearths of these people. This is the biggest red pill everyone is too proud to take. For me I was lucky being taught the true history. When black peoples brag about being so proud of them I want to laugh. Not because they are black. All humans are the same there should be no slaves. But because they are proud of being the children of the ones who were sold for less than pack of cigarettes by their own people or for being children of the ones who let some foreigners caught them on their own land. Not only that, people killing and enslaving others is something that has been a testament to civilization and culture. Take the crusades, that the fall of the romans, the rule of the Pharoah, the fighting amongst native clans...it goes on and on. What am I to judge my neighbors simple cause of what they looks like. Is that not in essence the same as dehumanizing some for my own benefit or belief. Animals are more human in that case and we as "humans" would need to re define our sense of life and meaning. Just saying its best to recognize what happen and move forward not with trying to keep it in our back pocket and instead find productive ways to be equal while respectful. I mean just think: All people should be seen as equal. Yet we judge and lower their value based on thier decisions like thier sex or preferences. She ignores any evidence or argument that doesn’t fit with her world view. She is unable to see things objectively. Nothing will change her mind. No argument and no evidence.
It's because the theory of racism she's been taught is that privileged people are ... lacking in empathy, somehow? ... and simply aren't able to appreciate the struggle of others. Anybody who's _not_ privileged is able to discern the thoughts and motivations of others and speak for them. It's massive, massive special pleading in order to allow activists like this to try and argue _both_ sides of the argument.
Adam Smith I can understand that someone who has gender issues and has been subjected to abuse will be sensitive. She feels persecuted. But the problem is applying those emotions and experiences on to the wider picture “the UK is racist” or “all white people are racist.” These are not issues that relate to her lived experience but to objective facts and evidence. When she is confronted with those she has no answer and regresses back into her world of persecution.
@@kataminkaitin2844 The problem is her lived experience (or just “experience” as it could be called) probably does involve racism and intolerance and I can understand why, in some people, this could lead to having a real sensitivity about it. The issues that woman has she passes on to her children. Would you passes it on to the next group and to the next group until they have to fix it themselves. Your schools don't tell you that the time like doesn't tell you that. This was happening all around the world to this group of people for Generations swear they didn't even know who or what or where they came from. So when you free them and think that they are going to be just like everybody else. You are actually lying to yourselves and world. When people have friends that are shot beside them. Those people need therapy. What happens when generations of one group of people are consistently rate killed abused used and then go on educated. Then they're told their free and they can mingle with Society. A society of people that look like they hate them and treated them that way. It was not an easy transition to see someone you owned actually going out and acting as if they are human when you dehumanize them the whole time. They weren't treated with respect. Now you're saying your history which has been taught through white eyes and white thoughts is somehow going to teach you that it what's wrong what they did and how they did it. No this is where white supremacy comes in. It was for the betterment of Britain or the United States or whatever country you're talking about. That was the way back then was it not? The problem is the ignorance that people want to carry when they try to say things are better now. Once one group holds all the power and has resentment to another group that group was no power it's always on the heel of the group with power. The same goes for people throw a white person people that are black. One feels they are entitled the other one feels they have to fight for everything. This is stuff that psychology books beg for. Yet no one ever touches this because it is too deep atopic and too revealing of people in power.
@@stevemartin7798 you obviously do not know what black slavery was. And why it still is a problem till this day. Never actually thought about what it meant for someone to have gone through that. Much less the whole Community has gone through that. Then to think about they had to now fix themselves without understanding who they work because they were there for so long. It is easy to fix yourself once you know who you were but when your history is erased and lied about it is even harder to find out who you are or should that be. And then to being a society where there is systemic racism or just hatred towards you period not to mention a community that is broken with all those broken pieces come together as one and told to act normal. There is a lot of problems in their Community because of the way things are done and are still being done period not to mention wealth and power and how they treat people
@@jasonking3651 i'm sorry i cant see what your point is, I accept that our past history is not all glory, I agree that by todays standards our history is horrendous. but I can guarentee that the times we are living through right now will have an impact on the future. everybody names Britain and America has the major benefactors of slavery, why are they always singled out? what about the Belgians, Spain, Portugal, France etc. What about the nations that are involved in slavery today mainly middle eastern nations? You talk about trauma as if its colour related? i dont understand that! you say that the trauma suffered by ancestors have an impact on todays relatives, well i dont feel the trauma of my grandad who served in the second world war. As a former serviceman i can relate to it, but i cant feel it nor be able to understand how it affected him. if you are suggesting that all white people are guilty of suppressing other people who dont look like them, then Isuggest you look at history with out colour. look at the height of the Muslim empire, believe it or not they raided the south coast of England and Ireland and kidnapped them for slavery. All I believe is that if we keep looking backwards we will always have a problem moving forward. lets not forget a major elemant of todays so called suppression of ethnic minorities, remember where govts. put them to live!! look around they are not living in Knightsbridge they live in predominately white underdeveloped and deprived areas alongside white underprivileged families.
@@taffshep1 after reading what you said. I understand why you have a problem understanding. You don't want to see that one group did not do or have not anything wrong. The problem we did a lot of things wrong in history. We rate the land as well as the people on it. One of the reasons why we kept sending people than ships was because the gold and the resources on the continent were being used up just to be claimed as wealth. So well also became a thing for owning people as slaves. When you keep taking from the land and you take the people on the land as well that in itself is an abuse. Now our standard is the wealthier you are the more powerful you are. It was the same back then. When it comes to trauma I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather and what they went through. I am thankful for what he did. But trauma to a family or a small group of people for one generation or 5 years, is completely different from generations of being broken so that you can serve. Remember these were strong Warriors that were engineers and all the other things that were broken by the whip and mental games or what will be known as mental Warfare. These men and women were stripped of their religion their culture and their identity. And then they were constantly Sean they had little-to-no value. They watched as family members and friends were thrown off ships to prove that point. Their children were born into slavery whipped raped sold putting fields to work to death literally all in the name of making sure people of A different race were able to say they were rich and had enough money to take care of themselves. There is a trauma that happens to you when you are treated that way for Generations. You are comparing five years to over five generations of that. If you think about a generation a lifetime could be 68 years for each generation. If you had children they were taken away from you and sold. Reason why they were sold was because the attachment of a father fighting for his child or Mother fighting for their child was too risky. So they were always sold. Until they were completely broken. So now we're talkin about Generations into slavery. When you have a group of people that are constantly being shown that they are worth nothing and they have children and they have children and they have children and each generation is being shown they are worth nothing. We kill them if they show and signs of intelligence to prove that they are as just a little smarter than animals. Then we free these people once we morally wake up. We force them to live in the poorest conditions that still insist that they have little to no value. We portrayed them a foolish savages that know no better so that they are view by most as a threat. When they show intelligence and build up into more than we thought and more than us we burned down their prosperous cities or businesses. (This still happens in business dealings). Giving them more reasons to not work hard yet they still do. We highlight the same problems in their communities that we have. We just imply it is worse in their communities than ours. We now know that type of trauma needs therapy. Then we let them have none while still trying to Imply that they have very little value. The African countries are still paying billions to a lot of the European countries for Europeans losing their properties. So you see it is the money for the rich. In the United states it is the money made in many ways like the privatized prisons.
I don’t get why she is saying there is no progression when in UK schools we have black history month and are educated on matters such as slavery and the British empire.
Me Mo well, I’m English and live in Australia. It’s no different. You either like people or you don’t. Here, indigenous tend to stick together. My husbands family are half indigenous. The only problem they have is being heard. They want to be part of things, and it’s getting better. But, there’s no killing because someone is indigenous. No hatred that I’ve ever seen my husbands family experience. You get idiots who just hate everyone....but, this munroe is absolutely ignorant.
@@pommiebears unfortunately racsim is a huge issue in Australia especially in the justice system. Also, a 15 yr old Indigenous boy was bashed and killed by a group of white Australians last week because the young boy was Aboriginal. It's absolutely horrible. Just because your husband hasn't experienced racsim (thank God) it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Go march with the Indigenous peoples on Survival Day and see non-Indigenous peoples (white men mainly) hurl racism abuse at the Indigenous peoples marching. It's messed up. P.S. I'm speaking from experience.
As a white person that went to a majority black school, I can tell you that racism is alive and well. But it wasn’t the white kids being racist, it was the black kids being racist towards everyone else.
So basically she doesn't like statistics but then brings up anecdotes about her own personal bad experience and broad applies that towards every black person's mental health/experiences in Britain. lmao.. holy shit.. She acts like you cant get statistics regarding mental health or peoples personal experiences regarding race during their time in school and shit.. she really just came to the interview with 0 facts and 100% emotion and anecdotes.
The 10:33 mark is absolute gold. After being absolutely hammered with facts her argument just fizzles out. It’s a glorious, glorious moment. Well played Andrew Marr
It seems the one person on the couch whose views seem racist is the person who claims they are against racism!!! I cannot get my head around this constant claim that more diverse and ethnic groups should be holding posts higher in society just for the sake of equality,. It should quite simply be the best person for the job regardless of colour, creed, age, gender whatever. Would it therefore be considered racist for instance if less white men would be hired in a variety of jobs in the future just in the name of equality>?
It is already happening. We have companies hiring candidates just in the name of gender diversity and not on qualification. Deserving candidates are loosing out on jobs because the company wants to look good and supportive of gender equality.
But her mum is white 😳🙄. And she’s not black she’s mixed race! It’s a shame that people see a mixed race person with a white mum and a black dad and that child is still classed as black. People are not educated enough to know the difference when it comes to skin colour
