This is another opinion video, what are thoughts on this? Are Prices Dropping? Is this Good or Bad for the AG Collecting Community? Don't Forget to Follow my Dolls' Instagram @just.dream.studios instagram.com/just.dream.studios And my Tiktok! www.tiktok.com/@just.dream.studios
Prices has been on the down for AG for awhile now.. EBay, Mercari etc. Some dolls still retain their value, but yes prices on the secondary market been dropped for at least a years now .
Since I am a buyer and not a seller, this is advantageous for me. I just like to collect and if I can get dolls cheaper then I will bless my lucky stars.
Thanks for the video. As a collector, I don't think eBay prices for AG dolls and accessories are necessarily dropping. I just think many collectors are looking for specific items or dolls that are complete and in good/great condition. For example, I don't buy random lots of AG stuff because I may already have (or don't want) what they include. I would rather pay more to get a complete historical outfit than a random lot of outfits. I find that buying pieces separately to complete an outfit can cost more than just buying it complete in the first place. Shipping charges are high on some of the examples shown, which doesn't make them such a good deal. Furthermore, that lot of barely dressed dolls wouldn't appeal to me because they are missing so many items, they would take up too much space, and they wouldn't really enhance my AG collection.
You can definitely find dolls for amazing prices if you don't mind searching and being patient. I also think it is highly dependent on the character. Getting a random truly me is easier to find for even 20 dollars rather than a retired historical or girl of the year. But I totally agree it is possible to find amazing deals on the second hand market. 🙂
That Samantha is probley are 1989 to 1991 version which is why the price is lower she looks like a latter one rather then an early one. My white body dolls are latter ones and I honestly don't care what year a white body is but a lot of collectors want an early one. ❤
As an eBay seller. I get lowered when I just want to go get rid of them. I think they are tired of not buying them. I hope this happens with Monster high.
I noticed last year at the thrift store the average price in Chicago (inside city) was $60.00. Now, the average is about $30.00 a doll. For me, since I am a buyer this is definitely a good thing, hallelujah!
60 dollars for a used dolls seems like a lot, especially if it less in demand dolls like certain truly me's or Girl of the Years. 30 dollars seems more reasonable...
I actively shop for dolls on ebay and a few other sites from Canada, I'm finding that the shipping prices are going up and up... and when you see a deal there is often an obviously inflated shipping cost attached, compared to even last year. I think it gets eyes on the item and they still end up making the same profit. That's my theory anyway.
Totally possible, but also I feel like shipping companies are generally charging more with fuel charges and inflation costs, it's really kind of a pain all around, regardless of the reason.
I feel like the reason prices are dropping is because of inflation and to go with that the fact that people are struggling with the important essentials like food and having somewhere to live. Life since the pandemic hasn't been luxury for anyone. I also think that and two kids aren't into these types of things really the way kids in earlier times where it's like the thing to do. American Girl I feel has also lost their way and that plays a part in things too. I think it's a blessing but also a bit saddening that the dolls and stuff is priced lower so that someone has the opportunity to buy the doll of their dreams or their very first doll potentially.
At least in the US we are also going through a recession, so people need to get rid of things for money fast and since no one can afford to buy expensive non-essentials that means low prices.
That is probably part of it. People willing to sell for low prices and people not buying will lower the prices as well. I think this theory is very likely!
Demand for used cyo seems to be increasing but demand for regular dolls seems to be decreasing its interesting. I do notice that more rare dolls do tend to hold their value but it's only the early white body dolls that go for a lot latter white body dolls such as 1989 to 1991 are usually a but cheaper almost a cheap as tan body but not as cheap.
I think it’s a good thing if prices are going down. As a collector and RU-vid creator, I am 3:01 buying more than selling. I will be looking for deals on historical outfits and AG doll clothes in general. AG Fashion week has inspired me to increase my dolls wardrobes! I would really love them to be more affordable for all of us. ☺️💕
I don't collect AG, but I still enjoy your content. I'm also in Canada and I checked the AG prices on eBay out of curiosity. Disney doll prices can be *insane* and I was expecting AG to be worse. AG was actually often notably cheaper
Yeah, Disney dolls are a whole different level of crazy. AG is still crazy, but it is a little bit more on my level of crazy. I guess I just love the chaos, LOL!
Also these dolls are huge maybe people like mysrlf don't have room. People tend to bid around when the listing is ending. I have gotten most of my ebay purchases this way.
I don’t think this is just you, I just saw another like 1987 Samantha white body doll for $250 (mind you, this doll was like in perfect condition) . If you guys know, 1987 Samanthas are SUPER expensive, so maybe this really is going on (this is good for us collectors…).
The last AG doll I got off eBay was my niece Bitty baby doll and I got her used in great condition for under $20. Then I found a Camille complete in original meet outfit At goodwill for $2.80. She is in An amazing condition.
I'm in some FB groups where AG sellers talk, and I've seen sellers talk about how hard it is right now to sell anything, even at good prices, let alone highly inflated costs. Between people generally slowing down on buying now that they can do things outside of their house and the economy being... rough... many people aren't willing to spend an arm and a leg. So prices are slowly but surely going back down.
I am whimpering I am trying desperately to unload a MIB Kaya only opened for display purposes with her Meet Accessories and her discontinued Hat and envelope thing. (Name escapes me) can’t give her away! Money nor trade.
